      @@az21bob666 The Intel i7-8700 is a fast processor so if I were in your situation I would go ahead and purchase and install an up-to-date video card (NVidia, AMD) into your current computer. That will eliminate the bottleneck where your current video card is slowing the performance of your games. If you end up buying a new PC in the future, you can always move the new video card to it.

      @az21bob666 I did some research for you and I think you best bet would be to buy a used AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card. I found a bunch on EBay for under $160. According to the www.videocardbenchmark.net website, it will perform 16x faster than your current Radeon 520 graphics card.
      You can search EBay.com for: "amd rx 5600 xt". Make sure you read the full description of the product (so you don't end up buying a "parts only" broken one) and only buy from someone who has a good EBay rating. !!*** Most import though is to make sure you PC has room for a full sized graphics card and make sure your power supply has the appropriate power connectors available. ***!! The smaller store bought PCs might not have either.

    That was very helpful, thank you. I appreciate the way you cut right to the chase and tell people what to look for, what the basic specs you need are, and how to shop.
    I particularly appreciated the advice to just stick to intel processors and to filter results by "available in store." When I've gone online to shop in the past, I've been overwhelmed by the hundreds of computers available, not to mention all the specs to sort through. Too many choices! Paralysis of analysis! But you simplified the process considerably.
    I also appreciate the tip about the discount prices being essentially meaningless (i.e., not a reflection of quality).
    With your help, I was able to pick a computer out in less than an hour. Thank you again for your very straightforward and clear explanation of the process.

    Can you connect the tower computer on any Monitor brand?

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, the brand of the monitor does not matter. Just make sure that the video output on the computer matches the input type on the monitor. For example, if the computer has a HDMI monitor output port, make sure the monitor connect it to has an HDMI input. If not, you can get away with buying a cable that is HDMI on one end and Display Port on the other end, or a cable that has HDMI on one end and DVI on the other end. Just know that if you use the DVI-to-HDMI cable, sound will not be sent through the cable (in case your monitor has built in speakers). I hope this helps! Cheers -- Jason

But people like myself, who are in their 80's and still do a lot computer work, there really needs to be more explanations as to what is what and how to judge it. You helped a great deal on the processor benchmark. I have several printers, and 3 plotters (no they are not used at the same time) however, the software that it takes to run them, and my two Cutters, (Silhouette, and Curio 2) you need a 2.5 Ghz. Hi! Lenovo has an $899.99 "Gaming" computer that is powerful and also has an advanced graphic card installed. The PC has outputs for (1) HDMI and (3) DisplayPort monitors. You can use a simple DP-to-HDMI cable or DP-to-DVI cables from Amazon to allow non-DisplayPort monitors to be connected to the additional DisplayPort outputs. The i5-13400F processor is a real power house and it outperforms my 4 year old Intel i9-9900K processor. 16GB of memory is great and the PC also comes with a SSD drive too. The pictures do NOT show the nVidia GeForce 3050 outputs on the back of the case but those ports will be there when you receive the computer. See: www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-loq-tower-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i5-13400f-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3050-8gb-lhr-512gb-ssd-ravel-black/6558741.p?skuId=6558741 ... or search BestBuy.com for: 6558741

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před rokem +1

      Hi Thomas, thanks so much for your kind words! Because you want to use video editing programs, the cheaper sub-$800 PCs are out because of the case size and power supply limits. If you're looking to buy a pre-built PC from a major manufacturer, you will need to purchase the company's "Gaming" line to get one with a bigger power supply and room for a great graphics card. I just found a great price on Dell Alienware PC for $1,199.99 (supposedly $750 off) that has an Intel i7-12700F CPU, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT video card and a 512GB SSD. You would want to increase the SSD to at least 1TB and upgrade to 32GB RAM (or do that later) to have a good video editing PC. Check it out at the following URL: www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gaming-and-games/alienware-aurora-r13-gaming-desktop/spd/alienware-aurora-r13-desktop/wdr13aur202soh
      I looked up it's i7-12700F CPU on CPUBenchmark.Net and found that it is 68% *FASTER* than the i9-9900K chip that I'm using now. Holy cow!!!
      I hope this helps!

    Good video. I was wondering if the newer SSDs were reliable. Good to know.
    I thought you were going to suggest a smaller SSD, and simply buy and install an additional 1TB HDD. If they're advertised as having additional slots, is the power supply still limited to only what's installed? I never thought about reading the power supply specs when considering adding components.

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! Yes, I've found the Samsung SSDs to be very reliable, so when given a choice, I go with Samsung. As far as having a small boot drive, you can always add a mechanical hard drive for extra (slow) storage but you definately don't want to keep running out of room on the PC's C: drive. It would be almost useless to buy a Windows based computer with only 128GB. It would only hold the operating system and a few programs and it would begin to fill up quickly as Windows Updates came in over time.
      About the power supply -- The cheaper store bought PCs usually have a proprietary or small power supply that can't be upgraded to a more powerful model. The cases on the cheaper store bought PCs are usually are too small to fit a full-sized graphics card (like the NVidia RTX-3080/3090, etc). Aside from not having room to fit an advanced graphics card, you won't have to power connectors you need either.
      Even though the cheaper store bought computer are somewhat limited, if you're not gaming, you can get A LOT of power for the money you pay. Make sure to buy a newer one that has an Intel 12th generation or 13th generation CPU. Intel's 12th and 13th generation CPUs leave my 9th gen i9-9900K CPU in the dust. I would consider buying or building myself a new computer that has an Intel i5-13600K CPU because it would perform 2 times faster than my older i9. The new chips are amazingly fast!
      Cheers -- Jason -- Please consider subscribing to my channel if you haven't. You would be subscriber #700 :)

      It sounds like your old PC needs a new power supply. They are usually $50 or less. You can also open the PC's case and try removing and reinstalling the memory modules, graphics card, etc. Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the inside and from the fans. Also blow out any dust that might be INSIDE the power supply. Don't spend too much money fixing your old PC because it is very slow by today's standards. As for a new computer, I've been super busy and don't have any recommendations for you at this moment but if I find something soon I will reply back to this comment. What is your budget for the new computer? Thanks -- Jason

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi! If you find a good deal on a powerful computer directly from the manufacturer, it would be fine to order directly from them. The retail stores do a pretty good job of keeping a handful of the better-selling PCs in stock and you don't need to wait for them to ship the PC to your location. Use the concepts from this video to guide you in figuring out what to buy. The current Intel CPUs are now in the 13th and 14th generation, so look for a PC whose processor model number starts with 13xxx or 14xxx. Thanks -- Jason

      Hi! The fastest, most affordable (on sale for $250 off today) PC I can find right now is this "Dell Inspiron 3020S Small Desktop PC" that has a fast i5-13400 processor, 8GB of Memory, a 512GB SSD drive and Windows 11 Home. It also has a 5-in-One Media Card Reader. It is being sold at OfficeDepot.com for $449.99 until 5/25/2024. See: www.officedepot.com/a/products/8855342/Dell-Inspiron-3020S-Small-Desktop-PC The only shortcoming it has for you is that the PC only has 0.5TB of hard drive space. It does have an empty 3.5" SATA hard drive bay so you could pay Office Depot's tech team to add a 4GB mechanical hard drive to increase it's capacity. I have sold several of these PCs to my customers and I love how much power/performance you get for the money. Note: It has one DisplayPort and one HDMI port that allows you to connect up to two monitors to the PC. It does NOT have a VGA port, so make sure your current monitor supports HDMI or DisplayPort connections. Just something to consider! Cheers -- Jason :)

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před 7 měsíci

      I looked up pictures of both PCs on EBay. The Dell Inspiron 570 Desktop PC has VGA and HDMI monitor ports. The Dell Optiplex 3020 has VGA and DisplayPort monitor ports. So, if you monitor is currently using a VGA cable it will work fine on either computer. If your monitor only supports HDMI, you will need to buy a DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable, from Amazon, OfficeDepot.com, etc for it to work on the Dll Optiplex 3020 computer.. I hope this helps! You can go to Google.com and search for "VGA Cable" or "HDMI Cable" to see what each of these looks like. The VGA cable has 3-row of tiny pins for a total of 15 pins.

      I think a HP PC with those specifications would serve you well! The 13th generation Intel processor is the latest and you would be in great shape for the future. 16GB of memory is ideal too. The CPUBenchmark.net sped rating for the processor is 25,278 which is faster than my older i9 PC. Because you aren’t storing much, the 512Gb SSD drive would be fine

      Hi! Here's a very powerful yet affordable PC I came across this morning on OfficeDepot's website: www.officedepot.com/a/products/7812249/Lenovo-IdeaCentre-5i-Desktop-PC-Intel/ It is on sale right now for $270.00 off until 11/11/2023. $679.99 - It has a very fast Intel i7 processor, 16GB of memory and a 512GB Solid State drive. It also has HDMI and VGA monitor outputs so you can connect two monitors for a dual display experience. Just make sure that one of the monitors supports VGA if you are going to connect two. Cheers -- Jason

      Hi! The Dell Precision 5470 laptops are built with Engineering and CAD in mind. They are very configurable and you can order one with a nVidia RTX A1000 GPU for approved AutoCAD graphics compatability. Choose 32 or 64GB of RAM and a 12th or 13th generation i7 CPU and you will be set for years! Here’s a link to Dell’s website:

    Good evening sir, Great video, thank you. I am a pastor. I got an Hp 34 monitor, what specification of tower can I buy to do a live streaming for the church. I need something fast, and storage of videos and Pictures. What can I buy ?

      Hi! I just found a great desktop tower PC for your application. Here is a link to it on BestBuy's Website:
      www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideacentre-gaming-5i-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i5-12400f-16gb-memory-nvidia-rtx-3050-512gb-ssd-raven-black/6535023.p?skuId=6535023
      I like this PC because it is under $900 and comes with a dedicated NVidia Graphics Card (instead of using a lower powered intergrated GPU). It has 16GB of memory and has a 512GB m.2 SSD drive which is very fast. The CPU is a 12th Generation i5-12400F which is actually faster than the 3 year old Intel i9-9900K computer I use for my 4K video editing. I've configured one of these PCs before and my customer was very happy with it. For monitor outputs, it has (1) HDMI 2.0 port and (1) DisplayPort 1.4 port and will run your nice 34" HP monitor well.
      I hope this helps. Cheers! -- Jason

      Hi again! I made a video on how to easily "secure erase" a Windows (8 or later) PC so you can sell it, donate it or dispose of it without worrying about your personal data getting getting into the wrong hands. See: czcams.com/video/zW2v3M_xFVY/video.html

    Is 240 pound budget good enough?

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi! That's about $300 in USD. In the USA, there is a used computer store near me called "Refresh Computers". I looked at their inventory and found that they do have a few PCs available at that price point that support running (or come with) Windows 11 pre-installed. It is important to NOT spend money on a PC that doesn't support Windows 11 because Microsoft has stated that Windows 10 will no longer be supported towards the end of 2025.
      That being said, you should be shopping for a PC that has an Intel 8th generation CPU or NEWER so it will be able to run Windows 11. You should choose a PC with at least 8GB of memory/RAM and you'll want one that has a SSD drive (and NOT a mechanical hard drive). Here's one used example from my local computer store: $289.99, Intel i7-8700, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro: refreshcomputers.net/shop/product/dell-optiplex-7060-sff-i7-8700-3-2ghz-8gb-512gb-ssd-nvme-windows-11-pro/
      And another example: $309.99 - Intel i5-9500 CPU, 16GB Memory/RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro: refreshcomputers.net/shop/product/dell-optiplex-3070-mt-tower-core-i5-9500-3-0ghz-4-4ghz-16gb-512gb-ssd-windows-11-pro/
      It looks like there are some good used PCs out there at your price point so search EBay or the local computer stores for a PC that has similar specifications: SSD drive, 8+ GB of memory, 8th generation or newer Intel processor.
      Good luck on your search! Cheers -- Jason :)

      Hi Lisandra -- I took a quick look at Office Depot and Best Buy's website and found a Dell Inspiron 3020 for $799.99 that has a SUPER FAST 13th generation Intel i7 processor, 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. You can connect 2 monitors to it (HDMI, Display Port) but it does not come with a monitor. It does come with a no-frills keyboard and mouse. It has WiFi 6 support, and also has a gigabit ethernet/network port. It's CPU/Processor is twice as fast as my Intel i9-9900K video editing rig! You will be happy with this computer for a LONG time! This PC is considered a "Business Computer" and will work impressively well but you can't ever turn it into a gaming PC due to size and power supply limitations. For accounting work, it would be a MONSTER!! :)

    3d? Brand i 8:23 importance?

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell  Před 3 měsíci

      My customers usually end up with a Dell, HP or Lenovo PC or laptop. Asus is also another good manufacturer. Everyone has their own opinion but those brands are the ones that I end up working on. It might be that those companies provide the retail stores with fairly powerful computers at lower prices, which makes the consumers buy lots of them, which makes the stores quickly restock their shelves.
      These days most of the computer's electronics are integrated onto the motherboard. The major manufacturers tend to design their own proprietary motherboard and cases that are designed to integrate with each other. Then they use industry standard parts for the rest. Meaning, the memory, hard drive, video card, etc. are obtained for other companies like Micron, Seagate, Western Digital, nVidia, etc. The manufacturers know that they need to do a good job building their PCs and choosing good hardware because they will have to support hundreds of thousands of them once the PCs hit the market. The manufacturers spend a lot of time testing their PC configurations before they hit the market for that reason, and those PCs tend to be very reliable.
      Because most people want to buy a computer that is fast as possible for a price that is low as possible, most of the pre-built PCs that sell for under $1,000 will work perfectly if you leave them in their stock configuration. They have a very low wattage power supply that is also very small in size. It is exactly the right size/power to run the PC in it's stock configuration but if you want to install a powerful video card or change the i3 CPU to a powerful i9-K series CPU, the power supply will be insufficient and you won't be able to install a more powerful power supply into the computer because it won't fit in the PC's case. Anyone one wants to upgrade their PC over time should purchase a "gaming PC" that allows you to easily replace the Power Supply and Motherboard. Otherwise, the pre-built cheaper off-the-shelf PCs are perfectly fine.

    Ok good video right there but you changed the name so more people would click on it this was made in 2022-2023 it's 2 years old you are not slick

      You’re right, I had pulled the date off of the thumbnail image but left it in the title, so I just removed it. CZcams took over 500 days to give the video it’s first 500 views and then they started sending viewers to it like crazy. Even though the Intel CPUs have reached newer generations, the concepts presented still remain valid. Thanks for your comment. - Jason
