- RefGuess is back! In this season, a select few Jomboy Media office members compete to gain points by guessing players based only on their Baseball Reference stat page. Each one guessed correctly is worth one point. If the player guesses all three correctly they advance to the trivia round. Guessing the trivia question correctly is worth two points for a grand total of five possible points per episode. The most points at the end of the season wins bragging rights and a The RefGuess Trophy.
This week's theme: NL Central Players

Could've done the NL Central teams to appear in a world series since 2000 to add a sneaky 2005 Astros answer
You know what, it’s actually refreshing to see Jomboy just straight up say “I don’t know anything other than the Yankees.”
Like he says in most videos, “You know your team better than we do.” Not refreshing, quite common.
To his credit, I don’t think he’s ever put on airs about being a baseball encyclopedia or anything. Him and Jake have been upfront about being fans more than scholars.
@@ryanmccarthy7381then why do videos like this? And he has said several times that he is baseballs biggest fan. Not Yankees biggest fan, baseballs. I get he hasn’t put himself out there as someone who knows a ton of ball like foolish baseball but he hasn’t put himself out there as a Yankees only guy either.
Hell yeah Joez! I love the pop off at the end!
@@harrisonbaylor1432he's never called himself "baseball's biggest fan", no idea where you're getting that from.
Joez showing up man, loving it 😁😁
seriously, the turnaround is electric to watch
For real dude, he is killing it! Go Joez!
Jolly - "I can't let my boss go out on easy"
“Love this guy really want him in the Show!”
“Uh-ras-mis Ramirez!!”
😂
And we're getting mistakes right off the bat...
Requirements: player must have played for either THREE NL Central teams, or in the NL Central their entire career.
Very first guy: Only played for 2 NL Central teams, and certainly not their entire career.
Edit: same issue with hard mode.
Jolly, love your work man, but ummmm... you are aware that the Phillies are in the NL EAST, not the Central, right?...
Jolly thinking Philly is in the central and Jomboy not knowing that Aramis Ramirez existed for 18 years, what even is this episode
Main rival of his NY Mets 😂
Loved the popoff from Joez at the end
Joez rant at the end 😂😂😂🐐🐐
Joez: “I wish it said starter or reliever”
It literally has how many games they started each year
Does Jolly think the Phillies are in the NL Central?
He wishes they were so they would stop beating up the mets as much
@@crimsonpenguino4406Phillies don’t even beat up on the Mets. It’s mostly the braves
I was asking myself the same thing lol
Would love to see you guys go back in time a bit every now an then. I think a "Hall of Famers" episode would be awesome. There are some really obscure Hall of Famers that not many people know about, or that people know about but might have trouble recognizing them from their stats. I think it would be super interesting to see how everyone does with Arky Vaughan, or Mickey Cochrane, or even someone a little more recent like Don Sutton.
I agree totally. Imagine these guys seeing the stats of Rogers Hornsby or Ty Cobb. It would be hilarious.
@@markbrenzel9419 I'd LOVE to see Tommy McCarthy as the hard. They'd think Jolly was lying about him being a HOFer.
New Ref Guess drinking game: Take a shot everytime they mention the 2004 0-3 ALCS disaster when the player was a NYY in 2004.
Jolly at 0:20: “name players who have played for at least 3 NLC teams or in the NLC for their entire career”
Easy mode: *is neither*
Edit: Hard mode: *is also neither*
Edit 2: Team Joez, get in here
Lmao I was hoping someone else saw that😭
I was almsot gaslit into thinking that the phillies were a central team in the late 90s
Cardinals are nlc
@@jacobchopiak7969 I know, so are the reds. Where is the 3rd?
Average day of Jolly just making simple mistakes in almost every video.
Wooooow what a gimme of a trivia question. I was expecting one on Cesar Izturis. I bet Shelfy, BBD and Max are kicking themselves right now.
Still hoping for a 90s All-Stars round.
Good hard followed by waaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooo easyyyyyyyyy trivia
seriously that was kinda a joke
The trade that brought Aramis to Chicago was simply amazing work. Not only was Aramis brought in and they locked him in for a long contract, but it was also the trade that brought the Cubs Kenny Lofton, a key piece to that playoff team. And honestly, the Cubs didn't give up a ton to get him either.
As a Cubs fan, this one was a breeze! 😄
We're at a point now where the year the Cubs won the World Series is a trivia question. Oh boy. Why must time eternally keep moving forward?
It's still the easier half of an admittedly easy trivia question, still take solace in that
Joez (mocking): YoU oNLy kNoW YAnkEe BAseBaLL
Also Joez: Got Jon Lieber on his 2004 stint with the Yankees
Lol, still love you Joez. I have you top 4 finishing the season.
jimmy not recognizing Aramis Ramirez's name is CRAZYYYY
He literally only cares about the Yankees and thinks every other team is irreverent, very annoying to watch him in anything that isnt a breakdown.
Definitely didn't think Joez would be a player in this league. Love it. Love Joez
Jolly: "No I can't let my boss look stupid and fail easy I have to say the player's name". NO! Let them fail easy, way more entertaining to see someone literally just brain fart. We've all been there
I know it's just a fun video that we shouldn't take too seriously, but the fact that they are going through all the trouble to keep track of their scores through the season to determine a RefGuess champion, to then have Jolly just straight up give the answer to one of the contestants just really irks me for some reason. Jolly's a great host in many ways, but he's gotta tighten up the rules here
@@bradleylove200 he did the same a few videos ago with Joez 😂😂😂
@@bradleylove200he can't help himself from giving people insane clues its so weird
To be fair Jimmy has never been known as a baseball knowledge guy. He basically got famous cutting together MLB memes. I've seen him struggle with some pretty easy ones in other episodes.
@@Gerps I thought he got famous for the lip reading videos he did. He would post them a lot. He blew up then
Jolly def the Angel Hernandez of trivia hosts
Joez!!!! with perfection!!! LFG dude
Joez going for that podium finish let's gooooo
The medium (i dont want to spoil) was soooooooo underrated as a player, I loved him back in the day, great pick!!!!
I tried to guess Easy just based on the still at 0:27 where the silhouette is covering the teams and I guessed Aramis Ramirez bc the years, position, and awards looked right. Obviously knew the real answer as soon as I saw the teams and then laughed out loud when I saw Medium lol
Hard was an instaget! First pitch I ever saw at an MLB game was thrown by him against the Red Sox, September 2004 in Yankee Stadium.
As a kid born into cubs torture in 97 a-ram was always one of my favs. Knew that one immediately
Funny seeing Joez say he knows everyone on the cubs team that won when he couldn’t remember Javier Baez being in them in the darts trivia video
Lastings Millidge is a crazy pull
I don't recall Lastings hitting 386 home runs. Very funny pull indeed.
Medium finally found a way to make that boy right, as he was once traded for Bobby Hill.
Always nice to see people win w/ such class and grace.
"I know everybody on the team!" Are you sure Joez? What about Javy Baez?
I was thinking Jon Lieber the entire time but I wasn't sure. The anticipation was killing me!
Wow, first time I got all three right off the bat....wish I could have been in the video lol
I was hoping for Tony Womack or Jeff Suppan for hard but those would have been pretty brutal
Aramis is probably my favorite player. So underrated. Him and Lieber always felt reliable
'Aramis Ramirez'
( no name recognition at all )
Well deserved pop off for Joez. No one saw him ahead of BBD this late
Joez redemption in BIP showings and showing he knows ball….impressive Joez era
To Max's credit on Lieber, Baker was signed as a free agent with the Yankees and was released before playing in the majors or minors, so he wasn’t too far off the Yankees trail. Same for Shelfy, Millwood played in the Yankees minor league chain
Nothing defines the 2005 Phillies more than the fact that they had Jon Lieber jersey shirts as a promo giveaway.
Only ones I got were the bonus questions. I knew the Cubs because "Back to the Future II" had them winning it in 2015 and the Cubs won it a year later than predicted.
Got Aramis within 0.5 seconds. Fantasy god at 3b for 10+ years.
I was in the same boat as Jomboy until the name Aramis Ramirez popped into my head. I'm not sure i remember ever seeing him play a game nor did i know how good he was or who he played for apart from the Cuba but he was the only 3rd baseman i could remember from that time period.
I only think of Scott Rolen as a Phillies player. maybe bc as a child i saw him as a divisional position rival to Chipper Jones.
Joez continues to impress. Keep it up.
Joez is the true underdog story of the season
I'm a cubs fan, this episode was my WHEELHOUSE!!
I knew the Medium player was going to be in this episode, I honestly thought he was going to be in the Easy round. And I Love You Joez McFly
Something changed over time, amd Joez became a top-3 Jomboy personality for me.
impressed with jake's ball knowledge
As a cardinals fan the silhouette gave me Scott rolen immediately and I’m guessing Ryan ludwick will pop up by the end
Thanks for putting in 2 Cubs, This was easy for me lmao.
As an older Pirates fan, all 3 of the players were softballs for me, but I wouldn't have got the years for the world series titles
In my lifetime there have been 2 Pirates players to not use a walkup song. One is refguess hero Melky Cabrera and one is the answer for medium, Aramis Ramirez
Ohhh i feel so good getting that last one! Got it weirdly fast.
Love how Joez turned into Biggie at the end. Lol
A lot of people forget the Astros had a lot of good teams and even lost a world series in 2005. They really should of gotten at least one.
Shocked Jimmy has never even heard of Aramis Ramirez.
"Please don't make me do any more of these" - Jomboy
This rarely happens for me, but I went perfect, in less than 5 seconds per round. 😳 There were very few bright spots to being a Cubs fan in the late 90s and early 00s, but it feels good to get a win from it now, haha.
Being born in 2004 and not knowing anything about baseball pre 2010s makes this game really hard
Aramis Ramirez was a problem. Loved him in Milwaukee
Joez, noted NL Central fan
I think Jolly forgot that the Phillies are an NL East team somehow.
I read the title, and knew Scott Rolen would be here.
Lol Hozier just played in my town last night (Grand Rapids)
Jomboy acknowledging he doesn’t know baseball players sums up most Yankees fans.
Never heard of Aramis, James, that’s kinda crazy
Jolly either doesn't know how to count or what teams are in the NL Central, which brought this jawn down, but King Joez popping off at the end there more than made up for it!
(I'm sorry Joez, I wouldn't have expected you to lead BBD. I thought you could beat Jimmy and Shelfy though. Sneaky decent ball-knower)
Aramis Ramirez was a legend on MLB Power Pros
Jimmy keeps it real
way to go JOEZ!
thanks
TELL EM JOEZ!!!
"The rule is players who either played for at least 3 NL Central teams in their career or who spent their entire careers in the NL Central" Hard: Pirates, Cubs, Yankees, Phillies. Which one of the Phillies and Yankees are in the NLC?
Wasn’t the formula for these players “at least 3” NL Central teams? The Hard player only played on 2 NL central teams (cubs/pirates)
Same for the Easy player only playing for two NLC teams.
@@SwAeromotionvery interesting maybe I can’t count to 3
I actually blind guessed medium. Blind guessed Edmonds as easy because he fit the qualifications that the actual guy didnt
Give them both a 500 point bonus in Guts.
My blind guess going into this was Aramis Ramriez lol
Also i see you Joez! Pop off
I know I dont follow the NL but I could have sworn Philly was in the NL East...
I mean, Rolen also played in the AL too
@@PhilliesNostalgia he is saying that because it was stated they played for THREE national league central teams or played in the division their whole life.
Lets go Joez!!!
Hell yea Joez
LETS FUCKING GO JOEZ
First time ive just not even heard of the easy guy.
It’s okay Jomboy, everyone watching the videos misses some too.
What’s more embarrassing is thinking the Phillies are an NL Central team.
How the hell did you forget about Scott Rolen that quickly?
Blue Rocks Mentioned!!!
Don't know what happened but Scott Rolen's page has some inaccuracies.
3/3 on rounds and the bonus
Love how Joez forgets the greatest WS game 7 of all time.
Joez Knowz
Why does Jolly have a halo in every one of these videos now?
Who was hard mode bro, feel like ref guess was harder this year😢
Aramis Rameriz super underrated
They wrote off Joez…but he never wrote back!
Aramis Ramirez was so good
