  • The origin of Penn State’s ‘White Out’ | College GameDay
The annual White Out game has become one of the signature traditions in all of college football and what started in the student section has become a movement, for the town, the team and 110,000 strong on Saturday nights.

by far best sports atmosphere I've ever experienced-- and I've attended basically every single ball sport popular in America. The community atmosphere is insane. Many hate on it and call it "the Kool Aid", but it's legitimately just a close-knit moment of community and shared purpose that is an utter rarity in contemporary culture. And THAT is why we love sports.

As an Auburn fan who paid 400$ for a ticket it was well worth it. I was sitting behind the Auburn band. The timeout chants what I loved the most. Plus I met Franklin’s wife while I was headed to my gate.

Die-hard michigan wolverines season ticketholder here and I love our "maize out" but I'd love to experience a penn st white out. I hate that alot of season ticketholders for michigan are 1960s and 70s grads and they just sit there and don't make any noise. I'm sorry but I hate that. That's why penn state is louder despite a few thousand less people. The fans let loose and have fun. Michigan is stuck in the 70s with their old stuckup grads.

I like our chances every time its a Whiteout, because we have the talent to win, and the crowd is an extra boost. I'm interested to see how Ryan Day does at the Whiteout next year.
