  • With striker Nicolas Jackson misfiring, it's been a disastrous start to the season for Chelsea. But a look at the "underlying numbers" shows that this isn't just an average team missing a few chances, but one of the best teams in the Premier League on the cusp of having a great season.

    Reece and Nkunku alone are HUGE losses, let alone all the other injuries. As a Chelsea fan, I saw the great form in preseason and I believe in this project when the team is healthy. We just need stability in terms of coaching (don’t fire Poch!) and a healthier XI. The flux of managers, injuries, and new young players coming into the prem/the team will eventually stabilize 🙏🏿

    Most of these games where Chelsea lost by a goal or conceded a bad one, the criticism has never been that they were outplayed. It has always been that they failed to score. It's not a problem of Poch but all the three four managers before him. This was a problem for Thomas Tuchel as well but he was lucky to have players like James and Chilwell score. Chelsea have not had a good striker ever since Diego Costa and that is the biggest concern. It is just a matter of putting those goals in and then we would be having a very different conversation. It would be the same pundits who would then opine to say yes Chelsea are building something. Besides the guy has just had 6 games. Half his squad is injured. Give him damn time. Just because Todd went bollocks with money doesn't mean Chelsea has to win the PL in game week 6. Keep calm and trust the process.

    Finally! Great breakdown of what many of us Chelsea fans see. I think the media needs a headline, and it isn’t a sexy take to say we’re really good (no offense), we just can’t put the ball in the net. It’s easier and more dramatic to say we’ve spent a billion dollars and are still in 14th place, worse than last season.
    But for those of us who haven’t completely blocked last season from our minds, we are light years better now than we were then! We couldn’t break a team down, we were boring and unimaginative in build up, we couldn’t create high percentage chances, we were extremely predictable, our coach(es) somehow managed to constantly change formations yet fail to change the actual weak spots… and we couldn’t put the ball in the net!

My only concern with our team is sterling for me he’s lazy off the ball never see him pressing to win the ball back and he is far to greasy on the ball. Some might say he’s scores most of our goals but that’s because he wants individual glory rather than a team win villa showed that 2 on 1 with the keeper and instead of the side tap around the keeper for Jackson to slide it home he tried do it all alone. The starts are always slow and sometimes look like impending disasters but what has come from that has been historical. I think the main thing to remember is in a team with the lowest average age in the league, most of the time nerves will hit and it will affect performance. I think our very young squad affects our many confidence issues with our squad.

    we are and will cultivate patience for our team. i know we will do something exceptional in the coming times i'm sure of it. ppl will say that we spent a billion and are still 14th but they dont seem to get that the team is mostly composed of under 22 years players and that it's a project to build a team that will dominate the league for decades. we just need to be patient and not put too much pressure on the players.

In the month of September, Chelsea earned only a single point out of nine available points and were in eighth place in the Premier League :) We all know how it ended up. We’ve also played the worst teams in the league though in term of teams that don’t want the ball and just wanna counterattack so of course our “numbers” look good. Yesterday we beat Brighton and it was an ok performance but they had more of the ball so it kinda makes me feel like we’re only keeping the ball and generating a lot of activity around the opposition’s box because they want us to attack so they can counterattack. Also we had Lukaku, if the problem really is just putting the ball in the net then he’s a better striker than Jackson cause he will score if he gets chances. I don’t know until I see us win back to back games I’m not gonna be optimistic

    Great video. Villa fan here. There is no doubt that Chelsea are smashing teams all over the show, but lacking the confidence in front of goal. Can almost guarantee that they will at some point take a 3-0 win over a decent team, get their confidence back, and start hammering everyone by 3/4/5 goals. They are a sleeping giant, and the names they've signed, along with their ages - this team will get back to dominating the league in no time. Great signing with Poch - he will help them tear it up. It's more a matter of when, not 'if'.

    points to ponder:
    1)chelsea is losing games bcoz they’re not clinical in front of goal while their opponents are
    2)some, if not most, team’s success is based on being clinical in front of goal i.e. Real Madrid in UCL 2022…not all teams win trophies by dominating xG and actual goals like Man City
    Conclusion: being clinical is an attributes/stats on its own. you can outperform/ underperform the xG based on your team level of clinical in finishing chances

    • @MrSakainget
      @MrSakainget Před 8 měsíci

      Underperform also means that
      1. Chelsea has been playing well that the xG is always higher compared to the spectator (including Liverpool and Brighton so far)
      2. The player is not yet settled on the actual expected performance. This is understandable because the entire team just established this season and most of them are young potential player that needs need to play and learn to reach their potential

If we were as clinical as Liverpool, those goals conceded to Nottingham and villa wouldn't have mattered much
