Hard to get in South Africa but my copy should be coming through end of the month đđŸđ„
@@JediRavz86 wow, thank you! Thatâs the first copy Iâve heard making it to South Africa! đ
I can just tell he loves the enzoni hee cant stop smiling even before tasting it.
Nice little "cheat-code" for the Penicillin:
Muddle some (3-4 slices) fresh ginger in the shaker with the honey syrup before adding the rest and shake. :)
Works like a charm.
I love a Vieux Carre. I need to pull the trigger and get a bottle of Benedictine so I can make it.
My 3 favorite cocktails as of now probably are:
-Negroni
-Rusty Nail
-Painkiller
The Old Fashioned is in a category all in its own and will forever be my go-to cocktail, however.
Congratulations on your book sales milestone Steve!!đŻđ„
Cheers Keith!!
I can vouch for the Enzoni. I'm not a Campari drinker by any stretch, I find even a well made Negroni to be a challenging taste, but I'd down a couple Enzoni 's in one sitting, no problem. It may be a riff on a classic, but for me, it should be a classic in its own right. Any drink that can make a marmite ingredient like Campari palatable deserves respect.
Haha, Iâd class it as a modern classic for sure!
I remember when you recorded the Enzoni for the first time. Epic cocktail!
I still mix it up on occasion.
That video really took off - people loved it! đ
"durr stop talking so mu-"
Nah, we like to hear Steve's thoughts and recommendations!
Like the Enzoni, haven't tried the other two. Look forward to doing so. Cheers!
It always makes me laugh when you smile while shaking, cause that's like a mandatory thing to do when you work in a bar. "Shake that espresso martini with a smile on ya face, mate"
I used to work at an American/New Orleans/creole venue in Melbourne, gave me love for a classic Vieux carré and you did it justice!
Thank you sir!! Such a good drink... anything with Benedictine is a winner for me!
The Vieux Carré is in my top 3 also. No.1 among stirred cocktails for me and made almost identical to yours, only with 3/4oz sweet vermouth & served up like a Manhattan & a Luxardo cherry to go with that lemon twist. A great riff is a PrÚs Du Quai made the same way as my Vieux Carré and subbing in Aged Jamaican rum along with Bourbon or American whiskey in place of the Cognac & Rye.
You're looking and sounding much. You seem to be feeling better as well. So glad to see you on the mend. Cheers.
Yea, doing much better.. feeling spritely now!
Congrats! I use your book all the time. Just finally made an East 8 Hold Up and me my family LOVE it!! Keep up the great work, but always put your health first!
East 8 would have to be my favourite vodka cocktail⊠or maybe the Caipiroska.. đ€
Steveâs book is an excellent guide to making classic cocktails with clear, concise instructions. I highly recommend it!
Thanks so much Daniel! đ
P.s please leave a review if you havenât already - it makes a huge impact!
I'm glad you mentioned there are better sweet vermouth choices out there, and you were just using what you had on hand.
I still donât mind using martini sweet vermouth for some drinks.
Three classics that are classic for a reason. The Enzoni was the first Campari cocktail that I actually enjoyed. Now, I'm a huge fan of amari and aperitivi in cocktails.
3 Bangas there! Cheers Steve.
Thanks James! What is your fav cocktail??
@@StevetheBartender_ I'd say my all time favourite is a Negroni . That Vieux Carre looks like a ripper !
Just recently been making a penicillin and I like the variety with not only shaking the Laphroaig with the rest but also using a muddled piece of fresh ginger instead of the syrup the most .
Congrats Steve! đ
Again, love your content. I make a lot of Whisky Sours, itâs probably my go to drink when Iâm not sure what to make. Lately Iâve been making a âsneak versionâ of a Penicillin, by simply adding about half an ounce of Ginger Beer to the drink (straight in the glass). It also âimproves the foamâ as I always make my Whisky Sours with egg white. đđ„ I often have ginger beer at home, as I use it for other drinks I like, such as Dark n Stormy.
Much love and respect from Sweden - wish you all the best! đđđ»â€ïž
Enzoni is my favorite cokctail since about four years. Highly recommended!
Yes, yes and YES!! Penicillin is hands down my favorite....La Lousiane is a close second
Have your book and these are my favorites too!
Thanks for picking up a copy! đ
STEVE!!! Great video!!! I knew you liked Campari and DOM, but I did NOT see the Penicillin coming!!! Thanks for introducing me to Campari, which is my fav of all time!!! SLAINTE!!!!
Congrats on your book đđžđč
Solid top 3 Steve. I also enjoy my Vieux Carre strianed over a large cube rather than up as they are usually served. Great video....cheers.
Love these drinks, love this video! đ
Thank you Dan! What are your top 3??
Great video. Good to see you shaking again! Nice collection of drinks. Thanks for the education on how to make disliked ingredients more palatable. In my cocktail journey Iâve been able to overcome my prejudices towards several spiritsâŠ.and am blessed for doing so. Sometimes ya just gotta get over yourself to discover a whole new avenue of delights. Itâs become a passion to assist others in their adventures. Keep up the great work!
You have great taste, sir. Amazingđ I love it thank you for sharing your great video my friendđ€
Great video. Thanks Steve.
Cheers Tom!
Hi steve good to have you back! Enzoni is also one of my favourite and tried it today as Enzoni Sbagliato and it works just perfect. All the best Markus
I love the enzoni
Hey steve, love the enzoni. Could u make a video on saline solution for cocktails ?
The VC is my faaaave cocktail!
You have terrific taste, sir. Thank you for another great video.
Thank you kindly!
Glad to hear the news about your book! I got mine day one, and recommend it. Now letâs shoot for 2 million! Congrats!
Cheers Rodney! 2 million sales!? Phwoar!! That would be insane. P.s can you leave a book review? It makes a big impact! đ
Now I'm wanting these...but it's only 2pm heređ€Ł
STEVE!! Have you tried a Negroni Torbato?? Equal measures- Laphroaig, Aperol and Cynar. One of the best cocktails EVER!!!
Come for the cocktails, stay for the shaker smile. Cheers Steve, hope youâre doing well my friend
Thanks, you too!
Beautiful choice, mate!
Thank you!
Hope you are feeling better? Got the Book off of Amazon UK and since brought it for a couple of friends birthday..Really helpful Book with loads of decent Cocktails.Thank Steve
Thanks Mike! Feeling good!!
Love all three of those drinks.
What are your all time top 3 Carl?
Vieux Carré is my favourite from that list! such a nice complex drink!
It really is!
My first exposure to Benedictine was when I made Anders' Sentimental Gentlemen. I loved it, and I'm excited to try it in a new cocktail. Thanks for sharing.
Youâre welcome Joshua! Iâm keen to try the Sentimental Gentleman⊠enjoy the Vieux Carre!
Hey Steve. Congrats on 20K sold. Enjoying mine. In fact, watching this now makes me want a sparkling French đž. Might just indulge. Itâs 11:41 am. But 5 pm somewhere đ. Campari gives a drink a gorgeous color indeed. Will try any cocktail as long as thereâs a hint of sweet. Thanks for sharing đčđžđ„đ€
Wow, Enzoni has been one of my go-to cocktails since Steve introduced me to it on this channel, likewise with Penicillin. I take it this means I have to invest in Benedictine to try the Vieux Carré - if it's a favourite to Steve I'm sure I will love it as well!
Gotta try the Enzoni!
Itâs a must try!
These are all great. My favorite in that list is the Enzoni. It Just does it for me.
Winner for sure đ
I found out about the enzoni in a vid you did quite a while back, absolute banger of a cocktail. Unfortunately I don't make it very often, mostly because of the mess it makes in my shaker.
I love, love, love the Penicillin, it's the best cocktail in the world. My first ever cocktail was the Bobby Burns and I loved it too so the Vieux CarrĂ© is a riff on that one and I like it. Now the Enzoni I never tried and it never really tempted me when you've done it before but given that you like it so much and you paired it with these other two amazing drinks I'll have to try it. Thanks Steve for such excellent drinks again and cheers đ„
Most welcome! Let me know how it goes, if you try the Enzoni!
Love these cocktails. I learned about the Enzoni from your channel and love making it when I have grapes on hand.
Also, you should try a Medicina Latina, it's like a Penecillin but with tequila and mezcal.
Iâve been meaning to make the Medicina Latina - itâs on my list!
I've convinced myself I hate Campari, but I might give the Enzoni a try!
My top 3 in no particular order are:
- Painkiller
- Saturn
- Old Fashioned (boring I know, but it's a classic for a reason and I love bourbon)
I want to be able to make better drinks. So with your book Iâm hoping they will become better. Not for parties; but for my own enjoyment. (Maybe a few friends when visiting)â€
Great cocktails, not sure I could pick my 3 all time favourites.
But if you had to
@@StevetheBartender_ well penicillin in winter. Aviation in summer.
Congratulations on your book sales milestone, Steve!đđđœ I have your book and I enjoy it very much! Quick question..For Vieux Carre', would it be Ok to skip the Peychaud's bitters or would it make the drink much more flavorful? Thanks!
Thank you đ it would still make a good drink the Peychaudâs is an important component and it wouldnât be a Vieux Carre without it.
One sweet vermouth open at the same time is definitely a challenge.
I know! I normally have 2-3⊠so Iâm trying to change my ways!
The Enzoni sounds interesting. Ive never tasted Campari, but I do enjoy bitter things. Maybe Iâll buy a bottle đ€
Yeees! If you enjoy bitter things then youâll love Campari and the Enzoni!
Hi Steve, of these, I love the Vieux Carre and had one last night. The Enzoni is very nice too.
No5 so keen on making the Penicillin, I use Kingâs Ginger liqueur rather than a syrup and make honey syrup in my jigger as and when I need it.
Have you mended your laptop or got a new one yet?
Nick from York
Got that Fortaleza in the back. Man of good taste
Lol, thank you.. itâs tasty stuff.
That's a great list vieux carré is also in my top 5 I think, but I'd put the Sazerac on top of it
My top 3 (itâs actually 5):
1. Rum & Coke* - with flavorful gold, dark, or spiced rum such as Havana Club 7, Ron de Barrilito 3-Star, Zaya, Bambu, Real McCoy 5 Year, Sailor Jerryâs, Kraken Gold Spice Rum, Goslingâs Gold Seal RumâŠand many more at various price points. *It has to be regular Coca-ColaâŠother colas, such as Pepsi or diet cola, just doesnât cut it! And, the amount of rum should be 2 oz, vice 1.5 oz. I often mix 2-3 rums together to get a unique blend.
2. Itâs a tie! Daiquiri and Margarita. Fresh lime juice is a must! For the Daiquiri, Plantation 3 Star Rum, Real McCoy 3 Year, Havana Club 3 Year, Cruzan Light Rum. For the Margarita, the tequila: Tres Generaciones Reposado, Teremana Blanco or Reposado, Espolon Blanco or Reposado, Herradura Blanco or Reposado, Corazon Blanco, and Cazadores Blanco are all fantastic choices. For the triple sec/orange liqueur, I prefer Grand MarnierâŠand, yes, I add a bit of simple syrup or agave nectar to my margaritas, and, either no salt on the rim or salt just half of it.
3. 3-way tie, sort of-they are all very similar. Baileyâs White Russian, a Mudslide, and the Bushwacker.
We have similar taste in drinks
I think I got copy No. 19,897 of your Book đVieux CarrĂ© also in my Top 10; but a Sazarec is even higher rated for me đ, Penicillin of course also on my list (espacially using some fresh ginger instead of syrup) - still have to try the Engroni. Next weekend. Had a Dead man's handle from your book on Monday to celebrate first day of vacations; had to have two more. Smashing! Now Chili salt is standard stock in my bar. Loved to hear you "Prost" to us đđ
Starting with the Vieux, I knew I'd love this list! What's not to like???
I love how similar your palette is to mine. All you need to add to this list to round out mine would be a Syn Sin (a cynar scotch cocktail):)
BTW, I'd support your gin if it came over here to Canada:)
@stevethenartender since you are a lover of the VC wondering if you have tried the Louissiane? Essentially a mash up of VC and Sazerac.
Not yet but Iâve been meaning too! Itâll be on the channel soon :)
Waiiit these are MY theee favorites! Each of them so different, so complex and SO GOOD! Canât love this enough â€â€â€
whatâs a good alternate to compari, that doesnât use FD&C red40 as colorant?
Cosmopolitan, Tequila sunrise, LIT
Your channel inspired me to make Painkiller's at my bar! Is the recipe for Painkiller in the book? đ
Certainly is! Page 223 đ
Steve what happens to the drinks once you make them? Like once you've tried them for the video, do you just throw them away?
(Love your content btw!)
Previously I would drink them but nowadays I donât.
With the Penicillin, if I don't have an Islay or Peated whisky, would a smoky mezcal float work or would that be too dominant?
I would definitely try that!
Anyone know where to get Liber & Co syrups in Australia?
Hi! In one of Steve's more recent videos he talks about the best straws to purchase. I can't remember which video it was since I watched it on my telly vs my Mac so I have no record of vids watched. Anybody remember?
Surfsidesips.com - I love them! Use STB20 for 20% off đ
at the end of building the Enzoni @4:23 you say the cocktail could benefit from a little dash of... what was that?
Saline solution.
Saline solution (80% water, 20% salt). It subdues the bitterness and enhances the fruity notes.
whisky Wednesday!!
pro tip from a new orleanian, we pronounce "vieux" more closely as "view." (it technically ends in a muted "uh" sound but we're all lazy about it lol.) ieu and ieux = "yooh", while eau and eaux = "oh". in any case, however you pronounce them, nice faves! :)
also, "peychauds" = "pay-shows" :)
Thanks David. I mispronounce things all the time. I noticed it watching the finale edit too but it was too late.. Iâve even noted this in the pinned comment⊠but thanks for clarifying Peychaudâs đ
@@StevetheBartender_ it's all good -- what matters most is how it tastes, right? :)
@@davidautinify exactly! đ
I'm sorry Steve, but to call a Martini a vermouth is an understatement. At the moment, it's a pathetic semblance. And yes, Enzoni is my favorite).
With Chartreuse Day coming up (May 16, neeâŠ1605)âŠshall we expect an eps featuring your fav cocktails using the elixir of the Gods?
Here criminally early!
You're fast!
I really want to try the Vieux Carre, but am missing one ingredient. It's quite an expense to fork our $80 for a bottle of benedictine when you only need 7.5ml for the recipe. Presumably it is an essential ingredient, however. What are your thoughts, Steve, on the difference it would make to the drink if made without the benedictine?
Itâs one of my favourite liqueurs so Iâd always recommend grabbing a bottle. The fact that it only needs 7.5ml is a good thing because then you can make 93 of them before running out! đ
You can also use it in a Singapore Sling and the Monte Carlo.
Not sure why you donât use muddled fresh ginger rather than syrup, so much better.
OG recipe. Works fine but muddled ginger is an option.
In the event that there are infinite universes I can say that I would hate Campari in all of them...
Haha, did you happen to watch my video â3 Campari cocktails for people that hate Campariâ.. if not, you should try all 3 and then you can officially say you hate Campari đđđ
Steve are you shutting down your app? I have tried to use it all day with no success.
Definitely not shutting it down.. I just received an email noting that it was crashing? Same with you? Can you email / DM me so I can troubleshoot..?
Android or iOS?
All fixed - thanks again for the heads up.
All these stirred drinks! I was waiting to see the shake and smile!
Lol, 2/3 of them were shaken đ
Whatâs Campari?
Campari is a red bitter Italian liqueur.
Thatâs an excellent lineup. One small thing (captain pedantic over here), Cocchi is pronounced âcoke-yâ. I was fortunate enough to attend a Cocchi vermouth tasting hosted by a member of the family which is where I learned that.
Yeah, I know but I inadvertently reverted to my native British-English pronunciation. I even mentioned this in the pinned comment.
a little dash of cyanide?? đ
Saline solution đ
Congrats! The Vieux Carre is definitely one of my top cocktails.
What would you say your top 3 are?
@@StevetheBartender_ Old Fashioned, Vieux Carre and Death & Taxes. Or maybe a dry Martini.
Iâve never had a Death & Taxes - now on my list tho!
YESSSSSSS!!!! 8TH in!! I'm a genius!!!
