I was at this game. I was 9 years old. I'm now 39. Life.
Glad you could re-live it all, Sam!
@@thefacup Thank you very much ❤
I was 10 now I'm 40
I was there also, plus for the replay. Was lucky with our replay tickets as was seated next to the steps. Gave my scarf to Mark Hughes and shook hands with Danny Wallace and can see myself on the official cup final video. Long time ago now!
@@ChrisTCAP That's marvellous. Such great memories, eh
Ian Wright... What a player he was!
...and a gentleman too
@@johnc3403 Palace mede him a player.
Worked with a mate of his when he signed for palace he told me he be great an to watch for him. Ian wright fantastic.
He was but sadly turned into I'm an Arsenal man through n through,he's made that very clear many times.WE MADE HIM not Arsenal
I'm Liverpool fan and I have to say what a fakin game this was. I cry cos of the memories brings me joy ...
I'm 40 now 😢
Mark Hughes with the most important goal in man u history. If they had lost this, Fergie was gone, but they went on to win the replay and the following year, it all started.
What memories wow being 12 years old sat watching this with a can of Lilt and a bar of Marathon lol ( snicker) and loooking forward to italia 90 wow happy times
Absolutely fantastic . Italia 90 .. wow
The best, mate.
Sounds like my existence at that time!
@@spreadthelove77 yes great memories
There was something magical about the old Wembley, something that can’t seem to be replicated..
That time FA Cup final had a replay... and now it goes into Penalties..
Arjun Ohri iirc The 1993 Final also went to a replay between Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday and that’s the last FA Cup Final that went to a replay
@@drewgriffithsfm it was Palace`s game
It's hard to understand why Ian Wright only started his professional career at the age of 22! This guy got real talent, he could easily be a top striker even in today's game!
He had everything left foot, right foot, heading ability, pace, shooting from all angles and ranges chips over the goalie. A super talented player. Black strikers weren't a normal sight in English football as today there was a lot of prejudice so he was being held back that's for sure.
1:36 Nigel Martyn's reaction after conceding the goal is extraordinary.
Those were the days, short shorts and the cup final at the old Wembley. Used to get up early and watch the BBC on the teams road to the final and watch the players boarding the coach.
I miss the old Wembley better atmosphere.
I'm a Liverpool fan.
And this era for Fa cup was just awesome so many awesome memories
It was one of the greatest FA Cup final ever
Dominic Harkin deffo xx
2 players lit this one up. Hughes played for Bayern, barca and United. Wright played non league football. Great juxtaposition. Never give up.
Wright then went on and played for Arsenal (achieving the double and becoming one of their all time top scorers and Premier League greats), then West Ham, Celtic then Burnley. Not quite straight to non league football is it.
@Aron Maddocks I think i misunderstood the Original post, he was on about before this match not after.
When the FA Cup was still something special
Ian Wright 🔥 What a player what a man.
One of the best Palace teams ever (if not the best), so many quality players, remember they just moved up but then wrecked Div 1 for a while bf the team broke up, Wright and Bright were a huge media sensation then, they were so fun to watch and lots of TV episodes on both of them, they would face off each other later in classic Gunners-Wednesday double cup clashes
Yes it was
Fantastic cup final one of the best
Ian Wright the beast
Brilliant match of the FA Cup Final 1990 it was 34 years ago which I was 26 years old now age 60.
I am Wright, scoring that first goal, then running away, arms wide open, while mouth gapping wide open is one of the most iconic moments in FA Cup history. I THINK only 3+4 years earlier, locked up in a prison cell (admittedly for motoring offences). Then a painter & decorator after that. But never have up the dream.
I do believe I'm right in saying, Bobby Robson later admitted, if he'd STARTED this game, it might have persuaded him to drop Steve Bull & take him to Italy 90 instead.
Truly inspirational.
Best cup final ever seen
always liked Wrighty, spectacular finisher - as the commentator said, a bit of the "Ricky Villas" in that goal #COYS
If
As a 16 year old gooner in NZ I was delighted to sign Wrighty, especially after this performance.
I was 7 when this happened. I was 2 months short of 8. I went to my best friend's bday at his house. We all played football in the back garden, all day. When this came on, I ran in and sat with all the adults. Left all my friends outside. I never missed a kick. Then I watched the replay with my parents! Never forget it. Lee Martin started all the magic for Fergie with that winner. Brilliant.
What a match . Two incredible goals by Ian Wright really brought the game alive
I’m a United fan but kudos to Ian Wright for such a brilliant individual performance. Talk about impact players, he really did change the match after he was introduced into the action.
It was a brilliant first game ~ a real rollercoaster of a ride that ebbed and flowed from first to last. In the replay United were just too strong and well organised, Ferguson having made the now fully justified decision to rest Jim Leighton, with his stand-in, Les Sealy, having a brilliant match in which he made a couple of superb saves which kept Palace at bay.
From here on in United never looked back and it proved to be the catalyst for a very long and successful era.
Miss these days. Wonderful memories,
Ian Wright was unlucky to be on the losing side.
This FA cup is what made Manchester United the juggernaut for the next 23 years.
Ian wright the best fashion!
I miss the days of the Thursday night replays. The FA cup has lost its magic.
I remember this final, I was 16 at the time.
This was one of the best finals along with 1981, 1987, 2001, 2006 and 2014
I know this one is a bit old but 1956 deserve a shout too (bert trautmann broken neck)
@@raditoprayogo3918 Apparently 1924, Newcastle 2 Aston Villa 0 was a classic, with reports saying both teams played beautiful football and the drama really came at the end with two late goals.
1953 Mathew's final
Still the best FA cup final I've ever seen.
Wrighty was interviewed before the match and said “I was born for this day!”
I was there I was 24.great times.we should have beaten utd after wrighty got those 2 goals but sadly blew it in the replay. great times,no primadonnas
My first man u match!
Shame Leighton never learned his lesson about how Ferguson could be after Aberdeen's win against Rangers in the 83 Scottish Cup Final. Then he could have maybe gone to Celtic or Rangers, or a different English club and had longer at a top level than he did.
Jim Leighton’s confidence was shot
That game was the end of Jim Leighton's United career. He was replaced by Les Sealey in replay and was not entrusted again.
swewunna it was fair as he had a stinker.
@@kennztube Correct. Sealy made a.number of excellent saves in the replay, thus fully justifying the manager's confidence in him.
The palace goalkeeper surprised me after the second goal of Hughes with his backflip somersault
Beautiful macth
The Hughes equaliser saved Ferguson's utd career.
This game saved alex ferguson career
0:45 - 2:45 - 3:30 Why dropping Jim Leighton for the replay was absolutely the right decision.
Ian WRIGHT WRIGHT WRIGHT!!!!
Super sub wright
Lee Martin got the goal for Man United in the replay, AND THE REST IS HISTORY!
Motson's commentary sounds like it's being recorded in a tin can.
It's funny to see goalkeepers with the same socks and shorts as the field players ;)
Palace should have won that
i was at this game , went with my dad i was 7
4:25 - Nigel Martyn where are you going?
They should bring back those short shorts
Ian Wright Wright Wright
Just think if Palace had won then old Whiskey nose would have been fired by United. Would have been no United dynasty for the following 20 years.
Haha 26years later he built a dynasty
Is there a non-commentary version?
Palace were the underdogs? They only finished 2 places below and equal in points with United that season…
When football meant 'everything
When shorts were short
Better than the alternative
Jim Leighton would got onana level of hate for conceding like that
If Nigel Martyn had just stayed on his line there, instead of rushing out, Hughes wouldn't have scored, Palace would have won the cup, Fergie would have been fired, and we all would have been spared the insufferable Man United dynasty of the 90s and 2000s.
This match makes me MU Fans
fun fashion
Can't believe the hideous 'Jimmy Saville' type shellsuit tops that were around then . A time when football strips were at their worst.
Could have been Jim Leighton's last United game,. Can see why
He had a shocker
Who is the commentator for this final?
John Motson
Kiper jaman dulu kostum unik... Celana pendek banget
Alex Ferguson was right to drop Jimmy 🎉 the goalkeeper , all three goals conceded was his fault
haha ref stops celebrations
man u got lucky
Josh Cummings easy now pal iwas there. xx
Hello
Draw?
Leighton was so unlucky to be dropped for replay ..united 3 goal was Martyn failed no one mention this
what? it ends a draw...
that means there was a replay
Yes there was a replay...utd won 1-0
why was there Extra time but not penalties? i know the finals back then had replays but it doesnt make sense to go to extra time then does it? why not just call it at 90 and only have extra time in the replay final?
agree with you
Having a reply was always a last resort...It makes perfect sense to me to try and win it on the day with an extra 30 mins if the score is tied at full time rather than go straight to a replay. I still think the final should be replayed at least once these days before penalty kicks are used to decide the outcome.
Because players weren’t pussys then and they could play another 30mins
Man Utd!
oh so it ended in a tie? nobody won? great
كيف مباراه نهائي يتعادلو؟

up the eagles
Jim leighton was dreadful
ndl
woohoo won again hahahaha in extra time

All through this FA Cup run United were the luckiest bastards alive. They should never have won it!!
🤣
@Aron Royle Palace lost again in 2016 fa cup so what's the excuse this time ?
Second consecutive year where 2 players scored a brace in the final. Back when the Cup final was biggest day of the football year. 8 hours coverage.
Leighton was rightly dropped for the replay, he was an utter disaster in this game and his form had been tailing off for months. Fergie's judgment in picking Sealey for the replay was spot on, the fact that Leighton is still bitter and sour about it to this day says it all.
@@allthekingshorses7178 agreed. Leighton is bitter and didn't even reply to a request to attend Geoff Thomas fundraiser when he was sick.
@@Bigbaz86...and it gets better. Scotland were playing Wales in a world cup qualifier in Cardiff and salvaged a late draw to make the play offs (Scotland eventually qualified). This was the night Jock Stein tragically collapsed and died at the final whistle, and Leighton had to be subbed at half time with Scotland 1-0 down because he'd lost his contact lens and didn't have a replacement (he never once told Stein or Ferguson that he wore contact lenses). Refuses to take the blame for that either
@@allthekingshorses7178 wow. That's dereliction of duty on Leightons part.
