All 3 of these computers are very fast and will perform exceptionally well for anyone wanting to purchase a new general purpose computer. They are not intended to be upgraded to a full fledged gaming machine because these PCs will not accept (or fit) a high-powered graphics card.

i currently have the lenova yoga. 10 years old. but it seems to have the specs that are good, but it is so slow now that i can only see the first 4 letters i typed as i am typing this part. Intel i7, 16GB Ram, 256 HD [not SD]...that last part seems to be my only physical problem
Hi! The biggest slowdown your 10-year old Lenova Yoga laptop has is the *mechanical* hard drive. If you pull up the Windows Task Manager [Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete, select Task manager and then click on the Performance tab], you'll find that the chart for the hard drive (Disk 0 C:) is probably maxed out at 100% most of the time. That doesn't happen with a SSD drive. Also, the 10-year old i7 processors are not particularly fast either, especially if it was one of the power efficient models. The CPUBenchmark.Net ratings for the Intel i7-3520M and i7-3667U processors are both under 2,900 which is pretty slow.
You could do a few things to speed up the laptop like: Upgrade to a SSD drive, run the Windows "Disk Cleanup" program to eliminate unnecessary files, run the Windows "Defragment and Optimize Drives" program to defrag the C: drive if it needs it, eliminate unnecessary programs from running at Start Up, or run some clean-up/tune-up programs like I show in my video here: czcams.com/video/cQEw4mLvIsA/video.html

I sometime buy those for my customers and then upgrade it to a 1TB or 2TB SSD drive to make it the "complete package".

@@JasonBagnell there is an office max /depot in my town, no Best Buy’s. Any good ones there? I want to go there today and see. Walmart has a laptop that has the same specs as mine except it has a 1 TB SD and all for $699 I think. I took a pic and just posted to my IG, but I can also post to my community tab if you want to look at it. I am 54 so I’m used to my prejudice that desktops are better than laptops. Is that still true?

I'm in the market today for a new computer. I love your reviews and help thanks!! Question: what do you think of the lenovo Idea Centre mini desktop? I can't decide on a desktop or laptop. I have a 2016 dell laptop I connect to a monitor now. Its still running great but I know its slowing down.

Hi Melinda! I just checked out the Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini Desktop computer (90W20000UT). Lenovo (direct) sells it for $688.19 while Best Buy is selling the same model for $849.99, so order directly from Lenovo to take advantage of the sale.
I looked up it's Intel i7-13700H processor on CPUBenchmark.net and found that it had a GREAT speed rating of 28,718. You're also getting a 1TB SSD drive and 16GB of memory/RAM, so this seems to be a lot of power and performance for the money at $688.19. Here is a link to what I found on Lenovo's website:

-- If you don't need the portability of a laptop -- this would be a powerful (and tiny) computer for the money. Just plug in a HDMI or Display Port capable monitor and you're good to go. The page states "keyboard and mouse sold separately" so make sure you have (or order) those as well.

As for antivirus software, in the past I have recommend Norton's antivirus products (over McAfee) but recently they all seem to keep popping up and bugging their users frequently, trying to get them to purchase an upgrade to a higher level for features that no one really needs. If your Windows 10/11 PC does not have an antivirus program installed, "Windows Defender" automatically activates to keep the computer protected. The last time I looked up performance reviews of the top 20 antivirus programs, Windows Defender (the one that comes with Windows) ranked in the middle, which means that it provides better protection than 1/2 of the paid programs (and worse protection than the top 1/2 of the paid programs).
I just read a review from July 2023 that recommended Bit Defender Antivirus Plus as a good choice. The article stated "Bitdefender Antivirus Plus is our top choice among entry-level antivirus products. It has very good, if not perfect, malware-detection scores." Here's an important thing to know: If your PC came with an Antivirus program and the trial period has expired, make sure you uninstall the program, which will cause the Windows Defender program to take over protecting the computer. If you don't, the expired program will no long get antivirus definition updates and your computer will become increasingly more vulnerable as time goes by.

@@JasonBagnell thanks. I posted the pic to my community tab of the Walmart computer: the best they had. Even their $1299 computers were not as good: they were just pretty with lights and stuff that would attract kids. I want a work horse.
