The Wolff journeys into the life of Lene Marie Fossen with "When The Lord'' by Susanna Sundfor

  • In the beginning I thought the song was about Susanna, but I was wrong. This song is the title track for the documentary from and about Lene Marie Fossen, which tells the life of the Norwegian photographer who died in October last year with 33, after a long struggle and/or life with anorexia.

What a brave and wise woman, Lene Marie was. She showed the world that her life was not just about anorexia. She had a gift and she used it. She even made anorexia a part of that gift. The song was beautiful. The imagery was, hard to watch but still spectacular. She showed the world that no matter what your life looks like, you can follow your dream.

It's comforting seeing you cry. Especially when you talked about your daughter. I have an absent father. I struggled with an eating disorder for 3 years. It was a complex issue with many causes that I'm still figuring out. But I remember hoping that one day someone would see what was happening and save me. What Lene looks like is how I felt on the inside. Completely deprived of love, understanding, and affection that I felt it was killing me. It still feels that way sometimes. I feel it now. I tried asking for help. I asked my mom just to sit down and talk with me. But words didn't seem to be enough to make anyone care.

@@TheWolffAndTheMelodyI always felt like I should respond to this, but I didn't know what to say. First of all, thank you. And yes, finding strength in myself is what I'm trying to do. Second of all, to give some insight from my experiences, to protect your children from these kinds of things, make sure they feel loved, especially when they're struggling. Never shame them for their emotions or things they can't control. Honor those emotions. Don't hold unrealistic expectations for them. Teach them that painful experiences should be processed instead of ignored. Encourage them to speak. Make sure they feel valued for who they are as people. Make sure they know they are always worth taking care of just for being human. How eating disorders are developed and experienced varies tremendously, but that's what I have to offer. You seem like a very emotionally intelligent fellow, so I have a feeling you already do all those things for your kids.

Absolutely beautiful reaction 😊 I don't know how many times I have watched this video, and the result is always the same. I react very much the same way as you. Susanne and Lene were close, personal friends, and it is Susanne you see in the video, sitting beside Lene in the bed. Lene was an incredible photographer, but despite me being Norwegian like her, I have to say that I didn't really know a lot about her before she died. In hindsight, that is a big pity, because I have been missing out on a lot of beauty.
Despite Lene's severe anorexia, she was an incredibly courageous and strong woman. I think many people could have learned a thing or two from her. She struggled from age 10, to the degree where her body didn't have the resources to put her through puberty, but I have learned that she never complained. And seeing how she would constantly visit and document through her pictures people that were struggling, like in refugee camps and so on, can make you wonder what you can contribute with yourself.
Anywho.... Through this reaction you earned yourself a new subscriber. I need to take a look at your other reactions as well. Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

Ok. I was not prepared for this. Cosmic, I admire your empathy. I am kind of the same, and sometimes it sucks cause it makes me get emotional when I don’t want to, and it has gotten much worse since I have kids. I can totally relate with what you said about yours, you wish them the best but you don’t know what’s ahead.
I am in a train right now back home. When I was entering the train I saw the paramedics trying to save the life of a woman right in the railcar I was supposed to get my seat. I had to exit again. They brought her devastated husband out, I saw the fear in his face, as they took care of him. After almost an hour of attempting to reanimate her, they said trough the speaker to shut the blinders of the windows. We knew what that meant, she died and they wanted to respect the privacy. Now I’m sitting here, and I can’t get it out of my head. I can’t even imagine what her husband is going through right now. He has a battle ahead of him now.
And then you show me this. Omg. I cried here. The person next to me asked me if I’m ok, lol. That was too much for today.
I’m just happy to go back home and be with my family. Your a great person, my friend. All the best!

thanks for your heartwarming reaction to this master piece. to be speechless after such a journey is nothing to be sorry for, this is the purpose of music and imagery like this.
if you remember the guy giving lene a hug on the vernissage, it's morten krogvold, also a photographer and tv host who did an interesting interview with lene about her art, her disease and her hopes for the future she didn't have. if someone here is interested, i'll post the link.
eating disorder is the most dangerous mental illness, too many people die from it, too little spoken about it, too little done against it.
you can be the most loving and caring parents in this world, but sometimes you just cannot do anything when things get out of hands. a sad fact, but true.
just never stop being there for your kids, be reliable, honest and caring and take kids seriously.
what an artist she was, and susanne was able to transform her visually powerful pictures into music of the same intensity so she won't be forgotten.
tanks again for the reaction, it means a lot to me.
