    Holy crap--I am going to re watch this again. ALL this time I have been blabbing about how sugar turns to fat. Ted is truly brilliant. I have had his e-book since it came out. His approach is just brilliant and of course yours is exactly like that also. I am gradually reducing my fat grams now and have started to actually track them. When I started increasing protein and dropping fat I was much more hungry. That tells me I likely was eating WAY too much fat before. I got sucked into "eat lowest carb, but don't worry about fat". THis is now changing!!!! Great video!

    I’ve been watching your videos, and when I saw Dr. Naiman as your guest, (three years after this video was made), I jumped off my seat. He’s my doctor. He wasn’t accepting new patients, but took me last year because I needed a good doctor to explain my Labs. He’s slimmer than in this video, and very good. He did give me advice that I didn’t take, but I’m coming around. I see him in about a month. Lucky me!

I got told by alot of well known carnivore advocates I was lying trying to ruin the carnivore name. I have now done your psmf and my blood sugars have gone down by half. @@CreatingintheWaiting Somewhat, but overall energy intake (carbs and fat) will be king every time. Energy toxicity, regardless of the type of fat, will be a problem. Yes, some fats like linoleic acid are especially bad, but the amounts of any being too high will have the same result.

    If I remembered correctly, Dr Naiman said that we do not need to eat any cholesterol or saturated fat at all, as we create enough ourselves. One of the main drawbacks of vegan diet is lack of fats and macro/micro nutrients in general. Can anyone offer any reference for Dr N's statement of not needing saturated fat/cholesterol?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Před měsícem

      There is a difference between the minimum amount required to prevent deficiency and what is optimal. Yes, technically our body can make all the cholesterol and saturated fat that it needs. That's why they aren't essential fatty acids (Omega-3 and 6 are essential because our bodies can't make it). But I don't think that is necessarily optimal. Having healthy saturated fat and cholesterol in the diet is good overall in our opinion. At a minimum to give your liver a break from having to make all the cholesterol the body needs each day. :)

    I am doing carnivore. Coming from a background of binge eating and purging, I find that lowering the fat and eating lean protein only triggers me somewhat. I struggle to feel satiety. Food remains in the back of my mind the whole day, instead of me just forgetting to eat altogether, after a fatty meal. I feel more restricted instead of free. I am stalled, but I will rather be stalled than feeling tempted into slipping back into really bad old habits. Does this make sense to anyone else? So, for now, I am just cutting down the butter, dairy and sauces instead. Yes, I would love to lose the last few kilos and reach my dream goal weight BUT I think I am going to stick with my body healingly and slowly getting there on its own.

    I must be a freak of nature then, cuz my experience was of eating 200 gram of fat with 50 protein but every morning I woke up my sugars be between 50 and 80. I did this for 3 months. Yes I put on weigh, 20 pounds. My cortisol which was staying very low finally jumped up to 7.9, but my fasting a1c went up from 4.8 to 5.8, and I felt fabulous, I could actually get out of my chair and do something. But at the end of the 3 months I didn't like that my a1c jumped 10 points and I gained weight. But I loved the new found energy and that my cortisol went up. I took about 6 months of letting my body just eat meat, no extra fat unless I felt like it, i measure nothing, except the last week of the month. No carb other then what come from animal products. My energy tanked, I was tired feeling all the time, my cortisol was down at 2.9, and my sugar was now up at 110 to 120 every morning, and my weight has stayed exactly the same as when I finished the previous 3 months. I was also way more hungry, was feeling very on edge when I got hungry, I found I could not concentrate on anything till I fed my hunger, then I was fine. I also was having moments of just feeling not right, like light headed, tingling all over the body, and then I have like 5 hard rapped sneezes that hurt a lot. Almost like my body was trying to mix some compounds together. I also had this when I was diabetic it also only happened when I got hungry, like if i didn't feed my body fast enough it just made me sneeze. At the end of each month I took a few random days and weight and counted everything, it seems I was doing about 1200 calories, which is down 1100 calories from the 3 months of high fat but yet with that calorie deficient I didn't lose any weight at all, no energy, hungry a lot more and seemed to have gotten very antsy. Now i'm going back to high fat of 170 - 200 grams and 70 to 120 in protein and see how I do. 2 days in and I'm already feeling more energy and no hunger and my sugar are already dropping. Waking up the last to morning at 99 and 91 this morning. So what gives? Why do I feel so broken?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You have to track. Fat is energy, which is likely why you felt so good eating really high fat. But of course that result is unwanted weight gain for many people. When you went lower fat you weren't tracking and suffered from low energy which tells me a few things. One, you probably weren't getting enough electrolytes. Always track them. Next, you likely were not getting enough protein OR fat. You do need both. Protein is a goal you should always meet or exceed. Fat is a limit. Dial up for maintenance or weight gain, dial down for weight loss. BUT, our bodies NEED healthy saturated fats! They are what make healthy hormones as well as aid in proper fat soluble nutrient absorption. While you shouldn't be adding copious amounts of fat to your food when in weight loss mode, if you chronically undereat fat and calories it can result in issues too. If you aren't tracking you have no clue what you're taking in. If you are lacking in any of these departments you will suffer.

      @@MariaEmmerich I've been tracking the last 3 or 4 days and i'm doing 120 protein and 200 fat, was trying to do just 170, but i'm so damn hungry if I do. Some of the new inflammation has gone down, not as much pain in my left ankle though it still hurting. I'm also getting out of the chair as of today actually making some christmas cards...lol The scale has moved but only back to where I was the week before. I seem to be on a cycle of every 2 to 3 weeks or some things, cuz things just change. Now I'm going to say since I made this post I can say now i've only missed 4 days of pooping in the last 3 weeks which is amazing for me, before keto like every 2 week, then keto 1 a week and well undesirables, then carnivore every 4 days or so, then I did the High fat, then the lower fat and now i'm going regular. Is it to much to eat 4 of your fudge brownies before bed. I sleep so amazing if I eat 4, 2 is just okay and none hubby says I toss a lot when I don't eat any. I feel real guilty eating 4! I take them out of the oven and put them in the fridge and OMG!! I can actually feel my brain light up when I see them....same thing happens when hubby fries me hamburger with bacon and a little slice of cheese....mouth water brain feels like it exploding! Honestly I feel so good carnivore I will never stop eating this way even if I never lose weight, though I really would like to, but getting my health back is way more important right now. I'm headed back in for every 10 day nutrient infusions, been seeing things slipping back. I've had this swollen foot for 3 yrs now and every doc just send me to a heart doc who sends me in for the same test every time and come back clear. I just want to get it to stop hurting. Finally doc sending me to a foot doctor, hopefully he can figure out what going on. I have a nasty feeling it is carnivore cleaning it all up. It right where I had surgery to repair the tendons and ligaments in my ankle.

    Interesting stuff. One pet peeve. Please define "Refined Carbohydrates" which I interpreted as "fiber free carbohydrates" thanks to hours of Dr. Lustig's rants, and "Refined Fats" which I didn't know how to parse, having been more carb-insulin focused in my reading. Just any fat that's not endogenous to the plant or meat for consumption - is an Avacado a "Refined Fat", is it Butter, Cream, fruit pressed oils? Or just seed oils?
    I'm personally a fan of Dr. Bickman's work currently and this is a nice adjunct.

You prevent metabolic adaptation by having overfeed days once a week/ once every other week to combat any adaptations to the lower calorie PSMF days. You also must view the diet as a lifestyle change, and know that you'll never be able to go back to your old ways of eating that caused the weight gain in the first place.
