  • Utilising this player with these hints and tips.
A very valuable player when used right.
Defensive but can be a great playmaker or rock in defence breaking up attacks.

Busquets is a deep laying play maker
De Jong is more box to box (Frenkie has described himself as a player "who likes to have the ball a lot, and play possession.) he covers alot of ground and is very versatile

If there is a counter attack and say the ball is switched to the wing and your teams fullback is caught high up the pitch, as a cdm, do you go to the wing and retrieve the ball or do u stay central and your cb gets the ball???

This is a very good question and I equally have doubts as to the correct answer despite my longevity in playing that role. For me, it depends if there are other attacking players and also on my CB at the time of play. If the CB is slow and the attacking wing player is quick, I move full on to plug the space. but if my CB is equally quick and there is another attacking player moving towards my position, I am wary of how I approach the winger. I try to contain him as much as possible without allowing an easy pass towards the dangerous man running towards the middle. That said, I would love to hear his response too or any professional's response.

Ideally you want your players to delay the wide player, slowing down the counter attack so your team can regroup.
Depends on how far up the field the ball is played to their winger determines which player would be more suitable to close down.
CB to cover and delay as the CDM drops deeper and covers the CB as this could be down quicker than the CDM trying to chase the wide ball from behind.
Again the main counter to an counter attack is to delay as much as possible to get everyone back into position so the closest player is best to close down and other players cover.
