Making the BIKE CARB 4AGE AW11 road LEGAL

  • The bike carb 4age aw11 is finally on the road! It's still far from perfect but the bike carb 4age sings its first real notes!
    Before the driving there is a pretty big intro where I bring you guys up to speed on what has been going on with the aw11 recently and why it wasn't driven sooner. All the details are in the video, but to keep it short the main problem was a fauly ignition coil pack that had me running around in circles and troubleshooting the carbs and everything else instead of it (as it was brand new). The other problem was a newly discovered leaky radiator. I tried to get a guy to weld me up a new radiator locally, but that failed miserably. Somehow I managed to find and order a brand new radiator from the Netherlands, and it will arrive in week. But here's the problem I went ahead and finished the paperwork for the temporary plates so the car would be ready as soon as the newly locally welded up aluminum radiator was done. The temporary plates are the only reasonable way to get the car on the road and onto a technical inspection after which it received the regular plates and becomes road legal. My plates are valid for 2 more days, I have a leaky radiator and I have to go to have the car inspected, because once the temp plates expire you have to pay a tow truck and that costs way too much money. So the only way out is to install the leaky radiator and hope the staff doing the technical inspection don't notice it. So that's exactly what we will doing in this video.
    We also don't have an alignment, no front sway bar, the carbs aren't tuned but none of that will stop us. We are going all or nothing! Watch the video to see how it went.

    Hi, I've owned these car's for 21 years, I currently own 5 😂 although only 2 are road worthy, when doing any work on the cooling system you have to take particular care in bleeding air out of the system which can also affect idle. My main AW11 is a JDM Supercharger enjoy.

Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to more driving content to come!

    I cried tears of joy today... I can't believe it that it was running on two cylinders, and I completely understand the second guessing of everything you've touched. I do it all the time. Had to put a thermostat housing in an 07 passat last week, whilst the customer hung around the shop. The feeling of unease was palpable. Love ya bruv, the carbs sound good! Time for a fine tune!

The subtitles about caring about Earth were just funny, just appearing while talking about being good on having more emissions license! Really enjoy these spontaneous videos and your editing after. Well, I have a different approach on environment but it requires some beers to talk about. Seeing all the road (videos) until here made me taste a little of your excitement. Great job so far and congratulations dude, even knowing, by the list of videos, just like the 3rd person game POV drive, which I've seen, that you made improvements. I wish you all the best. If the radiator end tanks are still workable condition, a radiator shop should be able to use a generic length core and make it fit. My friend and I ordered a "direct fit" radiator from RockAuto it was all sorts of wrong. We went this route and it worked. I find with many of older Toyota's the aftermarket parts do not fit or work properly.

    Your excitement punching the throttle in the tunnel was great! It’s how I feel every time I take mine out :) but unfortunately mine is off the road pending a new radiator too. driving 4 answers A cool trick that people don’t realize or know... record your sound on a iPhone or a good smartphone (while you video) and then combine the audio with the video file later ! The microphones in smart phones or even older cellphones are much higher quality than the $15 ones you buy off Amazon that are supposed to be for using with action cameras. Ideally you can buy a used ZOOM brand sound recorders ... I have recorded concerts with those before, they are a proper musician spec audio company and used they go very cheap... Your audio is pretty bad to be honest ! Recording sound takes some research and patience. Try the cell phone for audio as a test, put the phone close to the rear as close to the engine as possible... then listen to your result with headphones, again iPhone headphones are overlooked by regular users however they are actually a high quality product ... experiment with positioning

    • @d4a
      @d4a  Před 5 lety

      @@alexjapanski6806 I have a brand new Zoom H1, but I didn't use it for this video because my focus was the first drive and technical inspection. I could barely make the video so I went for the simplest setup possible, a complex recording setup would have distracted me even further. The mic on the DSLR is a Rode Video micro, it isn't 15$, but it isn't a 100$ either and it's a directional mic that is great for capturing voice (which you can hear really well) but pretty bad at stuff like engine sounds. Smartphone recording only works with really good and expensive phones. I never owned an expensive phone because I break them every 2-3 months or so :)

One way to fix it is increasing the stiffness of the return spring, by cutting it, only a bit is enougth. Hope it helps

    You said you're getting a Copper radiator correct?
    I've heard of galvanic corrosion, mixing dissimilar metals with each other can cause massive corrosion issues which will then cause cooling issues. I would assume your aluminum head and block would also corrode heavily. I'm a fanatic with automotive and computers, and when i say computers, i do love the idea of watercooling computers, majority of radiators for computers are Copper, while radiators for automotive are aluminum since the block and head are aluminum, might as not mixed different metals together with coolant. Computers use copper for radiators for the higher efficiency in transfering heat i believe but rather expensive, only time i've heard of using aluminum radiators for computer is either
    1.) if you're cheap as hell and buy the crap from aliexpress and make a cheap AF watercooling build with UNKNOWN parts then its rather okay to do so as long as all your components in the loop are aluminum (Can probably have brass, nickel plated brass and so forth)
    2.) if the AIO's (all in one) cooling units that are pretty much rebranded asetek design pump and radiator combos that are built and most likely cannot be serviceable are only aluminum because CHEAP for materials most likely.

    Glad you got it running, though you came close to losing it in the tunnel. First, I had to laugh at the "inspection"...no horn, sticking throttle, and a leaking radiator...hmmm. Get the throttle fixed first. On your wideband, you cannot use the stock oxygen sensor location to get an accurate reading...read the instructions provided with the wideband to locate your new oxygen sensor (must be downstream of the collector, typically in the midpipe). Then you can monitor and tune the carbs. You should have been able to smell the excessive gas if running only on 2 cylinders. A quick test is to disconnect the spark lead from each cylinder see when running and listening for the engine slowing down; it will not make a difference on a "dead" cylinder (no ignition, no fuel, or low/no compression). Simple diagnostic check.

      It was surprisingly easy to catch it in the tunnel , there was really no "snap" in it, pretty predictable. It just surprised me a bit as I forgot I had no alignment for a moment. When it comes to the sensor location, I always read instructions don't worry, I know this isn't perfect but it still gives a reading that is a reference point to see in which direction I'm going until I have a new header made. Some people install 4 of these sensors, one runner each and monitor each cylinder separately, so it's not a useless location. Spark test also familiar with, but as I said in the video I only tested cylinder 1 and assumed all others were firing, which was stupid of me. Technical inspection is all about the brakes, but definitely far less strict when compared to USA, UK, Germany, etc. They did turn a bit of a blind eye seeing as it's a restoration project and I did have to promise to fix up a bunch of things asap :)

      It's running NoDiz. NoDiz can't tell whether a bank of coils is firing or not. It can tell you that it is firing the coils but whether or not the coil itself is actually firing will always be a mystery until it is tested.

    AFR gauge does not sense fuel, it senses oxygen. So your logic is wrong in this aspect - if you have misfire wideband will always show lean condition because of a lot of fresh air in the exhaust.
    Also it doesn't sound like running on 2 cylinders to me... Neither on Lambda clip, nor on first drive clip... Still watching the video...

    • @d4a
      @d4a  Před 5 lety

      It didn't sound like running on 2 cyls to anybody :) but it was, I tested for it later, plain as day. Engine dies when you remove spark plug wires 1 or 4, absolutely nothing would happen when you remove 2 or 3.

    • @777MAV
      @777MAV Před 5 lety

      @@d4a Yes, for sure! Engine tone definitely changed when you fixed it and power came up accordingly, but it's not strange that you missed it in the first place because it really sounded fine to me )) Usually when 2 cylinders on 4 cylinder engine are missing engine really struggles on idle. Maybe your "high idle" issue also contributed to this...
