As a life long Fleury fan it stinks to see Ryan Miller at this point in his career wasted. He was SUCH a good goalie and use to steal games for Buffalo all the time. Miller was a better Goalie than Fleury but he just never had a team past 2007-08. It really stinks to see guys like him wasted.

I too am a year late and asking this. He bring up Berg at 8:30 mark. Chara seems like a lock. He's been a shutdown defensemen for 20 years. I don't think you should have to be a two way player to make it in.

I think personally if you think Kane, Toews and the Sedin twins are locks, I'd say Getzlaf is a lock too. 2 Olympic gold 1 Stanley cup (so far) lead his team in playoff scoring the year they won the cup too. Over 800 career points so far and 118 pts in 121 playoff games. Also, maybe the 2nd best setup man of this era behind Thornton. I think that warrants a HOF induction.

As a Sens fan this may be a little biased, but honestly, his legacy could be lasting on the league for a long time.
Teams are already starting to value puck moving defenseman (Guys like Makar going high in the draft are proof). Before he came in, the whole league as in a fuss about how you need to be big to be a successful defender and he's completely turned that around and I think going forward, teams will be building around skill > size solely because people are waking up to how important a defenseman who can score can be.

I like your list for the most part. Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Jagr and Thornton are first ballot shoe-ins. No questions asked. I also think the three Blackhawks you mentioned deserve to be in on the first ballot. I also think Zdeno Chara deserves serious consideration: Stanley Cup Champion, Norris Trophy winner, one of the most feared players ever, playing over 20 minutes a game well into his 40s, still a captain.
I think some L.A. Kings also need to be considered. I wouldn't induct Brown, Carter or Richards, as good as particularly Brown is, but I would seriously consider Anze Kopitar and particularly Drew Doughty (at the rate Doughty has gone in his career, he's definitely HoF material). I'd give some consideration to Jonathan Quick as well.
Corey Perry deserves consideration if Getzlaf does too. And Carey Price of course deserves to be considered.

You could be way more generous. 4 inducted every year. You put 14 ish guys forward. That covers 3.5 years of nominations on player that are in their late 20s to young 40s. Space for more. Got to mention SC winners Doughty, Kopitar, Quick, Chara, Bergeron (come on 4 selkes and counting) and more.

If Thornton is in, Marleau has to be in. 500+ goals, 20 years with one franchise (I know he just went somewhere else). And I know I'm biased as an LA fan but Drew Doughty absolutely should be on here. Otherwise great list.

Roberto Luongo, a hall of fame inductee. Drafted with a maple leaf draft pick. A pick traded t the New York islanders along with Kenny Jonson. A defence man who became an all star and the captain of the islanders. For a broken down Wendell Clarke, don’t get me wrong I love the way Wendell gave his all. Fletcher always talks about his trade for sundin. Never ever mentions that trade. I remember the knuckle heads like stormin Norman rumack and other Toronto tv and radio personalities all saying we needed Wendell back. Fletcher even said I did what the fans asked for when he announced the trade. Soon after Fletcher was gone from the GM job. Toronto press, tv and radio “personalities” are one reason ( there are many others) why Toronto has not even played in a final in the last 50 years. Never mind won a cup. Wendell lasted another two years. Not his fault his body could not deliver. But certainly the fault of the knuckle head radio pundits and sycophantic management.

Since you brought up Joe Thorton scoring 100 assists in a season if he played in the 1980's a good question would be how many goals/assists/ points todays stars would score in thr 1980's.
The big issue would be "would coaches know how to utilize an Alex Ovechkin" in 1980's hockey?
That said, if Ovechkin played on a team with a solid playmaking center or defenseman then barring an injury Ovechkin would easily score 70 goals a few times with an outside chance of breaking Gretzky's record for goals in a season. Put him on a line with a healthy Lemieux, Gretzky or Adam Oates and Ovechkin might hit triple digits in goals scored in a single season.
There is just no possible way that 1980's defensemen would be able to contain that combination of speed, strength and skill.

Patrice bergeron. Yes I am a boston fan. With that said made the team at 18, teows caliber I believe with those two switching teams Bergeron would have identical offensive #'s if not better. Face-offs he's better. And if chara wasn't basically contracted the captaincy, it would have been patrice.
