Recorded at 50fps using a real Atari 1040 STe (4mb, TOS v1.62, PAL), RGB SCART, a Micomsoft X-Sync1 and a Startech PexHDcap capture card.
Nice, a lot of good memories playing this with my grandfather as a lil kid back in the early 90s
So glad I can help you relive them! Thanks for watching 👍
Great to see the new content mate! ST for eva 🎉
Cheers mate! Yeah, STay Atari! /|\ I didn't know about your channel, subbed and followed and that!
Really glad to see you back. Hope all is well 👍 You've been missed.
Thanks for the kind words, Ghosty. It's bloody good to be back, mate! 👍
Love your reactions when your potting the balls. Nice to see how happy you can still be when playing old school games into adulthood. Think il give this one a try. Never played it back in the day. Only started watching your channel last year and really enjoyed your top 50. Led me to play Time Bandit for the very first time which was fun. Nice surprise to see you making new videos 😊
Finding the joy! That’s what the channels all about! I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos and especially pleased that I’ve helped you find a great new game. Thank you so much for the kind words, and thanks for watching. 👍
Zany Golf is great fun. From what I remember on Energy the vacuum spout dumps you up on the upper level. That thing you start near is a teleporter too I think. 2 player with a mate is good on this too
Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to come back to this game and try to crack the energy course.
Great game and really fun playing with friends. Another great video Marc - good to have you back 😀
Cheers, Dan. Really appreciate that. A nice little hidden gem here (at least on the ST - I'm not sure if it was better known on other systems).
what an absolute classic of a game this was.. i had it both on the ST and Amiga. remember clicking frantically on that burger bun to get it to rise and fall..
great to see you back in full force mate.. nice one..
Was there much difference between the ST and Amiga? If not, my thoughts of the game being written in C seem likely.
@@thejoyofsticks they are exactly the same, I'd say the Amiga version was a straight port from the ST. I think there's some slight improvement on the music, but graphically it's the same.
Good old Zany Golf. Thanks for this video, it's been a while since I last saw it :D
You are most welcome! 👍
Ohhh... isometirc graphics, nice puzzles, marbles rolling arround... somehow I realy like this game! 😄 never saw it before.
Hehehe! I wonder why? Still, I think this game would benefit from some randomness... and maybe some mazes? 😉
I think this was ported to a few things, i'm off to find a comparison video... You brighten my day, keep up the good work!
I should do the same, but I have a feeling that there will be little to separate the Amiga, ST and Apple versions. Did it appear on other systems? Am I hallucinating or do I remember a Megadrive/Genesis port?
@@thejoyofsticks yep and a msdos version too. You know, it's been 12 years since you did a standalone Oids video... Just saying, it's been a while. Regarding that new mouse - Shufflepuck Cafe?
That Oids video was from back when I was pointing a Sony camcorder at my TV screen! 🤣 Yes, that game deserves a bit more love than that for sure. Good shout on Shufflepuck! That would be a good test for the new mouse set up and it's a really interesting game to do a video on. 👍
This is a pretty nice game, despite it feeling a bit clunky. I have fond memories of enjoying the Amiga version back in '89. That level with the computers etc... is a bit over the top. I think it's too far removed from mini golf. Anyway, it was a fun seeing you play through the game. Nice one, Marc 👍
Cheers, buddy! My reaction to Energy was the same: "Errr... What's all this, then?" Real mini golf is so simple, really. Hit the ball into the hole. You can instantly see what you need to do. On that level, you need to figure out what to do. It felt more like a puzzle game at that point. But, hey. Kudos to the devs for trying something different.
I remember playing the Amiga version at some point. Looks the same and has the same sluggish feel to it. A fun game but definitely needed more holes!
It would be much nicer to just have a more responsive mouse pointer. I can handle the clunky scrolling.
Still the best crazy golf game ever made
Really? There hasn't been a better one more recently? I like this, but something with more precise controls and physics would be great.
They really embraced the ZANY aspect here. I wonder what the design meetings were like for this. What if one is a pinball table? Oh yeah and what if one was a huge sci fi obstacle course with lasers? Everyone looks around bewildered, and then cheers in agreement.
How was the mouse interface in the end? It seems so bizarre to have a bluetooth device controlling an Atari ST.
I quite like how it ramps up the zany. Starting with a bog-standard crazy golf trope, the windmill, it adds a little more insanity each hole.
I'm really pleased with the TruMouse. I just plugged it in, plugged the USB Bluetooth dongle, switched on the mouse and it worked flawlessly. It seemed a little unresponsive here, but that's the fault of the game. I gave it the ultimate test after this (Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh) and it performed admirably.
Part of me wants to be completely original and authentic, but it's hard to go back to a ball mouse after decades of optical! :D
I've just discovered an issue. If you move the mouse very slowly, it doesn't register movement in the mouse cursor at all. Almost like the mouse has a 'dead zone' like a stick on a controller. It's weird. Not sure if that's a TruMouse problem, it because of the Bluetooth mouse that I'm using. I'll have to investigate more.
A fine game this with somewhat defecatory physics. Much more fun than most golf games.
Them: What did you study at Uni?
Me: I got a first in Defecatory Physics.
@@thejoyofsticks Coprology is a gentleman's discipline, my friend!
@@bobfromsoireegames4309 🤣
More filthy sound bites! If someone put them together in an edit it'd be illegal! Once had a go at this game and found it quite difficult. Remember having more success with another 'crazy golf' game possibly with that exact name. Good work sir.
Mini Golf was the other game.
@@bobbyrogers12 On the ST?
🤣😅 It's surprising how risque golf lingo can get. Too many holes and strokes for my British constitution.
@@thejoyofsticks 😄
@@thejoyofsticks Yeah on the ST. It's on the Atari Mania and Atari Legend sites. Was also called Hole-in-One Miniature Golf apparently.
looks good, good your back uploading.
Cheers, Colin! Glad you are enjoying them. 👍
Never played this on any system. But it looks quite fun! More so than expected! 😁
Always nice to discover a gem!
Looks a decent game for a laugh ..but y3ah 9 levels or courses isn't enough ...great video as always ...love to watch them on a Sunday mate 👌
Yes, I think it would be a good game to play with a few mates and a cheeky beer. Just like real mini golf really!
I loved this game on the ST! It may not have many levels but we kept coming back to it anyway, multiplayer was good fun! One of the few games my dad would play on the ST but he would often have to move out of the way when us kids wanted to use it. Feeling quite bad about that in hindsight. Does that ever happen with your kids? There is a secret level in this game which has a pretty cool gimmick, but I didn't learn of it until many years later.
Yes! But it's with the XBox and the main living room TV! 😅 I'm happy to step aside though, otherwise they would be up in their rooms all the time and I'd hardly see them. A secret level you say? I wonder how you unlock that?
@@thejoyofstickson Energy there is a mouse hole in one of the walls where eyes appear in the darkness. Sometimes the eyes will be red, and if you hit the hole at that point you get to the secret level.
Nice! I'll look out for that on my next playthrough.
It is The Incredible Machine. The Rube Goldberg game I mean.
That's the one! Thank you, that would have bugged me all day.
Another great review
Cheers, bab! 👍
@@thejoyofsticks what look we’re getting Edd the Duck review lol
Ah never played this one! Enjoying the music though 🎹
It's cool to think it was made using the Music Construction Set and even plebians like us can make it! www.atarimania.com/utility-atari-st-music-construction-set_29753.html
Can we expect a single or two in the future? 😄
@@lawsdraws You should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky (ooh, got a nice ring to it, that one)
@@thejoyofsticks I bet this exists...somewhere XD
This is a really great game. Just wish there was more levels of course… good to see you posting yet again. Why the change? Sold the kids on eBay?? 😂
🤣 I'd have to pay someone to take 'em off my hands!
I just decided to make.more time for ST shenanigans in my life. I missed it, and with my job it's good for my mental health to focus on something else.
@@thejoyofsticks That I fully understand mate :/
Never played this one, it looks fun for a few plays in 2 player mode. The rebounds seem to be too high anyway. I wiñl have to give it a try.
Yes, the physics are a little off at times, not too much to ruin the fun, though.
Catsup was the original spelling of ketchup, I believe.
'Both words are derived from the Chinese ke-tsiap, a pickled fish sauce. It made its way to Malaysia where it became kechap and ketjap in Indonesia. Catsup and katchup are acceptable spellings used interchangeably with ketchup, however, ketchup is the way it is popularly used today. "Catsup", which dates to the same time, may well be a different Romanization of the same word, trying to come closer to a sound that doesn't really exist in English.
In the 1800s, "ketchup" was most common in Britain and "catsup" was most common in the US for reasons unknown.'
Well, there you go! Thanks, @pacbilly! We Brits have never called it catsup, but from now on, that's the only name I will use. I wonder if I can get it to catch on in my neck of the woods (I reckon I can at least get my kids to start saying it! 😆)
@@thejoyofsticks It always seemed to me that catsup would have been the UK-derived spelling. Ketchup couldn't LOOK any more American, even if there was a Z in it.
To be fair, we always used to call it 'red sauce' in my house. But that's brummies for you.
stop spamming videos :)
😂 3 in 3 years. I am SO sorry. I'll slow down a bit.
