Lake District Country Walk Legburthwaite Thirlmere Reservoir to Swirls Car Park round

- Our video is a guided circular walk in the Lake District. Starting from Legburthwaite Car Park in St John’s in the Vale at the northern end of Thirlmere Reservoir we walk to the head of the reservoir then along its shore to Dale Head Hall Hotel. We then continue to Swirls Car Park crossing over the main A591 and return on the other side along the lower slopes of Raise. This is an easy to moderate walk on grass/gravel paths and tracks with some minor tarmac road. There some inclines and declines, gates and stiles.
Elevation: approx lowest point 159m (523ft) approx highest point 295m (967ft) approx ascent 236m (775ft).
Approx 4.6 miles allow 2 to 3 hours using OS Explorer Map OL5, The English Lakes, North-eastern area. This walk is done anti-clockwise.
Start point: Legburthwaite Pay and Display Car Park or can be started from Swirls Pay and Display Car Park. If you are staying at Dale Head Hall Hotel the walk can be started from there too.

Hi Andrea, we were asked last November by the owners of the hotel if we would film a walk in the area around Thirlmere showing the best their fabulous hotel. This was the first time we have ever walked by it and as you can see the setting is absolutely stunning overlooking the lake. You wouldn't know it was there from the road which was only a couple of hundred yards away. As usual we kept a low profile we were in and did our bit of filming then was off within a few minutes, they didn't know we had been. When we uploaded the film on the website they were delighted with what we had done and so were we. It's not often you can produce such fabulous footage of all different things on one video. The mass of bluebells where the two ladies were sat was incredible another few weeks and they would of been gone. The weather held out so we decided to start from the same car park the next day this time walking some height. As we walked up High Rigg we could see the devastation of the 100 mile an hour winds that had blown a lot of big trees over a few weeks earlier but this didn't take away the beauty of the area as you will soon see when we finish editing. Hi Sonne, when the sun is shining its hard to believe there's many places like the Lake District. The views from the lawn from the hotel were amazing, some walks just seem to flow and this was one of them. Fabulous wildlife and landscapes every few yards. We were very lucky its hard to describe and capture the real beauty and sheer volume of the bluebells near Swirls car park. Amazing all the best The Taxi Driver

Hi colm one, we had a wonderful day. As you turn off the A66 heading towards Wordsworth's Grasmere it is so easy to overlook and drive straight by Thirlmere. We must admit we are guilty of that ourselves but we hope with this walk and the next one that we are putting things right and we certainly intend to come back and do some more walks in this fabulous area. So picturesque 😀 can you walk the whole way round or is there bad lot of road walk . I think I tried it 30/years ago and ended up on road and walking through rough bracken , think I may have gone wrong looking at your video 😀👍
