Have we all forgotten how good the newcastle side was last season? Even our first team would have been crying meeting this newcastle side
But just in few weeks, poch with some academy boys, new young signings that are not even sure to be our starting 11 got a 1-1 draw from the almighty newcastle that started with their best 11. We couldn’t even see the positives and give the team some credit and hope for improvement but some of us are bashing. Funny fans tho. I’m loving what poch is doing so far

Newcastle we’re also playing with a 17 year old in midfield and a 19 year old centre half once Schar got injured. It’s pre-season it’s about building fitness. I’m not saying the results are meaningless, but it’s foolish to read too much into them too

I see a lot of inconsistencies in their pressing. Mudryk is almost always too passive, James wasn’t backing up Maatsen, etc.

I think poch likes one of his fullbacks to push high up while the other stays back (in this case, James being the one to stay back)
So it's a 325 in transition with the front 5 consisting of the front 3, CAM and a fullback
Your observation is subjective. Neither player is fully fit especially James. He was playing only his first game in pre-season and first since April. Mudryk only played like 30 minutes against Brighton before his 45 minute cameo. Pressing requires a lot of running and that will come when fitness levels improve.
That's why there's a preseason
Pochettino making Chelsea look like title contenders. It's only the pre season tho, but they are showing signs of an improved team ready for challenges
I'm going to be realistic and say top 4 is enough for Chelsea this season and going far in the cups. Also we need to finalise caicedo and get a gk and another attacker and midfielder

I love Newcastle's pressing / defensive setting way more than Chelsea's despite being a Chelsea fan. They often got caught in the middle of pressing aggressively and sitting deeper all the time, so they were neither winning the ball higher off the pitch or having a solid defence at the back. Would love to see them commit to one way.
Obviously, they need another midfield partner along side Enzo but this problem is more about the game plan than the personnel.
Don’t forget that it wasn’t our starting 11. If poch can play Humphrey, Cucu and chalobah and squeeze out a draw from Newcastle then i must give him so many credits. Don’t forget newcastle came all out with their full team. Moreover we still need a proper DM that can intercept players
Also, Enzo would sometimes drop between the 2 CB’s and Marc would come inside to CDM. It is rare but it the third option depending how the opposition presses.

Spurs fan here. I hope Mr. Pochettino learned to be flexible tactically whenever his side encounters difficulty in the build-up phase, where he likes to progress the ball through the full-backs. In the CL Final against Liverpool, Klopp eliminated that option and we were forced to play in the midfield where we got dominated. I am really curious to see how Chelsea plays for Mister.

I think Chelsea will improve massively and prove lots of people wrong and not being in Europe will only help them however they still have a few issues and it is a long season and the likes of man City arsenal man utd Liverpool and Newcastle will all likely make up the top 5 Chelsea could sneak above Newcastle but idk about top 4 having big names and playing good footy doesn’t always make success but nobody expected ten Hag to get top 4 let alone 3rd so u never know but I would back the other teams that have shown more

There are worries, but Pochetino will be counted as a success this season as long as he can take this Chelsea to European football which shouldn't be hard. Then, he can build off this young and hungry team and make them the best.
what do you guys think of Enzo still on a more defensive position ? I can't see him as a good defender because I think he is too slow and too passive to stay in a defensive position. Of course he has good pass and technique, but I think he could be more forward to use this.
This 6 months after his appointment please do a video analysis of it so far.

I couldn't agree more he played ball on the goal he jumped the line to try and intercept it I don't know why he had to jump it. in my opinion if he let the ball come to him from where he was at he could've met the attacker and ball possibly getting it back. But him jumping it had him flat footed and gave space

having Cucurella it suits the 3-2-5 well, if you check Chelsea has scored more with the use of wide wingers as Cucurella inverts to LCB or DM..vs Brighton with that system they scored 3 goals, while with Newcastle 1.
With Chilwell there is less creativity and flow going up front..
These players are different..Cucu gives Chelsea a good balanced 325 shape while Chilwell goes forward which takes wingers like Mudryk or Sterling out of the team..as you need an inverted winger Maatsen has suited that role so far..😅

He’s with his man but thinks he'll cut the through ball out early, doesn’t fully commit and allows Almirón the space to receive it and run into the box with no pressure on him. The man needs to make defensive decisions and stick to them.
Should point out I’m not a chelsea fan anyway so I'm only going off the highlights which obviously doesn’t give a fair picture of Cucurella's performance that game but you can’t be making blunders like that in the prem

This is blatantly untrue! Even last season which was our worst in PL history we only conceded 3 more goals than Arsenal. Chelsea had the joint 5th best defence in the league. I know Kepa isn't top quality but he won't be the reason why we may or not make the top 4. Chelsea's main concern is at the other end of the pitch which hopefully has been addressed with the new forwards.
