Helene I loved this vlog, so good ! I just ordered educated on my kindle so I can read it while I'm away . You are delightful to listen too! Thankyou so much
Definitely going to get The Idiot I share a love of language All The Pretty Horses - I read it as part of his trilogy, and I didn't enjoy it either. Actually enjoyed his writing style, the story just didn't chime with me. Read lots of similar books and it usually ticks all my boxes but for some reason it didn't - tried others (the Road and No Country ...) but had a similar response (didn't enjoy) Interested in the Mermaid story, definitely will be getting this too The Humans - interesting, and whilst the premise slightly weak, sounds like fun Love the way you adore the look of books I used to but these days, simply read and pass to charity (although do have some special stuff Enjoy Copenhagen - lovely city, visited last year and thoroughly Great Vlog
Zeus could start his own ASMR channel! Zeus trampling on a rustling bag with his smooth elegant movements...and whisking his tail over our eyes. Divine! Relaxing and sleep inducing. Zzzzzzzzeus. :D
Matt Haig is my favourite author of all time, his books are all thought provoking is some way, even if it is subtable and not the main drive of the plot. I believe that his best book is How To Stop Time. It isn't thought provoking driven but it is a gorgeous story! You should definitely read more of his works.
I love it as well! It's nice to have them near the coffee machine and on display, so that I know what I've got to choose from. BUT when it's super hot outside and the sun is shining in, the mugs do get rather hot to grab - and I always remember that too late! :P
You got through House of Leaves so fast! I can't remember how quickly it took me to get through it but it was definitely a lot longer haha. I feel like we felt quite smartly about it! Definitely a feat but not a perfect read by any means. I loved this vlog, you got through so many books! Such a shame about the Morgan Matson book, I loved Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by her when I read it a while ago, and was considering picking her latest one up from the library as it's wedding themed and seemed summery... Maybe not now! Hope your July reading is just as fruitful 💕😊
I definitely think that you should pick up the Morgan Matson book if you're in the mood for a summery, family read. Just don't expect too much from the plot. And yeah, I was surprised myself at how fast I got through House of Leaves, but I did read a lot that weekend :)
Yesterday at the library I reserved two books you mentioned on that day's video: "Woman in the Window" and "In the Woods". "House of Leaves" sounds very interesting and the "...Leaves" go well with the "...the Woods"!---I've heard about Cormac MCCarthy and am getting more involved with reading current authors but if he doesn't use punctuation then his work may not be for me.
I also LOVED The Idiot. The other interesting thing about it is that I find myself loving it more & more the more I think about it. It's definitely a book that seems simple on the surface but there is A LOT going on underneath. I've been dying to read Song of Achilles but I'm worried I would go absolutely crazy with the shifting tenses...that is something that totally gets under my skin. I'll still probably read it though but go in with much lower expectations.
Hey Helene. How are you doing? Thanks for another great video. I am currently reading 2 massage therapy related textbooks. I have been a licensed massage therapist for the past 7 years, not including the 2 years that I spent doing volunteer computer and phone work. Anyway, in order to maintain my license, I have to perform 12 hours of Continuuing Education Credits every 2 years. So, I am reading the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, and the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain Handbook. I also have 2 packets of questions to answer that comes with the course. After I fill those out, I will transfer my answers to a test online. So, other than that, and for fun, I am currently working on the first book in the Crazy Rich Asians series by Kevin Kwan. I have also picked up a digital audio book copy of Educated. I know exactly how you feel, my reading tastes have really changed recently. Ever since I have read the Jim Henson biography, I now have a hunger for fantasy and biographies. I am also in the mood to read the biography Mary Poppins She Wrote, Saint's Blood, which is the 3rd book in the Gentleman Greatcoats series by Sebastien De Castell, and the Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. Happy reading.
Oh, and since you really like languages, while I was reading the Crazy Rich Asians book, I noticed that the author includes several phrases and words in Chunes and other dialects. I think that you might like that.
Interesing what you said that reading a good book can change your opinion about the book read previously. I experienced that as well. Although I do feel it is unfair to an earlier read: i liked that book when i was reading it! Do you actually change star rating?
I do sometimes. I don't think it's unfair because like with movies, a story can grow on you. When you read it/watch it, you might feel overwhelmed, but once it settles a few days later and you've got a chance to think it over, your view on the story might have changed :) I rarely change my ratings, though - but it happens...
Hi Helene , I missed your vlogs and books reviews . Could you tell me how to overcome the difficulty of the vocabulary if the SL learner faces during his / her reading an English book ? I tried to use an electronic dictionary , but it slows me during my reading .
Hi, That's a good question. If you want quick access to a dictionary while reading, I recommend reading on an e-reader where you can highlight the word and see the definition immediately (for instance a Kindle) . However, I usually tell my students that to begin with, when reading a book in a foreign language, you won't understand all words - but you don't need to understand all words in order to get the meaning. Just keep reading, and you'll see the more you read, the more you learn and the less you'll have to wonder :)
Don't let All the Pretty Horses ruin Cormac McCarthy for you. His books are all very different and some are definitely better than others. I would suggest trying The Road by him.
This is just a tip for keeping your cat safe: don't encourage him to play with plastic bags, it's easy for cats to get suffocated this way, expecially if he plays with one while you're not watching. You can buy special "cat tunnels" for this type of play.
Thanks! I am aware of plastic bags not being the best for him, and so far I've only allowed for him to go into one while I'm there (and just for a couple of seconds). But I think your advice is right and I'll stop doing it in the future. He also likes to crawl into boxes, towels and bed linens which is much safer :)
I’ve been in a horrible slump for months now! In the meantime, I binge your channel. Even videos I’ve already watched. Love you Helene!
I’m so glad I’m not the only person that smells their books as they unbox them 😂
I’m loving this July galore of yours! Thank you! :) (btw you look amazing without makeup ;))
YAYYYYY!!! I'm so happy for daily videos! I just love your content and your smart and charming book recommendations! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! :)
Love your vlogs❤️Funny I never get tired of watching you make yourself a mug of coffee. Somehow it's so therapeutic to watch.
Haha that's great to know :D I actually feel the same way watching other people make coffee ;)
Zeus loves book mail too!! Thank you for the vlog! I can't wait for tomorrow's video!
Yes, but only the interesting boxes and bags - not the books so much ;)
Helene I loved this vlog, so good ! I just ordered educated on my kindle so I can read it while I'm away . You are delightful to listen too! Thankyou so much
You're very welcome! Enjoy "Educated" (as much as such a book can be enjoyed) :)
This was so good! I’m so Glad you’re filming every day!
Also you have such a lovely cozy life. It makes me so happy
Thanks! I'm enjoying filming every day (so far...) :P
Nice reading vlog! I use to choose my coffee/tea mug depend on what I'm reading. I have too many mugs related with books.
Definitely going to get The Idiot

So glad to hear your review on The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock! I've also been putting it off, but now will start on it ASAP 😁

lol so many mugs. You're cat is so cute and funny.
I really like how you have your coffee mugs in your window. They are esteticly pleasing. Lol. Blessings Michelle

I completely understand :)
I loved The Mermaid & Mrs Gower 💕
hello....love your videos and your vlogs!!keep em coming!!!!😁
Thanks! I will :)
Wow! You finished a lot of books in this vlog. Very impressive.
Have you read S. by j j Abrams often mentioned along the same lines of house of leaves ..? Love this video 😍
Wonderful, wonderful!!!!
Lovely comment! :P
Love your videos and seeing Zeus! How far do you live from Copenhagen?
I'm an American who can't read Cormac McCarthy. I agree with your assessment of his writing.
Phew! At least I didn't make one American furious, then :P

Don't you use your kindle anymore? Lovely wrap up!
Not nearly enough, but I'm actually going to use it for a video I'm doing tomorrow :)
My kindle made me read so much hehe, since im a broke as hell.
Educated is a book that will really stick with you!
It did! I finished it a few days ago and loved it...
How is it possible to give half stars on Goodreads?
gemstash You can’t! I just put a note in my review about the half stars..
Don't let All the Pretty Horses ruin Cormac McCarthy for you. His books are all very different and some are definitely better than others. I would suggest trying The Road by him.
katie reads I totally agree!!!
Good video, the idiot sounds good will have to pick it up :)
Allo! would you like todo a bookclub withme? Iam multilingual also now living in Ireland -find me if ye like Helene! ta!
