- Today we're talking about biters in graffiti and explaining how everyone knows when someone bites. This was a video I've wanted to put out for months and months and today we finally get to chat about the downsides of bitting and how you can actually learn in a much better way.

Great video! Very valid points💪💯 this battle is going to be something to watch and be a part of, I am looking forward to the entries, as I'm sure there going to be, something serious, so breakout the pens, markers , it's time to get dirty!💯💪🔥🤟🤟🤟👏
I'm excited to see what people throw our way
all the taggers out here where I live are toys
Hey Grim, unrelated to this but I finally got around to finishing that graff documentary where I used your clip (with your permission) from your History of Graffiti vid. Give it a look and let me know what you think!
I watched that good shit brother
thanks so much for the help!
That intro funny AF! 🤣 I'm proud of you, Grim!
Thank you for sharing this! Toy here in need of these tips.
Like Grim has said many times everyone starts as a toy that's part of the learning process that leads you to becoming better. It's OK to be toy as far as skill just don't be a toy doing disrespectful dumb stuff like going over others etc.. 🤙✌️
Don’t worry I’m a toy as well and some what proud of it. Learning is tough at times but it’s always worth it.
be critical but not so much that newcomers are afraid to try things. do whatever you guys want, art is free... and there is nothing new under the sun, so be inspired by whatever inspires you..
if we all followed " rules" wed never find anything new.... go break rules and practice your art.
i've been an overly critical artist my whole life, and never realized that was an artists' curse the whole time.
Great video
I've got problems with pieces which my name cuz I write rook and double o is a bit hard for a piece, throws are easier though, but was jus wondering what you would do for double o
How can i do a Throw up if my name is to big?
Oh man I’m happy to see the due date for the battle isn’t until June 19… been working on mine (little by little) for 4 days…I work like 60-65 hours a week
I'm definitely looking forward to see what you come up with🤟💯💪
that throwie inside the other throwie is too funny
I like the problem solving part more than fill, outlines, shading... thats why I usually do just pencil sketches and leave them like that. Also when I look at other peoples work I try to think of the composition, letter positioning... they used to then better solve problems in my name. Besides that sometimes I really like some of the aesthetics other people use. So my question is whether it is biting when I want to use the same fill effect, extension (the same shape of extension, not copying it exactly on the same place of the same letter) or letter terminal (I dont mean biting the whole letter, but using the same box ending, hope you understand what I mean)?
i'm that kind of person as well, and no it isn't really biting because fills are mostly just colors and simple patterns and lots of people use the same serifs all the time, using this or that type of arrow definitely wouldn't count.
a way i tell a toy is biting is if they suddenly become better than before, and when i ask them how, they just say “practice”. the suddenly im talking about is in a few hours, too.
Lol oh yeah that's a dead give away lol. People (even many experienced writers) act as if progress and development doesn't take time. Like you'll see some experienced writer pop out a new style from nowhere and you ask them how and they can't explain it, huge red flag lol
@@Theartistblock you actually responded to my comment yippee
You should make a discord server where people could help other people
There is an discord for this, graff help. But yeah it would be awesome to see mister grimm on a discord server like that mwuhaha
You should make a video showing sketches in ur old sketchbooks/blackbooks:D
Will you judge my one liner?
I can't get the k right but I love that it looks like a star
Do you think working with a certain typeface and then learning how to manipulate it is a good way to start? I’m very new to graffiti as an artist even though I’ve loved and appreciate it my whole life.
Yes absolutely study and break down basic font structure. Type your tag name in different fonts then practice redrawing them. It will definitely help
Hey its me again havent seen you ina while
You should make a video where you react to Tik tok graffiti, because most of it is cringe. Btw your vids are greate
Hey John, how do u suggest making graffiti more fun??? any thoughts or suggestions????
On point like always! I always appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience
✌️ DREK ONE EST. 1993

how is cap one a biter from the thumbnail
I never claimed he was the biter. If you watch the first 30 seconds you'd see someone bit him. Once again, never did i claim he was the biter, the title just says that biters need to watch this.
@@Theartistblock oh yea its can not cap
Literally everyone bites
And that's why I made this video, because that shouldn't be the case and it's exactly why it takes graffiti artists decades to learn the most basic of things.
@@TheartistblockI feel you… obviously copying is wack but isn’t biting different? If we didn’t bite then traditional graff wouldn’t exist and we would see nothing but anti style pieces.
@@NittyGritty420 not at all, that's what this whole video is about. There is zero need for biting. The issue comes in when most graffiti artists dont know a better way to learn, and this video explains that. By focusing on the core basics, the need for biting is not there. Biting tends to limit potential and tends to make people worse , not to mention it makes them take longer to learn simple things. Notice, no other professional artform teaches in this way UNLESS it's a structured and controlled master study. Even then, that's only a small part of the teaching.
@@Theartistblock I tend to agree: “bite” in your personal book just to learn the strokes, then twist the shapes around to suit your own liking/body mechanics. Then once you’ve learned the structure that works for/with you, bring it to display for others to see/enjoy.
