AC Black Flag absolutely deserves a remaster, and aside from graphical improvements it should also improve on combat and stealth, like giving us the ability to crouch.
The one thing I hated about this game is that u had to go to small islands just to get materials which can be annoying to get to upgrade your ship, and if u don't upgrade your ship, ship missions are really hard
also animation
honestly a remaster would be the perfect reason to replay this game for the 10th time because i never get tired of it's gameplay, it's so damn fun from start to finish and everything in between!
@@toyney the Patriots at 1 and the Bruins also at 1, the Celtics at 6, today is a great day in New England bro 💪
The combat can be improved by not being an insta kill but crouching isn't really necessary. Stealth is basic because you are a pirate running and gunning
One of my favorite games of all time. And one of my favorite stories I’ve experienced in a game. The ending gets me Everytime
That ending too. Wow
Except for the Tailing missions, Especially The Ship Tails.

True
💯
Black Flag and Rogue are my favorite games in the Assassin’s Creed series. Sailing around, collecting shanties, attacking ships, visiting all the different islands was a splendid experience.
I also like them and I think that Rogue is in some points even better than Black Flag. It needs more attention!
@@xxxplane12xxx6 It made some improvements gameplay-wise but it still falls a bit short as an overall game
@@-slice-6103 mostly due to it being shorter than most of the other games in the series. If it was more polished and had a longer story it would be far better than it is right now
@@theonly1rem Could’ve been. It could’ve been a top 5 story if it was 9-12 sequences and between 15-20 hours long. Environment should’ve been improved and not a reskin of Black Flag cuz Black Flag’s wildlife was a huge downgrade to AC3’s. Same with the combat, Black Flag took AC3’s combat and made it slower and simpler. Easier to play. But I can’t blame them because Unity and Rogue came out at the same time only a year after Black Flag

This may be my favorite of the original ac styled games. The world was huge...the story was good. And gameplay was fun. The Mayan outfit was op as hell, and it was awesome. And freedom cry was a GREAT dlc

I remember when I finally beat the game, I nearly teared in the end with Anne's Parting Glass and Edward 'seeing' his fallen comrades, truly an emotional moment there, and I will never forget sailing Jackdaw in the storm. The Carribean is always a fascinating place for me, which is a plus. Really glad that you pointed out the simliarties of the background between ACBF and RDR2, where both protagonists are outlaws surviving a era that did not want groups like them
It was so emotional to see all of Edwards dead comrades at the table it shows how much Edward has lost in the process of him becoming a better person , the ending with his daughter was really heart warming
Omg dude I was sobbing & I was rlly telling myself before playing ac bf that I wouldn’t like it and now it’s my favorite game lol
@@zero_snow4511 when I played it I was sort of at a down time really so that part just became more emotional
And about the same character development. Both starting off as douchbags and stubborn to get what they want, to wiser and respectful people as you lose the people you love around you and seeing the damage you've caused by being selfish.

So far i would strongly add this point that the combat system of ac 4 and ac3 especially with those brutal animations was just phenomenal
The combat system was just too easy in black flag
@Allosaurus 67 aye aye sir !
Unity combat system are still the best in the franchise to me, along with the parkour.
Currently paying this game again after 8 and a half years in 2022. Still one of best for me. I like how the older games allowed you to buy any gear you like without having to increase your level as long as you have enough money and/or resources. Also picking up enemy weapons make it a lot more realistic. Definitely worth buying in 2022!!
I just bought it for Xbox one s amazing game masterful
@@veljkotasic6065 jus got it I'm the trilogy bundle for $24. Stoked to play this again, after I wanna say 3-4 years. I remember this game when it came out it was awesome.
Hell yeah. Replaying this one at the moment. One of the most brilliant AC games out there.
Short answer: yes
Long answer: yesssssssssss
In all seriousness I think this is quite possibly my favourite AC game, and that is largely down to Edward, his character development over the story is second to none and I love seeing his journey from selfish greedy pirate to humbled assassin. The ship combat is fun for hours on end and the Caribbean is beautiful to explore. Is the game perfect, no, but I would say it’s pretty close, the modern day is somewhat lacking and yes the tailing was obnoxiously outdated by this stage in the series but I would still play this over almost any of the others. It is absolutely still worth buying and playing, the Kenway Saga (3, Black Flag and Rogue) is where Ubisoft should be looking for ideas going forward (although I maintain Unity is the perfect AC realisation and that is the exact model of what these games should be)
Unity could be a lot better...lack of story and arno character and very short game...
I remember being SO skeptical of this game because of the pirate theme seeing gimicky at the time. But I ended up getting it as my first PS4 game and I will never regret it. AC is usually always my new console game.
I imagine if ubisoft decided to make similar AC setting, with the new engine, but with the old combat and stealth mechanics, it would be really really fun exploring west indies jungles
I’ve played and finished this game like 7 times. For me it’s the most fun game of the series. Edward’s personality is just captivating, the open world is stunning and the naval combat and exploration is the most fun thing in the world. Especially the sea shanties. I don’t know if it’s the best assassins creed game, but it’s my favorite AC game
I sank so much time into Kenway’s Fleet, it’s a great incentive to seek out higher level ships on the overworld and has a decent strategy element to it that feels refined from mingames in previous entries. You don’t want to fill your fleet with all Man O Wars because you need smaller and faster ships to quickly finish off battles against less powerful enemies, and you get the in game currency as well.
Black Flag is probably the best jumping on point after the first game or II because Edward acts as a player surrogate in learning about the world of Assassins and Templars, and adds to the lore by introducing Sages. Little about the story ties back into the journeys of Altaïr, Ezio and Connor, so newbies don’t feel like there’s a lot of lore to catch up on from previous games yet there’s enough for seasoned fans to pick up on and in new ways such as Abstergo’s verdict on the marketability and how to market characters from previous games.
I remember having the black flag app that made it possible sending ships on missions when I wasn’t playing. New experience for me back then, thought it was really cool.
19 minutes! Nice! I really enjoy these longer videos from you - especially since I value your opinion, etc.
I'm on the Discord and I asked for this video! Tysm for making it!
Recently got back to playing this game, idk if it’s nostalgia or what but I’m having so much fun with it nowadays
Last year I started replaying the entire franchise (and bought Unity and Syndicate cheaply). AC finished 100% fast (ingame, not achievements), AC II was great as well, brotherhood + revelations and then remastered III were also great, but I got tired of playing AC after those (and I didn't go for 100% on all of them) so I took a break. Two weeks ago I started on Black Flag and Rogue back to back. Almost done with Rogue now. It is indeed much more enjoyable than it used to be (it already was enjoyable years ago), I think mostly because I'm now so much more familiar with the differences in movement and combat mechanics between installments and have a much better feel for the level design. I'm also taking the time to appreciate the story more, as a reward for finishing the menial parts. Next up are Unity and Syndicate (I'm skipping Liberation, I rly don't like the mechanics and story), then probably the chronicles and Origins (I've played and still play Odyssey NewGame+ times 30 or so from time to time, so skipping that also).
Yeah me too.
No matter the year...it will always be the best AC game of all time
100%

Hands down THE BEST assassins creed game imo. Dont get me wrong, I love AC1/the Ezio Trilogy/AC3, but Black Flag was and is my favorite entry in the series to date.
6:38 Edward didn't kill Vane, just knocked him you can see Vane in the prison mission
I always thought he killed him. Felt like it wasn’t the best presented when you are.. jumping down to assassinate him
Yeah he didn’t die, he was in the prison cell, gone mad and all
yeah true, Edward didn't necessarily kill Vane but he did end up in a prison and its alluded that he was waiting to be hanged for piracy. It's too bad, I loved Vane's character, he was one of the few pirates that remained a "true" pirate, all the way up to the end
@@davidbeer5015 there was this side objective to get 100 percent sync is that to not use blade while air assassination that already gave me the idea that he is not dead
Huh. I don’t remember that optional objective detail. I remember air Assassinate, but not without the hidden blades.
Never clicked so fast. IMO this is peak assassins creed
The music is also badass and entertaining. I never thought a game could make me want to listen to drunken shanties on the open seas. Just, good vibes.
Man I remember replaying this game about a year back for the first time in awhile and I was so invested in Edward and his story. It’s so tragic to see all of Edwards comrades fall due to his selfishness. I always find myself invested in the characters in this game. It’s very uplifting watching him morph into a better person by the end of the game. Watching that scene with all his dead comrades sitting at the table had me tearing up. This is my favorite assassin’s creed overall. My favorite feature of the game was the shanties. Something about sailing the open sea while your crew sings is just so amazing. I would totally recommend this game it’s an overall fun and emotional story with fun gameplay.
Woah the intro music gave me such a big nostalgia hit
This was my second to last platinum of 2021! It really surprised me, especially after binge playing 2-3 in the months prior. Didn’t quite beat Revelations for me, but I enjoyed it more than all the others I’ve played so far.

This one is just one of my favorites of all time. The ship combat and sailing are what makes it so great, and the first person hacking is another cool feature. Edwards story is really fun and equally dramatic. I love how ubisoft took the same pirates of the caribbean story and made it fun again
O want to get this game for my birthday, and this video solidified it on my wishlist.
This guys content is so much better than what his numbers reflect. Deserves more recognition.
An interesting note about the Jackdaw.
So as you all know, its a Brig, a 2 mast sail with a large gaff on its mizzenmast (The triangle-like sail that moves around in the back, in other words.)
In the real world, Brigs are mostly used as quick and easy transporters before the Clipper became a thing. But in many cases, it was used in the navy as well, fitted with at most over 20 guns.
Yet, as i counted all the cannon ports on the Jackdaw, it could hold over 46 cannons, give or take. Ships with that cannon load are typically classified as Frigates or Corvettes.
So... why is the Jackdaw a brig and not a frigate? Well, typically a ship is classified by its rigging and sail layout and mast count. Think of it as judging what a car is by its engine, and not its chassis. Equally, to judge a ship by its gun count is giving it a rating. Like a Man 'o War, the big block of wood with a hundred guns on it. They're rated as "First Rate Ship of the Lines" which are essentially the equivalent to judging a gun by its calibre. Based on that title, you can gather that a Man 'o War would be at the head of a battle line, which was typical of naval warfare back in the age of sail. 2nd Rates being behind the 1st rates, so on and so forth. But with a gun count of 46 or so, the Jackdaw's technically a 4th rate. A 4th rate, which realistically would be dominated by frigates and smaller versions of the HMS Victory, imagine seeing a brig in that line.
Quite impressive, strange, and interesting, innit?
(The rating system is based on the Royal Navy, i don't know about the other countries' ratings for their military ships.)
This is one of those games where you can tell Ubisoft actually put so much love and care into it unlike the newer games
I think the newer games got too much love, they're too big! I love them as gorgeous games, but Valhalla and Odyssey don't really fit into the story very well. I still think they're fantastic, but yeah Black flag was legendary
@@EnderDBD big doesn't mean love, they Just fill the game with random content and big maps so people spend more time playing
@@keyman245 I disagree, they are bug-free, insanely detailed, clearly they got a ton of love. The problem people have with them (and I agree) is that they feel more like an incredible open-world than an Assassins creed game

I've heard such great things about this particular game over the years I literally just bought the Gold edition just a minute ago and came in here to look at the review and yours is the 💯first one that I saw
This game introduced me to that inhumanly beautiful song “the parting glass”. I straight up get a little teary every time I see/hear that ending
2013 was a good year for games but I remember as a kid being crazy excited about this one I watched constant videos and once I got my hands on it it gave me a feeling I haven’t felt for a game until today I’ve got the gold edition on my Ps5 and am playing once again. I think it would be a great game to remaster but they prob won’t lol
The novelisation goes into a lot more depth for Edward’s backstory and how he got to that naval battle and encounter with Duncan Walpole (Duncan’s own journey to that point is fleshed out in the novelisation of the 2016 film), including his relationship with Caroline. It also shows what happens when Edward returns to England with Jennifer, setting up how he gets to where he is in Haytham’s own backstory as depicted through Haytham’s journals in Forsaken. The novelisation is framed as an account by Edward for Jennifer, so there’s plenty of hindsight observation on his character and decisions, such as admonishing his earlier impression for dismissing the blood cube as a mere ornament upon finding it in Walpole’s things.
It’s such a fun game. I need to go back and play this game along with the others. Edward does grow and I love his journey. Great video. I look forward to a that ranking video. I’m very curious
Definitely enjoyed the main story as well as the side assassin's contracts, naval contracts with the overall high/under seas adventures here and there.
I could do without the modern day computer hacking bit with its own puzzle contents.
My girlfriend loved the "frogger" puzzles back in the day, so I would just hand her the controller when those bits came up. So, it was a win-win!
Nothing brings me to tears faster than the ending song for AC4. All of them sitting at the table. Honestly felt like the ending of the good Assassin Creed mainline games. Rogue was spectacular and Origins also had its highlights. But front to back from Voice acting to mechanics will never be topped by Assassin's Creed 4.

Wtf?!?
Absolutely yes! I don't even need to watch the video (but I will). This is easily one of the best games in the franchise second only to the ezio trilogy. Not even in the ways that most people think. The characters and story are masterfully done and they handle the creed and conflict between assassins and templars so well. Better in a pirate game than in the following assassin games
