- Obstacles, smobstacles! We finally found some camping, ya'll. Heck yeah, buddy!
Annette's channel is / @annettesvantease . She's so fun! You'll love her.
Chocolate Man in a Van is now Chocolate Man in Thailand, and his channel is / @chocolatemaninthailand .
Spammers and scammers on almost every comment! I just went through the whole section and reported each one of them like I was weeding a noxious weed out of a garden. Pickled 🍆 why can’t CZcams do more about getting rid of them?
Don’t be fooled everyone!
Thank you so much for doing that!! I'm going to pin this comment so hopefully other people see it too. Meanie head scammers need to get lost!
P.s. I just re read and saw pickled 🍆. I'm dying! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I had one on a comment on another video, you must have been the amazing person who reported them all! Thank you! I was going to do the same.
@@WaywardAbode idea for merch! 😂😂😂
@@christinamann3640 I love it! 😂😁
Thank you! 🙂
Your energy is changing. Higher vibrations! Glad things are getting better for you!
Absolutely noticable!
Confidence to the max!!
😊
Hi 🐦, Trust your instincts. If you're scared? Don't do it. ❤
Thank you!!
Always
Always
Number 1 rule. Go with your intuition.
Every time you park somewhere and crawl into that little house of yours ITS A WIN!!!! ITS A WIN!!! You are a winner! And you, dear Birdie, are a HERO!❤TN Nana
I am only 6 minutes in, but I am already hollering at my phone about what a great job you are doing and you are making perfect, logical and well-thought out decisions all the way through!
To turn back and not attempt the mud was wise if you know you cannot afford or do not have access to help if you might need it!
To leave a text for your daughter to let you know that you are okay so she doesn't worry.
To abandon the search and go stay in town when you felt too overwhelmed.
To listen to your intuition when it was telling you that you didn't feel comfortable with the camp area that already had many people, or the one where you were 20.miles away from cell service.
It's good to push yourself to do things you are nervous about. And you did.
It is also good to choose the safe/safer option if you are feeling too far past your boundary.
I camp often solo with my service dog in places without cell service or any amenities. Boondocking in random primitive settings feeds my souls.
These are the things I do to keep myself as safe as possible.
1. Aim my vehicle so I can pull out forward to make a quick exit if the situation turns crazy at any point. I can replace items I might need to leave behind. Or, if I felt comfortable, I could go back at a different time, or with a companion to see if I can retrieve my things. I also hang my keys from my gear shifter, but I don't have the benefit of a panic button or automatic locks. I would keep my keys near my physical bed if I had that feature on my vehicle. Wherever you keep them, know where they are at all times.
2. I send gps coordinates to at least 2 separate people who are not in the same physical household. So often that ends up my mom in Missouri and my sister in California. My mom lives with my dad and adult son, and my sister lives with her husband. So, that ends up being 5 adults who know where to start looking for me if I don't turn back up or if an emergency happens. I try to get the coordinates to be as accurate as possible, so I've been known to find my spot, copy the exact coordinates and then drive to a place where I have cell service long enough to send the coordinates before heading back to the desired spot.
3. I also tell these same people how long to expect to not hear from me and a specific day to start worrying and looking if I don't turn up. If I end up with a moment of cell service like in town for supplies or on a walk or something something, I will also shoot them a quick text to say that I'm still alive.
Often though, I go for a week at a time and prepared so I don't have to leave. All people I notify have copies of my license plate and description of my vehicle and medical history so they can help first responders find me and treat any illnesses or injuries quickly. Even if I can't communicate.
They also have copies of my Advance Directive and DNR, but I keep these all with me as well as emergency contact numbers. I keep a physical slip of paper in my pocket with the phone #s, and a photo ID on my person as well.
Also, there are tracking apps available where you can give permission for your daughter (and others) to be able to see on a map where you currently are all the time, or when you have it on.
I'm going to go watch the rest of your video now.
I hope my suggestions help someone to be more comfortable trying solo camping when they are ready.
You are so awesome! Your encouragement just blows me away. And your tips are perfect! I'm gonna keep those. Thank you so, so much! 🥰🤗
Awesome advice!!
Thank you for your wise and wonderful tips!
Life360! Great suggestion!
Amazing suggestions AND I second your awesome comments!!
Katherine Lee Bates wrote “America the Beautiful” while sitting atop Pike’s Peak in Colorado. When I saw Pike’s Peak in 2016, I was like “Ohhhh! It’s literally PURPLE! That’s why she said that!”
Cool! Answer is right from the source of the lyrics too! Thanks for sharing this!!
@@vanessachristopher1515 Absolutely!!! :)
From joy and laughter, to laughing crazy to serenity etc. what a wonderful style you have! Like NO others on YT! Keep it up and don't let your height ever get spoiled 😊.
I can't thank you enough for saying that. Sometimes I worry I'm too all over the place. Your comment means a lot to me. I hope you're having an amazing evening!
I always love seeing your videos come up.
I feel the very same way when your comment comes up!! ❤️
😂😂 Pickled WHAT????? 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Oh my, I can’t breathe! 🤭😅
I also loved that 😂
Same ROFL!
I'm sure she said pickled peanuts! 😅
Ahahah! Dear Birdie, any comment to our ‘discussion’ going on here? 🤭
My friend from the south says “ boiled peanuts” as her “cuss word”. I’ll share with her your pickled “peanuts”😂
When you said "There's just this relief", I breathed more deeply. It's real, that need for wilderness, and it thrills me that you are getting to experience such beauty. (And the animation is fun!)
Trust me girl long sleeves, pants, hat, benadryl on hand always. Aloe vera.
Thank you for taking us with you, on your adventure, I enjoyed the ride.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The other thing to try is to go for a walk along the road to check out what is ahead. We do that a lot in the Australian outback to make sure we can pass especially if there are creek crossings or the road is muddy. X
Are there paved roads in California, haha. You need to put the donation button up, so we can get together and get you new tires. Good heavens gal! Safety first, please!
You're absolutely right - I should be more careful! I'm trying to be. But I also want to be a brave girl! It's a hard line to walk. lol.
I agree! Put up that contribution button. That isn't asking for funding. It's totally an option for those of us who want to see you thrive, make more videos, and keep on truckin'.
Yes, I would like to contribute to her on a regular basis. So many other van lifers are making bank and she is just squeaking by so sharing is caring.
Are there paved roads in California? Think 405.
I think she will get quite a following if she keeps making videos!
Er my gosh.... the nostalgia that flowed from hearing "Deep Thoughts" Jack Handy 😅 Good to see you again T! 💃
I'm so glad to hear that! I knew a lot of our community would remember that. :)
What a beautiful camping spot. You are doing it Birdie! Even though you're scared you are doing it. Be proud of yourself girl. 💖
Love that you saw a hummingbird. A hummingbird spirit animal symbolizes joy, freedom, perseverance, creativity, love, and healing. It encourages us to live in the moment, to be open for change, and to pursue our dreams with optimism. It’s small size and ability to fly in all directions represent flexibility and freedom. Sounds like the perfect message sent to you by the Divine Birdie! Next time, go around the bend, lol. 🤞. Love ya!
..also you need to add "by me.a coffee" or a link like that for donations from people who appreciate the videos!
That hummingbird was attracted to your red sunglasses. I have had them dive bomb me in the garden when I have my red sunglasses on. It is definitely startling but also so freaking cool! Happy camping!!
I just thought of something: those red sunglasses are the same color as the red "hummingbird nectar" some people put out for them. He thought you were a HUMMINGBIRD FEEDER!!😮😮😮
I didn't think of that! But it makes perfect sense. Now I want to wear red sunglasses all the time! 🤩
@@WaywardAbode YES! I love when the "visit". They are fairly skittish and I have never actually had one run into me. It's just way cool to get them to come that close to you. Isn't the sound of their little wings zipping amazing?
You should be so dang proud of yourself. 😊
I can already see so much more confidence in you since you started....way to go Birdie ❤
Thank you, Amy! That's so cool to hear. :)
Go Birdie Go!
This is your calling!
Enjoy!
Birdie! Win Win!! Great video! Beautiful too! ❤❤
Seeing other people occasionally is not a bad thing and at night things will be quiet. Stake your claim girl!! I’m proud of you 🙂
You're such a good friend, PR! 🤗
My dad lives in Cirus Heights! Any way, I’m in Washington, and you can over night at Tractor Supply, Bass Pro Shop, Cabellas ,some lows, some Home Depot’s, Costco, and Sam’s club. Just to let you know. Big hug
Excellent tips - thank you!!!
Hi thank u birdie i just had a mini heart attack when that thing came out from behind that shed. Oh my. Wow 😆 😅😅my sons laughing at me..i loved your camp beautiful 😊
I love that illustration of the bird driving the van!
You should sell stickers of that Birdie!! Or even tshirts or something!!
@@jessicarotich1103 Yes, merchandise, great idea, Jessica!!
You are SO BRAVE!!!! A Warrior Woman and you are not “dumb” but sometimes we all feel like a dumb bunny in a new situation. Yes trust your instincts you did great!!!!!
And I am allergic to the sun too… since I was 18, first Texas girl trip to the Florida Beach. It comes on but will play peek a boo. Mast Cell Activation.
But I laughed so darn hard when you said just like that boy in 6th grade and 7th and 8th…. Oh I can relate.
So proud of you! And yes being someplace you are “allowed” is like a huge weight off the load you are carrying.
Huge hugs 🤗 Enjoyed the trip we took together it so feels like you know we are with you. I am friend so with you❤
Need more “Deep Thoughts” inserts. You got some skills 👍
I love the Deep thoughts with Camping Birdie 🐦 so very much too😘💝💐💝
Love the "deep thoughts" section.. you should keep that going! Fun!
That's awesome! Thank you!!
Oh Birdie, please avoid places where you have no cell service. It's just not safe. If you ever pass through north Iowa, you can stay with us. We have a farm with plenty of room.
That was fun, and what beautiful views. I can imagine the weight lifting off your shoulders when you were there. Wonderful peace!
Key to muddy roads. Go SLOW, never let ur tires completely stop.
Hope you turned around to head in the right direction. Always point your vehicle in the direction you are exiting. Beautiful area. Good for you going and do trust your gut but try to go a little farther. If too worried walk down the road to see what is down there. Hugs
Thank you for the encouragement. I'll definitely try to go farther next time! 🤗
You are such a hoot 🙂. Watching your videos is one of the highlights of my week 🙂.
I came across your CZcams channel last week and watched all your previous videos and have really enjoyed them and think you have an awesome channel. You were very brave to keep going and what an amazing view. Travel safe.
Love watching your videos, watching from the east coast of Ireland. Wishing you only good times
That's so sweet! Thank you so much!!!
I get SO much joy from your videos. Sending love from middle Tennessee.
Wow, that was so entertaining to watch. Deep Thoughts should be in every video…so funny. Congratulations on taking so many baby steps. Please keep sharing.

I’m glad you had 3 glorious days camping. You go girl! You sure are entertaining!
I am so glad you pushed through your fear! What an amazing view!
OMG, the trees are beautifully shapped, and that sunset to foggy morning transition was everything. 😃
Giiiiiirl, that creature scared the crap outta me! LOL!
I'm so happy you enjoyed yourself in the wilderness, minus the sun allergy.
Birdie you are such a delight! I’m trying to get my nerve up to do some solo car camping. I’ve joined a car camping group. My first experiment is to drive over to the Cracker Barrel and spend the night. My husband, my friends and neighbors think I have lost my mind.
Cracker Barrel Restaurants allow overnight stays. You need "all terrain" tires rather than "highway" tires. You found really pretty spots to stay at! That was probably a ruby-throated hummingbird and they're attracted to the color red...your sunglasses! Nature is a healer! 😊❤ OH, your worries about tipping your van over aren't necessary!! Safe travels! 🎉🌻🐦
In my area, Cracker Barrel
Chic Fillet
Several Walmart
Allow vehicles overnight
'Deep Thoughts with Camping Birdie' - 😂😂😂. I just love this kind of humour!
Not a gamer, and that zombie/ghoul def gave me a jump scare 🤣😂
Found your channel through your mental health video. Appreciate you sharing in such a vulnerable way 🫂
Glad to see you enjoying the moments that you work so hard to create for yourself 💜✨️
Get 2, 4+ boards 1" x10"x1'. That way you can level yourself off on the low side. Your are right. Even a little incline can make a big difference when you are in bed! My husband and I drove our RV to Alaska last year. By the end, we had learned that we could even level the truck's rear wheels. It made up for the incline and also let us stay hitched. We picked up a whole pile of rv levelers for $1 each, at a thrift store. We already had a set, but in mountainous terrain, it helped a lot to be able to level side to side and front to back. There is a learning curve. You are persevering and the reward is great. So happy you are sharing your journey.
If you’re going to do a lot of wild camping you might want some leveling blocks. And a canopy or pop up shade structure.
Best wishes from N.J. I live vicariously through you,, love the videos stay safe
oh! such a beeyootiful vid...seeing all that MUD-.i was so happy that you had your NEW shovel! 😍love the Handy "deep thoughts" tribute! RE: us fitzpatrick one peeps, i have thrifted a collection of THIN long sleeve t's and long sleeve men's shirts that keep the sun off me without getting hot. even the dessert dwelling peoples cover up with light layers to keep cool. i got "sun bumps" one time that took SIX MONTHS to go away! thank you for all those rolling hills and foggy morning beauty shots......🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
She is so positive. I love that

@@AnnettesVanTease Love you!
You are so wonderfully courageous! I just admire your spirit. Much love to you. 💖
Hi, Kandi!! Thank you so much! 🥰
Girl we take our wins where we can, I’m proud of you. I love the videos as always thanks for taking us along with you.
If you are on certain meds, you may be more sun sensitive. I have that problem. Also, I think if you had sun poisoning before it is easier to get it again. You should be proud of yourself for conquering your fears. For the record, i would not have gone into the muddy first park. Trust your instincts.
That hummingbird saw a beautiful flower and buzzed right over!🌹"Sometimes you just gotta wash off your undercarriage!"😂Sounds like you had a good time on your outing. Many more!
If you have any space you should carry a small bag of cat litter. If you get stuck it can help get you out.
Just not the clumping kind, it sets like cement and never comes off
🎉❤🎉❤ over 10 k as well congratulations🎊
I ended up doing a checklist for myself to find camping spots. Campendium is a great app that includes pictures, reviews and cell service reports. You will figure out what you want as you do this more...here is my list so you can take anything you find useful. ❤ Checklist: Does it have cell service? Do any reviews mention how the access road is to get to it. Are the sites/parking gravel, dirt, or pavement? Is it away from the highway? Is it away from a train track? Do the reviews mention ATV trails near the site? Is it going to rain while you are there? (Roads that are fine when dry can be icky when wet but we are OK with that as long as we are not rushed like you were able to do in this video) You will come up with your own criteria but be PROUD of yourself for committing to keep searching) Every spot will not be heavenly but the ones that ARE make the effort worth it. 😊 This time you definitely WON.
LOL - Your deep thoughts on mud reminded me of the feel of mud between your toes -- so cold and icky.
Yes! But I can handle that better than dry dust between my toes. I'm shivering just thinking of it! 😂
Good for you - another step in a positive direction! Just keep on, one step at a time! YAY for YOU!
I just love ur videos. You inspire me to get out and enjoy nature ❤
Your emotional growth is commendable!! I don't camp or even travel in a van....I am watching just because you have a beautiful soul!🤗💟😎💖
Hi Birdie, you sweet lady. Has anyone taught you to gear down when climbing or in the slippery stuff. Most people keep their car in overdrive and just forget it. If you pull your gear shift just one notch down you’ll have more traction. Don’t forget to put it back in overdrive for streets and roads😊
I enjoy your videos!⭐️ Pretty countryside. I thought you did a good job of parking. Thanks for taking us along.❤
Tires are the most important safety equipment you have on your car.
Hey Girl!! Love this adventure and fun video. Glad you are challenging yourself to continue going to new areas. Don't know if you're a a Triple A member, but if you are, you can get free paper maps. Some of them have BLM land infromation and really helpful if you don't have cell service and can't pull up a map! Lots of love to you girl! ☁💖🌛
She is a riot!😊
I love your videos. They bring such joy and I love your laugh. Blue Mountains, Australia here!
Hi Birdie I am totally loving your van life and I think I’m vicariously living it through you! Thank you for taking us along on your journey ❤ The deep thoughts and falling rolling off the bed (into the potty) omg oh Lordy! 😂😆 I’m with you all the way ❤ 10.4 subs! 🎉 Congratulations 🎉p.s. you need a little awning or an umbrella of some sort for shade
I loved this one- and like everyone else, I appreciate your honest emotional appraisals! PS in Native American medicine "hummingbird" is JOY!!
Wise boon docking decision. The challenge of the continued upward drive was the real WIN!!! Sharing time with a humming bird was a bonus. Lovely trip. Thanks for sharing.
Sending love and good vibes your way 😊
Congratulations on more than 11k subscribers! You nailed it and I'm so happy for you!
Not a fail! You got out of dodge (Sacto)! It looks beautiful! Just the break you needed! Love seeing your table, chair & solar panels out! Yes, I jump too when hummingbirds sneak up on you to buzz your ears.
How wonderful that you were able to spend some beautiful days out in nature! I know it wasn’t your perfect camping spot, but you came pretty dang close! Have a delightful time spending tomorrow with your daughter! I love your videos and you, Birdie!! Stay safe, and good luck with your animation projects. I’m so glad you thought of doing that. We all need things to do that make us happy! 🤗💕
Love it!
Great Vid!
Stay happy and strong!!
Great views AND fresh air !!!!
Really pretty along the river. A little treasure close to home.
If you're not used to dirt roads I guess they can be scary. I grew up in rural Michigan and drove on dirt roads most of my life. The worst were the washboard roads. Rattle your teeth out of your head 😂. When I travel anywhere near water I have the same calming feeling and will go out of my way to stay near it. Stay safe and enjoy your time your way. ❤
Immediately clicked the like button!
You're so cool! Thank you so much!! ❤️
Birdie - I absolutely adore you! You make me smile every time I watch you.
I am so proud of you… I mean look at all of the things you are doing to push yourself out of your comfort zone. And how beautiful was that scenery? Just wow!
One question: How could one get a gift card for gasoline to you if I wanted to send you one?
My first time I saw a hummingbird in real life I ALSO thought it was a large scary insect at first! They're very very different than most birds in flight.
Wow, yay for you, you did it! That is the very definition of bravery and courage-- to feel the fear and do it anyway. And you inched yourself through it, sticking to your comfort zone for awhile and then moving past it. So cool! It's important to be safe, so you are just walking the line between listening to your fears and knowing when it's okay to move forward. Loved the SNL "deep thoughts" part, lol! And, um, pickled p*nis? That's a new one for me! 😅
Wow Google maps let me go down that road too and that is really great! PInned it on my map! Good job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And good job on the apartment camp! Even I might have hesitated for one that small, but good to know! I would also consider hotels of a certain size. And yes, I have had sun allergies since my 20s, so I always have to have sunscreen or take steroids for the rashes which are not good for you long term. (Damn you for the Fallout jumpscare! I really did scream! 😆😆)
YAY!!!! You got out of the city!
Well done you!! Looked very pretty! Always trust your gut and when you stopped, I could see it was just a dirt track going off into the distance. So hummingbirds have a spiritual meaning when sighted, it signals that challenging times are over and healing can begin. Also a sign of hope and good luck.😊
Rugged tyres are a good idea or weight your boot down so you gain more traction. I know with my little car, this is what I have to do with snow. Your AI logo could be your sticker design. That rash sounded like 'Prickly Heat' which is a heat rash. Chamomile lotion is good to use or use acool damp cloth to cool down. In the meantime, make or buy an awning for the side of the car. Hope your feeling better😊
Have you thought about busking for money Miss Birdie? Such a beauuuuuuuuuutiful voice!
Poor little insect must be so Discombobulated 😂 Fantastic video 💙💖💜 Trust your gut, Be safe.. You did good 👍
Good call on the mud avoidance! Such a lovely spot - glad you got to enjoy the view for a while 😊
Thank you so much, Heather! 🥰
I relate to the contrast of sensation between city and nature. 🌷Thank You🌻 be well and always follow your instincts.
We have a property in clear lake. Wish I knew you were going to be there you could stay there as long as you need. We're in reno
😂😂😂😂I'm weak at "HOW CAN A HUMAN BE ALLERGIC TO THE SUN"😂😂😂😂
Great job in trusting your instincts
Whenever you park ALWAYS park toward the exit!! And have your keys in the same place along with you bear spray, raid, or gun in the same place.
You really are so brave!
California is a beautiful state.I watched a nurse in red scrubs get attacked by a hummingbird we all screamed lol.
See, if you add a donation button, then you get new tires, and you get to go more places, and then WE get to go more places, so really it's for US!!!
Well that was a wild ride! From muddy roads and Deep Thoughts to purple mountain majesty and sun poisoning and to being bombed by a hummingbird, then finally settling down but nope here’s a zombie skedaddling out of an abandoned mine. 😂 Your videos are hilarious and inspirational and I just love you. ❤
I call it a win. The conditions were compromised with the mud and I think you made a wise decision to not go farther since you didn't know what you would maybe run into.
It will still be available to explore in the future. 🙂
OH, I totally want to see your animation stuff : ) Can't wait!
My grandmother was allergic to the sun. She wore a lot of sunscreen. Good luck!
What a wonderful video! Keep it up, you're doing awesome.
I’m out in the mountains and am blissed out! On the other hand the wifi and cell service sucks. So I will look forward to catching up when I’m back home later next week! ❤
Oh the decisions!
Beautiful sunset and even more beautiful foggy morning.
Deep thoughts....
Fear of the squishy mud... you are too cute.😂
When you came to the bend, I was sitting here saying,
Go Birdie, go Birdie.... and you didn't. :::sigh:::
maybe next time.
I know it's a tightrope thing.... listen to your instincts or push a little out of your comfort zone.
I'll try new foods and beverages. They say your taste buds change so I try to keep an open mind. However, the lines I draw and will never cross are oysters and mushrooms.
Once a hummingbird got right in my face just hovering inches from my face. Made me wonder if perhaps I over did it on the lipstick. 🤣
OMG.... I became alergic to the sun about four years ago and my skin reacts exactly as yours. In fact, when it first happened my reaction was also the same.... you gotta be freakin kidding me. I was ticked off. Happened on my first vacaton I had taken in 25 yrs.
Oh you are as weird as me. 😂 I wonder when I move insect hitchhikers a distance from their origin of pickup, if they're discombobulated or going to miss their stomping grounds. Can you imagine the ones that get on a plane and end up in a foreign country. 🤣😆🤣
Thanks for the fun video!
I heard a story from someone about his exwife unpacking after getting home and letting out a swarm of fruit flies. She was a flight attendant that had just came back from Australia and they were HUGE! 😧
I took a drive a while back up 16 to 20 and up the avenue of giants. On the way back when you start on 16 off of 20 about a mile down the road there a huge field on the left with some large tanks in it. I got to see 3 bull elk and a couple of cows. That is a very beautiful drive.
