Didn't Tommy Hutchinson also score an own goal against Spurs in 1981? I'm surprised John didn't mention that fact.

Weird weird day. I couldnt believe we turned up in that disgusting new umbro kit for the final. Adored the Hummel one it was gorgeous. Gascoigne should have been red carded which obviously would have been to Tottenham's detriment but ironically the changes required seem to enforce Spurs determination particularly in the second half. As for the match itself, Forest deservedly took the lead with a fantastic freekick which doesn't get the same recognition as Gazzas in the semi despite that it was equally as good.
Linekers goal should have stood & the penalty was stonewall but what a save from Crossley . As a Spurs fan I felt for Clough but Tottenham's need to win was greater in respect of the club's financial turmoil.

The thing I've always wondered about the Gazza incident when he did his cruciate...what the hell was he doing in that position to make that tackle? He was an attacking midfielder but when he did that ludicrous lunge on Gary Charles he'd somehow popped up in the centre halfs position.

@@supertottenhamtv I think it was an indication about just how much Gazza had lost his head that day to suddenly end up in that position. IMO this Wembley is better than the new Wembley. The new Wembley has a design fault with shadowing during games played in the day when it's sunny. The officiating at this game though was terrible. Disallowing a perfectly good goal and not at the very least giving Gazza a yellow card for that foul on Parker, which may have saved his career.

Gascoigne should have been sent off twice. Each of those 'tackles' was worthy of a red on its own. The fact he was stretchered off changed everything as the whole narrative changed from him being a villain to a victim. It just gets worse from there. The Forest free-kick should not have stood because Glover pushed a Spurs player out of the exact spot where Pearce placed it for his goal. The first Spurs goal was onside but I think the second one was offside by the rules of the day, so they got one they shouldn't have had and were denied one they should have had. As a Forest fan, the whole thing left a bit of a sour taste by the end of it. And yes, still salty after all these years.
