    Here is the start of a simple budget build on an LR4 I'll use personally. Today we get some Proud Rhino 2.5" lift rods installed along with a set of 18" steel wheels and 275/65R18 General Grabber ATx Tires to make it a little more capable off the beaten path. I chose this particular LR4 because of it's options, equipped with HD package (Rear Locking Differential), Vision Assist (Auto Brights, Surround Cameras). The rear locking differential was kind of a requirement for me.
    I have the Rough Country ready to go in the back, we are going to be building a simple slide out kitchen in the back and that will be the next video on this little overland build of the LR4. We will have a portable sink with pressurized water, stove and some other neat features.
    After that the roof rack will be built and we will get that Rough Country Tent on the top of this thing.

    Great channel and content. I just put on the same wheels from Lucky8 with Proud Rhino 2.5" rods with Kenda Klever AT tires in 275/65/18, and the Lr4 looks much beefier. I'm still having trouble with rubbing mostly on the front lower part of the fender where that little black end cap is. Getting a full alignment tomorrow and see if that helps. Any video about trimming would be much appreciated. Once again, great content, and I love this channel. Great job!!

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +7

      Thanks for the kind words. The alignment usually helps some on the rubbing of the front plastic pieces but depending on wheel offset and exact tires we have almost always still had to trim some. We usually clearance the frame horn/crash boxes on the rear of the wheels and the lower flare/plastic up front as needed. I'll get a video up at some point of where we trim.

    Hey there, I have a 2006 LR 3 with HD package. 230,000+ miles on it. I like your work- the truck looks great. Have you checked to see whether the truck bottoms out on the bump-stops before the tires hit the wheel wells? Also there is a setting for adjusting the tire diameter to synchronize with the speedometer using an OBDII programing tool.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      You would need something like the Lucky8 sya kit to ensure mobility with it aired out. Haven’t had this one bottomed out but all the other ones we have with the same setup would rub and pop flares off bottomed out with the bigger tire and lower offset wheel. For the tire size compensation you would need something like the iid gap tool.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety

      Good question. These were far enough out that they wouldn’t have been happy just static balancing on just the inside lip. You could do tape weights on the back side of the face of the wheel if you wanted to. I think there is enough clearance with the caliper if I remember correctly. On anything aluminum we always use tape weights.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      I can do one on it sometime on what we clearance. On the failure part of it, the trimming the frame horns and plastic doesn’t really save you from that. Lucky8 have a sya kit that is essentially extended mounts for the struts that prevents it from lowering too low to drive if the eas fails.

      The kit from Lucky8/Terrafirma does not come with locking lug nuts but you should be able to source some that work for it. Are you located in a high wheel theft area? Typically we found that locking lugs don’t slow down the professional wheel thieves. They have ways around it.

      They are Terrafirma Steel Wheels with the 30mm spacers to clear the LR4 brakes. I really like the LR4's. In the world of Land Rover/Range Rover they feel to me as pretty reliable. On the SCV6 I would just make sure you don't let it overheat, you should be fine on the common timing chain problem the earlier V8s had as long as it was well serviced.

    • @LostCauseRanch

      Front frame horns will have to be cut. I haven’t done it in this one yet, but any Lr3/Lr4 we have put 265s or 275s on has needed them cut. It is even worse with the spacers or lower offset wheels. For instance the Lr3 that the steel wheels came off of with the 265s also needed the little frame crash boxes cut as well. The rear has been a more case by case issue for us on whether it needed to be addressed. We have had some that have rubbed on normal street driving and some that haven’t really rubbed much under some good flex. Thanks for watching!

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před rokem +1

      It does put some extra leverage on certain parts. So you may see some need to replace ball joints/control arm bushings/wheel bearings at a little faster rate than factory. But that is oversized tires and lower offset wheels in general. It’s hard to say at how much of a quicker rate those will wear at, but having bigger tires further out does put some additional load on those components.

    How dependable is air suspension on LR4 ?

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      In the world of air suspension they have been pretty good. The early ones are starting to get to the age that they will start seeing more problems. Compressor problems are typically the fault of not fixing a leak in the system and overrunning the compressor. Most air suspension struts start seeing leakage at over 100k or 10 years. But at that age most struts/shocks in coil sprung cars are tires too.

    What is more reliable lr3 or lr4?

      Generally speaking in my experience the LR3 has been more reliable. But I really do like the extra power the LR4 has. Still keep this one as my daily.

      @@2Ajosh A clean/well maintained LR3 can make a good rig. Have had a couple customers with right around 300k miles on theirs.

    Those spacers are going to exacerbate the wear on your wheel bearings. Additionally, if your air suspension takes a hit, you’re gonna be stuck on the rubber when she goes down.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +2

      The steel wheels require the spacers to clear the brake calipers on the LR4. It will probably end up with a Lucky8 SYA kit for the suspension if we ever take it somewhere extra remote.

    Lr3 vs lr4??

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +2

      I prefer LR4. Just. Touch more refined inside and I like the extra power of the 5.0. But the LR3 is a pretty good workhorse and doesn’t suffer from as many shortcomings in the engine department.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 2 lety +1

      Outside of just doing timing chains on it, it hasn’t skipped a beat. I like these things as long as you are aware you are going to eventually have a big bill for timing stuff.

    Why use wheel spacers?

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před rokem +1

      The steel wheels will not clear the brake calipers on the LR4 without them. They will clear the LR3 brakes without spacers though.

      @@artcole80 Can’t run the steal wheels on an LR4 without the spacers. They are needed to clear the brakes, you can get by without them on a LR3 though.

      They typically do. The lower offset just makes it a little worse.
