(Whispers: you forgot the whiskey in the last one)
Cough.
hey steve, do you ever try out viewer recipes ?
I too prefer to keep it simple... I take a glass and put whiskey in it , then drink!
Had an âOaxaca Old Fashionedâ at a bar in Sydney. Mezcal, Anejo Tequila, Agave Syrup and Bitters. One of the best drinks Iâve ever had.
A personal favorite :)
Wonderful drink. If you have some, try it with chocolate bitters . . . wow.
Try a Oaxacianite from Milk and Honey. Same thing youâve listed here, but add sweet vermouth. Look up the exact recipe for ratios, but itâs a great drink
I love it on a sunday morning. Best breakfast drink ever! I made one for my dad and uncle and they drank 3, because "you cant taste the alcohol". Hahaha
You get a nice earthy backbone if you use a cardamom bitters đ
Love this. Been making my riff on a Boulevardier for a while with 1 oz high proof bourbon/whiskey, 3/4 oz Campari, 3/4 oz sweet vermouth, and 3/4 oz Cointreau. Delish nightcap.
I love how each glass had its own distinct sound when mixing!
Glad you're back and hope you're doing well! I love the stir down drink format as someone who looks for ways to drink simple at home with my wife. Much love to you and yours!
Nightcap we enjoy is 1 part single malt scotch to 1/2 part D.O.M. Itâs minty and refreshing at the same time.
Old Fashioned and Negroni variations are my usual go to's. I also want to do more amaro forward stuff. I made an M&M recently and absolutely loved it
Love a Mi-To, a great simple drink.
Beautifully simplistic- love this one. I tend to be lazy about garnishes and more often than not fly without- I just forget to buy or keep on hand. Not ideal, but I manage.
I made a freezer door negroni batch using a chocolate nibs infused Campari.
Absolutely delicious.
I just started drinking cocktails I learn how to do them myself and I add a little bit more from other friends love how you describe the cocktails very great content and presentation
the Mezaletti looks amazing!
I like this style of video: showing us the template and thought process between swapping ingredients for variations đ one âNegroniâ variation I like is Kingston. Negroni with Appleton 12 with a 1/4 ounce of banana liquor. Going to try one with coconut oil washed Campari soon.
I'm looking forward to trying these. I have gravitated to a similar nightcap to the Banana Boulevardier. It's a typical equal-parts recipe, but I sub out 1/3 of the Campari with Gran Classico and 1/3 of the Vermouth with PX Sherry.
Yes. Great easy cocktail. Just pour and relax
Greetings from Istanbul. Your recipes really nice and simple thanks :)
Nice job, Steve. I like the simplicity of these three cocktails. Now I just need to find two friends.
The banana boulevardies sounds great, have to give it a try. I happen to have the same bourbon and banana liqueur as well. I don't really do night caps, but I might enjoy it for lunch on a free day đ
I like my boulevadier with 1.5 oz of burbon, .75oz of campari and .75 of vermouth
Makes it burbon forward without having to go high abv. I make the negroni the same way
Yes! These are the specs I use as well
Just tried the first two... Only had amaro averna, but turned out pretty tasty. Butter and sweet with a smoky nose and finish. But i think i prefer the first. I need a little butter to balance the sweet. Great video, keep em coming
Thanks a lot with this video, I learned a lot, I did the mezcal, amaro and dash of orange bitter, it was good but then I did the same but with tequila instead of mezcal well, it was better for me
Awesome, also bought your book finally
STEVE!!! Another great nightcap imo is the Rusty Nail. Simple to make and easy to drink!!! Love 'em!!!
Malort and elderflower tonic
Aperol and Frangelico
Bison grass vodka, kirschwasser, and Underberg/Jaegermeister
I usually do a chilled montenegro going to try it tonight with mezcal sounds good.
Godfather is a great nightcap as well: 2 oz scotch and 1 oz amaretto (you can adjust amaretto to desired sweetness). Iâve heard of a 1:1 ratio and 4:1 ratio, but I like 2:1 for a proper digestivo
Always a great video. I have learned a lot. I like to substitute Aperol for Campari. Do an Aperol video.
A negroni inspired nightcap I made recently was equal parts Irish Whiskey, Mr Black Amaro, and Rochester Old Jamaican Dark Ginger "Wine" (though I dont know how internationally available that last one is). I mixed it in a stirring glass and smoked it for fun.
It was really tasty, like a spiced Irish Coffee.
Very cool recipes đđđ
Glad youâre back man hope youâre in good health cheers đ„
Thanks JSH!
I like the idea of a coffee liqueur in a Boulevardier
me too, I'll be trying this soon!
So good.
Might try the banana Boulevardier with a higher proof rum subbed for bourbon as a Kingston Negroni riff.
My personal favourites are 1) Sable, 2) Right Hand, I think this would be good with half oz of banana liqueur added, 3) Oaxaca Old Fashioned
Old Fashioned nightcap for me ....every night! đ
A classic for a reason. Always good đ
I love a Boulevardier with chocolate bitters (or with rum instead of whiskey + chocolate bitters). Left hand, Right hand
Preferred Nightcap is the Dark Knightcap (from a Batman themed cocktail book I have). 1.5 oz blended scotch, 1 oz averna amaro, 2 dashes of ango. Topped with club soda and a lemon swath.
Itâs a black Manhattan for me, Steve. Similar build to the Mezcaletti but with 60ml bourbon and 30ml Averna Amaro and some angostura AND orange bitters. Gonna give that Banana Boulevardier a try tonight thoughâŠ
Large ice cube - small stirring spoon!
Love this one Steve! Was a great way to showcase the "Mr Potato* Head way of cresting cocktails!
My pick is a mezcal safecracker - 1.5 oz mezcal, 1 Oz Campari, and 0.5 Oz ancho reyes chili liqueur.
The MiTo is such an unfancy yet still so nice tasting drink. For even easier/lighter drinking adding 1oz of water to make it an Americano is recommended too imho.
Best nightcap for me is still a cold fashioned.
1oz rye whiskey, 1oz sweet coffee liquor (kaluah is my fav. choice) and 2 dashes of angostura bitter. stir over ice.
Edit: Any good smokey whiskey will do fine, but a rye is best.
Great video Steve -- You're the streamer who got me into classic cocktails, so thanks-- I'll definitely use these templates. Also, thanks for calling out Patrician's bitters--
Crazy I learned about Patrician's bitters from a guy in Australia, only to find he lives like 30 min from me. :-D.
Peterâs bitters are excellent.. I especially love is Coffee Pecan bitters!
Nice. Similar template to something like a rusty nail.
Great video. I'm thinking you'll need to up your game in the sweet vermouth haha. Cocchi is an amazing option.
Cocchi is great. Nothing wrong with Martini though. I had the small bottle of Martini on hand from another video and I donât want to have multiple bottles of open vermouth.
All I taste in Martini is oregano. Itâs a real turn off for me for my cocktails.
Nightcap is seasonal cold weather i prefer stiffer warming spiced driven, hot weather sitting outside preferences go to citrus, bittersweet, lighter sippers.
I'm surprised a B&B wasn't made. That's my usual nightcap I go to
My go to nightcaps lately have been a Godfather or a Coffee Negroni. Going to try the Mezcaletti tonight with Montenegro
Good choices! FYI - mezcal and Montenegro = M&M đ
BANANA BOULEVARDIER , sort of made one didn't have any Campari, used instead Aperol. It was nice. Need to try with Campari to see the difference. Cheers/Salud.
My preferred has similar proportions to the Banana Boulevardier but using Ancho Reyes instead for a little spicy nightcap. Cheers!
Nice and spicy!
Hi Steve, no email received this week but pleased to see this post. The Banana Bouly looks good, though I might sub my home made Creme de Cassis for the Banana.
The Mezcaletti looks short of an ingredient, 15ml dry Curaçao might add something, the Milano Torino needs gin to become a Negroni, the perfect nightcap!
Nick from York
I broke my laptop so I couldnât write the newsletter and is also the reason the video was a few days late.. đ
This is a lot more work than I'd ever put into a nightcap đ
Yeah. I normally just drink straight from the bottle.
Hey Steve, I absolutely love negronis and was wondering if there were any issues with mixing the 3 ingredients in a bottle to have quick access to this drink. Does it make a difference if they are mixed on the spot vs doing this?
Milano-Torino (or Mi-To) Is a standard here in north Italy, I could suggest to try a different Vermouth than Martini, also classic Red Martini canonically is no longer a "Vermouth" cause the recipe was changed. I love using Punt-e-Mes in my Mi-To, a very good vermouth with stronger bitter fragrance but also Carpano or Cocchi are very good choice! Love your videos hope you all the good!
I've tried a handful of vermouths but I wish I had access to more.. I try and only keep one open at a time and Martini just happens to be the one I have open currently... cocchi di torino is next to be opened. Why is Martini not classified as a "vermouth"? They still market it as a "sweet vermouth" on their website.
@@StevetheBartender_ it was the Turin company itself that took itself out of the game in 2023. The new recipe of the, in fact, has led to a lowering of the alcohol content, now at 14.4%. Technically, to be considered vermouth, a wine must have an alcohol content of at least 15.5%. Martini now, according to the statements of the managing director of Martini & Rossi, prefers to be defined as an aromatized wine. I will gladly try to send you some Bottles for free if you give me an Address in PM, I love your work it inspired me and helped me to take on a second casual job as a bartender!
The occasional nightcap sees me mixing rye or just some decent regular whiskey and ginger ale.
Good video
I do need the BANANA BOULEVARDIER in my life. We make a banana foster rum down here wonder how it would taste in the drink? Also my night cap is a glass of cognac
FINALLY a good use for that banana liquor I forgot why I bought!
Great options for a nightcap! I'm not a fan of Campari (it's far too bitter for my taste). I've had a Boulevardier, which I liked more than the Negroni (but not by much), so I'm curious how the banana liqueur would change the taste. I love mezcal so I'm definitely going to try the Mezcaletti. I think I'll pass on the Milano-Torino.
Great vid! Cheers from Maryland USA!
If you liked the Boulevardier then the Banana Boulevardier might be up your alley⊠cutting the Campari in half and adding the banana liqueur will make it more approachable đ
My favorite negroni riff is simply adding a couple dashes of chocolate bitters.
Chocolate Bitters makes everything -bitter- ... I mean better. :) I like it in an old fashioned.
Try a vary of boulevadrier with equal parts campari, sweet vermouth and Southern comfort with a splash of orange and thank me later
Mezcal, Cynar and vermouth. I think. Was a long evening
I'm having a Rum Old Fashioned
Coffee liquor in a nightcap?
Iâd call Campari and Vermouth an Americano⊠but I donât seem to share the majority opinion on that.
I know that some people will throw a splash of soda water in their Americanos⊠some will completely drown it in soda water (disgusting)⊠but for me, Vermouth and Campari is âtheâ Americano.
I know Wikipedia gives a different origin story, but the origin story that Iâm familiar with is that Italians drink Amaro, which is too strong for Americans, and in the typical European fashion of naming things Americano because itâs watered down for American tastes, if you water down your Amaro with Vermouth, you get the Americano. But Iâm no mixological historian.
Isnt campari + sweet vermouth actually called Americano?
If it has soda water, yes.
Nightcaps? Old Fashioned variants, Black Russian, Dark n Stormys
Why lemon on a mezcal drink that had orange bitters?
I was following the original recipe but I do feel like lemon works very well with rye whiskey or mezcal.. in saying that, compare it and would love to hear your preference.
@@StevetheBartender_ love lemon with rye and mezcal and scotch, just found it odd. Orange made it more subtle and a bit smoother. Not as bright.
i think to think that is a normal size long barspoon and Steve is just so hench , that it looks tiny.
đđđ
heheh love your stuff my dude... but the 3 stirs... hehehe a bit much... ;-)
The 3 stirs..?
Big opportunity missed to stir all three at once. Big dissapoint
For the love of god people, please use a nicer vermouth. It makes such a huge difference.
My favourite types of cocktail!
Best Banana boulevardier
JDSBBP (banana runts note)
Banana peel infused sweet vermouth
Coconut fat washed Campari xocolatl mole bitters
