  • With Mauricio Pochettino as the new manager of Chelsea, the Argentine tactician is inheriting a very interesting squad. Lacking a true centre forward but blessed with some of the best attacking midfielders, creative full backs and a whole host of talented youngsters, Pochettino’s best eleven is far from clear but there is promise. So today, Statman Dave takes a look at the possible lineups, tactics and transfers that Pochettino could use ahead of the 23/24 Premier League…

    Tactically I think a back 3 will be best either in a 3-5-2 with the strikers sitting on the pivots in bigger games against teams like city who play in a 3-2-5, however having only one set of wide players does mean a lot of star players will have to be benched which isn't ideal, so in my opinion the 3-4-3 with nkunku as a false 9 and the wingers playing narrowly as inside forwards forming a box with the pivots and being ready to run into space created by nkunku, with the wing backs stretching the pitch. A system like this fits chelsea, as there is a lot of talent at centre back, caicedo and enzo might be the best midfield partnership in the league. Also, playing nkunku as a false 9 who can really thrive there solves the problem of not having a traditional 20+ goal superstar striker, also utilizing sterling, madueke mudryk and even jackson who can play as a wider forward. Chelsea have had success with a back 3 even after Tuchel as Potter had initially some success with it although playing sterling and pulisic as wing backs and cucurella as a cb wasn't exactly sustainable

      I don't mind some of these ideas, think we might be a bit thin at CB with Fofana and Colwill injury prone and Koulibaly out and maybe Chalobah on the way out, plus Silva getting on to play 3 at the back too often. But wouldn't mind 4 at the back out of possession, then Colwill or James pushing into base of midfield in possession. Caicedo is underrated at how dangerous he is going forward, not as a goal creator, just progressing/carrying the ball.
      My only thing is a traditional 3 at the back with WB's, I can't watch that boring style of football anymore, doesn't work in modern game. As good as our WB's are, both RJ and Chilwell can't stay fit, but think both RJ and Hall could be very successful inverted.

      Back 3 or Back 4 offensively it's basically the same 5 players in the final third then 3 at the back and 2 in the middle or in some systems 2 at the back and 3 in the middle (something that is seen less and less). Also what do you mean by a traditional back 3? Was Tuchel's not traditional for example? Or Inzaghi's? Saying a back 3 doesn't work just isn't true

    • @granth1238
      @granth1238 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@monoapoel234 Well it is true, back 3 with WB's doesn't work, Tuchel made it work in one UCL run with Chelsea because he's a good knockout manager, but they were pretty terrible in the league and struggled to score, which is same for Inter. Tuchel hasn't used it at Bayern even with great WB's in Cancelo and Davies, and De Ligt, Upamecano and Pavard at CB. Now Pavard wants to leave because he isn't being used at CB, so they definitely have the system for 3 at the back.
      Again Inzaghi is a knockout manager specialist, struggled in the league, only managed to qualify for UCL next season cos Juve got points deduction and Milan bottled it. Both were nowhere near Lazio or Napoli in terms of playing quality football.
      There's a reason why nobody in Prem uses that system, outside of Conte and we know how that turned out.

      @@granth1238he won the league in his first season? Then an Fa cup in the second? 😂😂 (talking about conte) You're making an extreme generalization and still you're factually wrong about each separate thing you are generalizing. Chelsea were not horrible in the league they were the best team behind city after Tuchel's arrival and change to A BACK 3 a city which they beat in multiple occasions cup, league, UCL and were only slightly worse statistically in the league due to bad finishing not lack of creativity. Inzaghi's inter outperformed city with darmian at cb and probably should have won the final, while still managing second place in the league behind the best Napoli since Maradona with much more quality. There is a vast variety of back 3 systems, that's why what you're saying is a generalization, many managers many teams have success with it and a back 3 doesn't mean big Sam anti-football. You're also straight up underappreciating what Tuchel achieved. He didn't manage one good UCL run. He won the whole thing. With a team that when he arrived was mid table unable to defend or attack and he won the biggest trophy in all of football in the same season, the same one that Pep needed a Billion pounds, 7 years and zero ffp accountability to win and was still fairly lucky in the final. And Tuchel isn't the only one Conte, Inzaghi, Mourinho just to name 3

  • @FPLExpression
    @FPLExpression Před 10 měsíci +21

    Drifting away from 3ATB might be the best approach for Poch, Chelsea have some great talent in the Midfield and utilizing them would be great.
    Carney/Casadei/Santos are players with huge potential, having an additional spot in the center of the field would help there progress.
    With 4-3-3 having two experienced Midfielders (Enzo&Caicedo) and one Youngster like Santos/Casadei/Carney in some games would suit them.
    But still 4-2-3-1 is a solid option and I think that’s what we’ll see next season.
    With a lot of departures I would like to see a transfer video for Chelsea. What players should Chelsea sign to replace the outgoings.

      Letting Havertz go was pure business, had a ready made replacement in Nkunku and a couple youngsters like Carney and madueke who can play that position and need developing. 65 million was too much to pass up for squad depth, not to mention Kai was unhappy at the club

    Respectfully I think a Back 3 is the worst formation to use when we have wingers who are adapt at wide play and holding the touchline.. Under Tuchel no wide forward actually developed from Pulisic, CHO, Ziyech etc and they were severely impacted by that shape even though it was successful for at least a season. Poch ought to rely on his trusted 4231 or 433 that will get the best out of everyone in the squad. We've catered too much to our "weakest" players ie Azpi, Jorginho now Silva who I adore but will not be here long term and stunting young players growth for him is backwards if you ask me. Collwill in a back for is amazing same goes for every CB at the club.

      It's really the best evidence of Poch's philosophy. He couldn't do much at PSG with Messi, Neymar & Mbappé and didn't have much at Southampton. I do expect Poch to evolve but a double pivot comprised of a ball winner & a creative controller with the width coming from attacking full backs will be key regardless of the system

      @@StatmanDaveClipsWhy did Chelsea buy Mudryk and Madueke when they have Chilwell (and Reece) who tend to provide the width? They had the opportunity to mold a young squad that can play similar to Arsenal and City.

    Theyll probably spend another 300 mil. Theyre gonna be terrible next season too much change. They might get better towards the end of the season, but i can see potch losing the dressing room.

    Chelsea have zero chance of winning anything without a central striker. Sterling needs to show consistency to earn a place in the starting line up.
