Despite some massive spending in the transfer market and a new manager in Mauricio Pochettino taking charge at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have made a slow start to the season with just one win in 4 games - coming against Luton.
After Chelsea's disastrous 22/23 season which seen them finish 12th - it hasn't been the immediate reaction that fans were hoping to see. Has Pochettino actually improved Chelsea since his arrival? Joe Devine and Jon Mackenzie take a look at the blues start to the season.

You guys are so good together that you should start some type of long-form podcast together to talk about football. Maybe bring in someone from Aberdeen and a mockney baby.
they should do a LotR podcast and talk about eagles! lol

Omg I’ve been dying to see joe Devine back on the channel please I’d love to see more. I love the top level analysis but we need some of his goofy charm here and there
I think the channel is really missing him in that respect. As much as i love it, sometimes John is deep into stats and my eyes glaze over. Joe brings an everymanness to this that i enjoy. Your man in the pub if you will.
JJ has a lot of similar energy to Joe but Jon is basically a joyful version of Seb

Joe Devine, you have been missed. Looking forward to your collab with videogamedunkey.

Great to have Joe back. Really missing the podcast - the replacement tactical vids aren't really hitting the spot, too dry and overly technical.
Disagree, I like the tactical vids!
@@gofannon1943tactical videos are fine, but the old podcast provided a very welcome change of tone.
yeah, I enjoy them for what they are, but if they canned the pod to make way for them, which was the suggestion - then I think it leaves a real hole in the output.
Agreed, I liked the dry technical vids were cool as an adjunct to the rest of the output. Now that they are the entirety of the output I can’t be at all arsed to listen. I honestly think it was a bad move on their part
@@rupeoverlay3153 - yeah, it's a high fibre diet. I don't think they are actually that great at communicating the tech stuff also, both JJ and Jon can lose themselves almost immediately in the finer detail of positioning and I find myself lost a lot of the time. Four Four Two do a better job at getting into the details without losing the bigger picture
Poch has definitely improved Chelsea. With such a young squad and key injuries, it will take time but the pieces are there and when it clicks, I think there will be a very good run of results that may catch people off guard if they aren’t paying attention.
Wow, an informed take. Respect.
Key injuries shouldn't matter when your depth chart is theoretically better than half the tables first team
Our main issues is scoring chances and not making so many defensive mistakes. Unfortunately these issues have been prevalent for a good few years, will be interesting to see if he can succeed here where others failed before him.
@@Pisschangoatsmellerthis is a common misconception. Team chemistry is an incredibly important factor in performance and dealing with injuries to key players has a big impact on it. Lower quality players with better chemistry will always put up a very good challenge to better quality players who aren't used to playing with each other.
@@Pisschangoatsmeller Have you actually seen the depth chart? Last game there were 5 players on the bench who could be considered for depth, the rest were GK (there were 2 of them on the bench) and youth. That's a misconception from the last season. And some of those players on the bench are out of form, just came into team. The rest are out injured - James, Fofana, Nkunku, Chuk, Lavia (fitness issues at the time, but now he is injured as well), Broja. If that's depth you are talking about...
It's so good to see Joe back! Another great video 🔥

Joe - I think you can see the people need you. We miss you. Even if you don’t like doing these videos any more, please do them anyway. The people have spoken!
Fernández is a strange one. At Benfica he had more licence to do final third stuff. In the second half of his season after moving to London, his key pass/pass into box rate dropped but he was still a world-leader at progression. In a short time this season playing in a mess of a team, his key pass, pass into final third and pass into box rates have skyrocketed, yet he's more progressive from deep than ever. He has more than half (17) as many passes into the area in four apps than he had in 17 for Benfica (31) already. He was a better tackler than overrated Caicedo last season too. But he still isn't much of a goal threat while shooting from 25yds on average.
That's why Gallagher really needs to be more advanced and allowed more licence to roam and harass opponents if a midfield two is used. Fernández is good enough to pull the strings from deeper. He just needs a team who will use space rather than this endless possession Tuchel nonsense, which he has done well enough in to his credit. If Caicedo starts in a 4231 then Fernández can push up more to support the four ahead of him, but it seems like five at the back 80% possession will be the norm at Chelsea until Nkunku returns 🙃
Well said
Why is Tuchel mentioned here? Fernandez obviously has not played under him and he is not their head coach. Neither is he really known for an intense posession based style.
You're spot on. Poch is being somewhat forced to play the way he has been due to the personnel available. I think Palmer's addition was critical as the stop-gap until Nkunku returns. Once he does, Palmer will be a great backup when more European football comes around. We have a very young squad, so I understand it will have its issues, especially so early on in the season. I'm not worried unlike most of Chelsea Twitter it seems.
Gallagher needs to be benched he can’t play in the pivot and he isn’t the better advanced option btl than Palmer he’s more of a runner in the box which we don’t need, caicedo also isn’t overrated Lao statistically him Enzo and Rodri were the best midfielders in the league
@@Allschmoi because while Sarri and Lampard liked possession, they were more productive and vertical with it. Since Tuchel came in and set up with five and two holding mids, neither of whom were particularly penetrative with their passing, we've averaged more of the ball and less actual impact. Chelsea won their last two Premier League titles with an average of
Wow, these guys have great chemistry! They should do a podcast together
Poch needs to get another attacker on the pitch. Whether that means dropping Gallagher and moving Enzo back, or moving to 4-3-3 with Chilwell moved to a LB
said it on the head
Have you seen any analysis on why Gallagher actually plays?
I genuinely dont have the slightest idea what he actually contributes that leads to him playing so many minutes. Hes obviously not an attacking threat really, but he doesnt stand out as a defensive player either. You dont see him protecting the CBs, or breaking up transition plays, so what does he do?
@@2639theboss Seems ur view on him is stuck in last season. He's looked really impressive playing deeper in midfield this season. He's made far more tackles + interceptions than any other Chelsea player this season, infact over double the amount of Malo Gusto who is second AND been one of their most progressive players, even with Enzo taking pretty much the entire "progressive burden". Also, u calling a player that got 11 G/A just 2 years ago for Crystal Palace, meaning he was directly involved in almost 1/4 of their goals that season, "obviously not an attacking threat" makes u sound like u just don't like him.
He needs to drop Jackson. Terrible striker that kid is
I love the dynamic in this segment. One man talks absolute intelligent football and the other tells him to make bird noises.
Joe❤ love seeing you back!
This makes me want the old podcast back :(
Seeing Jon rep TSB is truly heartwarming stuff
We need more Joe Devine again like the good times
The channel hasnt been the same since the podcast ended. So glad to see those faces back together. Please reconsider the identity of this channel 🥺
Great analysis and video. Chelsea fans need to be patient and believe in the project. We are building something here but it's going to take some time. This season is about bringing the squad together and getting the style of play down.
The rest of the league want you to stay chaotic and entertaining
Only Chelsea can spend £1billion and be a small midtable club 😂😂😂
@@avikarsewpersad9856 that’s true but it’s about context. We obviously signed maybe younger players. We also signed a bunch last summer and let them go now. But it’s football there’s ups and downs.
@@Dakay22the context is that you’ve spent the GDP of a mid size industrial nation and are still mid table
It is what it is. Context on what the money was actually spent on is key. But it’s okay to ignore it if you chose that route. But no back pedaling if things get much better and Chelsea back to where they want to be.
I love y’all’s chemistry in this analysis lol, informative and fun to watch😂💯

Good break down by Jon and nice appearance from Joe ^^
I would like to see a compilation of Joe Devine's stares into the camera please.
Great great analysis and video.
Light hearted and entertaining from the host as well.
Come back bovine. Jon and JJ are great, but it's *their interaction with you* whilst they impart their knowledge that makes the channel great.
Great to see Joe back!
This was a nice taste of what we had with the pod 😪 RIP. Tifo hasn’t been half as good since ngl
A big appeal of entire tifo was Devine's personality. He should engage in it more often.
Joe Devine is back with his beautiful voice 😍😍
Thought the Tifo Football Show was back for a second and my heart almost stopped
Love the analysis, love joe and love john
Hello Joe devine It's been a while. Good to have you back.😊
JOE! Thank goodness you're back!
I think they’ve been hard done by by the results. Yes they’re under scoring like last year but other teams have been finishing above their xG which won’t happen over the course of the season. Def better and when Nkuku is back that should help even more.
But what about Joe?
Joe’s appearance is as much a surprise as my father returning after 6 years at the supermarket.
I knew it: Joe Devine is of Puerto Rican descent.
You guys forgot to include Romeo Lavia on the tactical board.
His main and only presence so far and for the foreseeable future is in the stands, not much to say tactically on him
Only Chelsea can spend 50m+ on a player who won't even make the bench for them 😂
So did poch lol
10:16 - I think "player relationships" are more than just "on-field relationship strength." If there's a camaraderie within the dressing room, where players actually go out with one another, have drinks or any extracurricular activity, you will have a much better performance on the pitch. It's almost necessary in order to have that chemistry. And as was said, when players are in and out all the time, it will definitely have a negative effect on players getting into a flow state with each other. I believe that's a big problem, and that goes directly to the sporting director (Lawrence Stuart and Paul Winstanley) as well as *Boehly and company* . Emphasis on the latter.
It's divine Joe's back!
Incredible t-shirt, the king 👑 truly is back baybeeeeeeeeee
Yay, Joe is back Let's go hasn't been the same without him.
I miss Chelsea playing 4-2-3-1
Great analysis
Great video, lads! Joe reminds me of big bird.
Would love to see the old school podcast come back in a monthly form. Would mean that Joe, Jon, JJ and Reuben could focus more on monthly trends and wouldn't have to be as urgently uploaded as the weekly format. I would also kill a man with my bare hands to get Joe back on the pod.
Yes this would be great
Genuinely don't know why they threw the pinder out with the bath water
Tifo must have realized the errors of their ways viz a viz Joe's didappearance. I'm guessing the youtube traffic analytics curve hasnt been looking too well. The podcast should've never been ended...it was easily the main driver of views and audience engagement.
Seeing Joe Devine on the thumbnail is such a clickbait and I’m all for it
Joe literally cannot behave himself for 15 minutes. Asks a few sensible questions then just has to try and stitch up his mate. Bravo Joe 👏
"make a bird noise" is what's been missing
wow more dunkey! Great collab :D
I don’t think there’s many managers who could do well when the player turnover is so high and team chemistry is so low
please bring back the podcast!!

Yaaaaaaaas joe on camera always great stuff
Welcome back Joe!!
More Joe!!!
Honestly. I’ve missed the pure charm and chaos of Joe. The tactical stuff and the new podcast is cool and all and JJ tries to up the energy but it’s all just a bit dry
Joe's Back!
Its Joe! Turn this content into a podcast!
You can tell Joe misses the old weekly podcast. His urge for silliness spilling into Goblin Kings dogged analysis
Big up the DUNKO reference, sir.
I think Poch has done the change in formation because of the injury to nkunku. Since he has been injured he switched to this system.
I’m thinking palmer is thought to be the nkunku replacement and perhaps we will go back to the previous system.
I legit thought Joe Devine left - so good to see Joe!!
if the other two find him a bit much, just do these 20 minute ones. MORE PLEASE!
Can you stop quoting stats 4 games into the season? We’ve played teams that don’t want the ball so of course we look good on paper, doesn’t change the fact that we can’t score goals consistently and this has been an issue since 2021.
Love the dunkey shirt
so do we get to see the tifo football show back😂
This was kind of what was said just a few games before Potter got sacked. We were outperforming on stats but the results never came. I think the same can be said even now. We are really good in midfield and defence but horrible in the two extremes of the pitch (Striker and Goalkeeper). That is why the underperformance compared to xG and xC. And I think we'll continue being this bad.
Joe’s back!!!
Just wait for Nkonku
Whilst others are celebrating the return of the divinely Joe I steadfastly contend that if time worked differently he wouldn't not be a badger
