  • Those who attended this game, look back on it, and will surely struggle finding another game that equals the intensity of this game. It was DEAFENING when the Lions were on defense from the first play through the final sack of Troy Smith resulting in a fumble that sealed the win for Penn State. (regardless of what Ron Franklin says during the call)
    Details of the game below:
Penn State defeated the Buckeyes 17-10 in front of 109,839 fans, during a student White Out, at the time the second-largest Beaver Stadium crowd (topped later the same season by the home game versus Wisconsin). Michael Robinson threw for 78 yards and carried the ball 14 times for 52 yards and a touchdown. Calvin Lowry intercepted Ohio State QB Troy Smith and returned the ball to the 2-yard line, setting up Robinson's touchdown.
Ohio State, needing to score a game-tying touchdown, began their final possession on their own 11-yard line with under 4 minutes to play. After moving the ball into Penn State territory, Tamba Hali sacked Smith at midfield, forcing a fumble recovered by Scott Paxson and allowing the Nittany Lions to run out the clock. Led by Paul Posluszny who had 14 tackles and a sack in the game, the Penn State defense held the Buckeyes to only 230 total yards.
Posluszny was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the first time that a Big Ten player has been named in three consecutive weeks. The team was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week by the Football Writers Association of America.
The game was ESPN's second largest audience for a regular season college football game. That morning's ESPN's College Gameday, which broadcast from University Park for the first time since 1999, was the most-viewed edition of that program in its history

It was definitely the loudest I can ever remember the pregame/opening series of the game being. Penn State fans wanted this one BAD. Thank god we hung on! Had they blown a 21-0 lead I'm not sure what would have happened in the aftermath

I was there, senior year. Will never forget the eruptions when 1) Lowry picked off Smith and 2) Paxson recovered the fumble
Zombie nation blaring - thought the stadium was gonna collapse!!!

It was an amazing game, drove without a ticket and spent $125 on one on a rainy night. Best money I ever spent. Great game! Couldn't speak at work for two days.

You could feel the stadium quivering. My friends in the press box said it was actually moving. I've been through 6 decades of Beaver Stadium games back to Rip Engle and nothing beats this for noise.

I was 15 at the time and had a student sitting to my right and we were the only two people who didn't stand the entire game - I sat to rest my back, he did it because he was fucked up on something and kept dozing off(must've been good shit, 'cause I have no idea how he managed it.)
Regardless, sitting down while everyone else is up and bouncing is a good way to experience what an earthquake feels like. I swear the stands were bending an inch with every bounce. Still one of the coolest experiences I've everhad.

I'm a Penn State alumni and have been to many great games, but nothing compares to this one. The crowd, the noise, the stadium moving this was the ultimate experience in college football. My wife and I and the kids were all at this game dressed in white. WE ARE, and we will never forget it.

Man if we only beat Michigan a week later we coulda had a shot at the national championship and kicked some Texas or USC ass! I would rank this 2005 Nittany Lion team as the best PSU team of the 2000's so far, although that 2016 team with McSorley and Barkley was pretty close but they had an inferior defense compared to 2005

@@daveromanyshyn1170 The one major flaw that 2005 team had, was kick coverage.. Why they ever kicked to Breston, I'll never know.. But they did. The fact Henne had the 01 second on the clock in the end to beat us, however, was bush league. Totally Lloyd Carr "Referined."

Cole Kitchen I remember it like it was yesterday. The two seconds on the clock will haunt us forever. But, we did blow an eight-point lead halfway through the 4th quarter. Sounds like PSU in 2017-2019.

@@daveromanyshyn1170 Penn State football 2016-2019 and on... is in far better shape than where it was back in 2005. Just look at recruiting. We get a solid win over a good Memphis squad in two weeks, finish the year 11-2 with our 3rd top 10 finish in 4 years... with a probable top 10 preseason ranking heading into 2020... Skies the limit my friend.

2005 was louder & more intense than 2016.
Both were amazing atmospheres, and they are #1 & #2 all time imo.
But the stadium shook from beginning to end in ‘05. It felt like the whole structure was about to collapse. And you couldn’t even hear the person next to the entire game.
