    Today we get into adding some recovery capability to the Budget Overland LR4. Together with a Harbor Freight winch plate we do a little fabrication to install our X-Bull Winch. A very budget friendly setup at the cost of just a Terrafrima winch plate for the whole setup including the winch itself.

    I love the zonkey humor and the fact that it masks a skilled, competent craftsman. I see a younger me in you but I had less direction or might I say my direction was old equipment not Rovers. Like you I am a jack of all trades master of none kinda guy and that has served me well being a road composite, then working CMO, mechanic for the railroad.
    The technical abilities that you have are somewhat lost on some of the audience of youtubeville but they are there and shine to the ones that know and understand, as the beautiful bacon frying sound testifies... :)
    Again thank you for the ride along and my vicariously living shop life again through you videos sir.

    Nice work! I have my stock fuji white LR4 front and rear bumpers in my garage if you ever need one. I don't think I would ever need them now that I have my Tactical 4x4 rear and ARB Summit up front.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety

      Appreciate that. I may see if you want to sell the bumpers at some point. I want to cut into one for a tube/plate bumper along the lines of how most of the late model 4Runner bumpers are done. Essentially keep the painted parts and replace the textured black with tube and plate.

      I don’t think there is a way to put a winch on the front of anything that doesn’t block some of the coolers up front. The bulk of the winch is hidden behind the plastic bumper cover and not covering the grilles. But either way I towed another LR4 750 miles with it this summer in 90-100 degree weather and it didn’t creep any of the temps.

    Nice install. It certainly will suit jurisdictions that don't permit Bull-Bars ( don't know why Americans call Bull-Bars "bumpers", that is what factory units are called). Mt personal preference is to have a Bull-Bar, I like my ARB Winch Bar. All steel goodness!! I bought mine second hand, it had the factory fog lights and headlight washers installed. The only extra I installed was the winch.
    I really would like rock sliders - It would be great to see how you make them & install them. I suspect what you build for an LR4 would fit perfectly on an LR3??

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety

      Bull bars here, I guess they would be kangaroo katchers in something like Australia.
      Rock sliders will be soon and should interchange between the two.

      I was going to keep an eye on temps this summer when it gets warm, if there is any issues I am just going to move it behind the right side headlamp. There is some room between the headlamp and air filter housing to make a bracket up and put it there. Just have to extend the wiring to the winch itself is all.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      @@LostCauseRanch ohhhhh it’s not the cadence of the engine right!? I ask because my LR4 sounds like that and a mechanic asked me if it was diesel before lol

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      Had to say without hearing them in person, they are naturally louder because of the direct injection (injector setup is louder along with cam driven fuel pumps). So they do sound somewhat like a diesel because of that. This one has the loose rattle of a bad timing chain along with codes in the ecm related to camshaft timing.
