- This van tour might be more of a "don't do what I did" kinda video. I did consider putting off the van tour until I got it right. But, honestly, that could take ages! lol. So this is a first draft minimal build minivan camper. She'll get better!

If there was an award for the most likeable person you’d get it. I’m obsessed 💖
Wow, that is a huge compliment. Thank you so much!
You have my vote.
You got my vote too , you are amazing❤
Exactly! I totally feel the same way. I subscribed to her channel since the first video I watched. She is amazing!
I completely agree! 💯
Libraries are great places to hang out and you can charge anything all day so that you have enough energy to use your laptop in the evening.
girl that paperclip idea just totally saved me! I've been trying to find a solution to hold curtains and that is just perfect! Thanks for sharing!
I hope you will not be hard on yourself ever because I think you have done a lot that works for you in a small space. Enjoy your travels and keep smiling ☺️ and being you!
Birdie! I’m so glad I found you! My minivan is already outfitted. I’ve watched roughly 3 million minivan camping/living videos. But you are a total breath of fresh air. I love your humor, your honesty, your resourcefulness, your courage and determination, your realness. Slick, polished vanbuild videos can be lovely and instructive, but it’s so helpful, and so relatable, to watch someone thinking it through, figuring it out, tweaking and reassessing, and embracing the challenges with such a positive spirit. I also absolutely love the name of your channel, and your editing is awesome-just the right balance, just the right pace. I hope you’ll keep making videos-we need your particular spark!
Wow!! Your comment actually gave me goosebumps. You're gonna make me cry! In a good way. :) Thank you so much. You have given me such a boost of confidence. I appreciate it more than I can say. It's wonderful to meet you!!!
Isn't she wonderful.
You are spot on, I love her aura🥰
@@bayoubabe6698 That's so sweet! Thank you! ❤️
@@kerryg-9journey Thank you, Kerry! 🥰
Oh my goodness…you need to give yourself a pat on the back for doing an awesome job. Your van looks great. Be proud! 👍🏼😃
Wow, thank you! 🥰
A joyous tour. Loved it from over here in the UK. Great ideas for updates, I'll look forward to seeing them. I've done some beading, although crochet is my first craft love, but know all about stashing yarn about every available space, like you have beads 🤭
@@MooniiplaitsCrochet Thank you!! I mean, crafting is important. More important than extra space, for sure! 😂
I used to own this 1st generation of Sienna. It is very hard to make it roomie inside! What you need to do is arrange the most used item available within reach while sitting in the bed without moving anything. Have fun making changes. 😂😂😂 After 5 years, I am still making changes after every trip that I take. TRUST me on this-Vanlife is a constant change.
Hey MoBang!! I watch your channel too. Great ideas!!! Thanks!!
MoBang does have the best ideas for minivan life!
I'm 100% on board with forever change. That's a good time to me!! Thank you. :)
There's a woman named Lulu (I think her CZcams channel is called Lulusway, but if you search Van life Lulu, it should pull her up). She's done some really cute, clever and useful things to her van, so maybe she could give you some inspiration. Besides, she's really fun and upbeat, all about a positive attitude.
Heyyy what's up? Nice to see you!
It's a pin cushion. I've seen people use a board, about the size of a big cutting board, that fits onto the steering wheel which makes a nice "desk" and/or "dining table". (Ikea? Amazon?) You could sew a drape around the edge of a thin cushion to put on the toilet and use it as a stool or "coffee table". The biggest problem with living in a small space is having to move everything around all the time. AND keeping it all organized ALL the time! If you use the toilet as a stool, could you set a board across the width of the car somehow to do jewelry on? Your storage of beads and supplies are already well contained. But let's face it, you need a bigger vehicle! Like a box truck? I'lll say some prayers for you. Creative work is important for all of us with depression. You go, Girl! I couldn't think straight when my depression was bad but I could still string beads! And selling off a card table at a flea market is fun! People take turns watching each other's booths for bathroom and food brakes.
You’re incredibly likable and so relatable!. God knows that even if some of us haven’t been diagnosed with some sort of mental illness, it certainly doesn’t mean we don’t have one! (I especially enjoyed that video!) Love your honesty and transparency! Thanks so much for sharing your life with your viewers! A big hug and kiss to your precious little girl! I have one myself!✌️😁💕🌼🌤️
I agree!!! She's very easily likeable.
And yes, I'm one who hasn't had the diagnosis, but i experience a lot mentally and emotionally.
Her transparency helps others (me...I am others 😂) feel seen and heard.
What space you have you have made awesome 🌹Much love and respect.
Ms Pat from southern Indiana.
@@conversationswithadrianneI have severe anxiety and depression, CPTSD. Im.not diagnosed because, they say I function well. I don't function well. I put on my "I'm OK" mask and go to work (13 hrs a week ) I have a homestead and take care of my animals. But, I do MINIMAL to survive. I get a widow benefit check where I was able to decrease my work from full time.
I'm told because I function, I'm OK.....if I hadn't paid off my 70 years old home that needs a LOT of work, I would be homeless
I enjoyed this video. You do a great job of explaining your choices.
As a widow of less than two years I feel like my life is full of changes. Moving your "desk" to the too of your toilet, then back to your bed when you need the toilet feels like the definition of my life. In the middle of the night when I am tired and sad every little change feels so important and like it could lead to an avalanche if I don't do it right. So I take a deep breath, thank God for anything that comes to mind and pray that God protects me from the avalanche this time, too. Life is great, we help a lot of others, but it sure isn't easy. I'm praying you can make the height adjustments your bed needs and get your toilet in a more comfortable place. God is protecting and helping you, too
”OUTSTANDING" Well done you but what the heck world is this we're living in cars !!!
It is an absolute shame how many people are being forced into it. I was one of the lucky ones that actually had the means to have a van. And it all worked out OK for me. But you're absolutely right that it's sad the state we're living in now.
Very greedy and uncaring world.
Don't be so hard on yourself! For someone who's never built anything before, I think you've done an awesome job! The only suggestion I might have for you is to buy the toilet sheets that absorb moisture and turns it into a gel. That way you don't have to carry the big bag of pallets. Thank you so much for sharing, and safe travels! ❤
Thank you! I'm definitely gonna have to look into those absorbent sheets. They seem like a much better solution if I can afford it! :)
@@WaywardAbode I found mine at Walmart I think. There are a few different types out there 😊
@@michellestratford9753 Sweet. I'm at Walmart all the time! 😂
I'm not sure which is cheaper, ones intended for people or ones for pets. I have ones that are meant to be doggie pee pads.
You are so brave and brilliant. We've lived on the road for 16 months, picked up loads of space saver tips on the way, one of the best ones was putting spare jumpers and towels into our pillowcases and cushions. With the porta potty you can put a nice cloth on the top and use it as a table.
You have done a great job on your home on wheels. It all takes time and the longer you do it the more ideas you come up with.
Well done x
Second video I've watched of you. You are a natural at talking to the camera. So easy to listen to, such a great sense of humor, you keep my attention with your perky energy and great personality...be safe, be confident...enjoy life!!!!!!!
I'm honored that you've watched more than 1 video. Thank you so much for that! And for being so sweet. 😊
Hi love your attitude. You can buy a foldable desk that hangs from the steering wheel. Provides a stable base to do work. It folds away when your finished. Might be a little bit more comfortable in front seat.
That's certainly worth looking into! Thank you!!
Awesome job! I love your beadwork! Thanks for sharing your tiny home!
Thank you very much!!
Birdie you have such a great personality and it will get younthrough anything. Your positivity is awesome, keep on adjusting what works for you!
Thank you. I appreciate that so much. 🥰
No shame in a first draft, girl! Thank you for sharing your process ❤
I think you are well organized. I didn't read all the comments so I might say something you all ready know, but maybe move the stuff from the foot of the bed and put the toilet there and the stuff you will move were the toilet is. Sleep with your head near the front of the van. Maybe that will help with the slant of the bed as well. Also you could put a folded thick blanket on the mattress from your head to about where your hips are to stop the slant. Hoping to help. -Best, Jan
Hi, Jan! Thank you for your suggestions! I'm totally gonna see if that folded blanket trick will work while I'm getting around to leveling the floor. Thank you!!
I live in my car and just started my CZcams channel. I love seeing everyone else’s experiences!
Right on! I just subbed to you and will watch your vids as soon as I have decent wifi again. We're journeying together now! :)
I just subbed too Brittany
@@Mystica._ thank you!
Kudos to figuring all of this stuff out and building shit!
Girl, you have the "must have" in your kitchen! TONY'S!!! 😁
Heck yeah, buddy! My grandma taught me well. I was not gonna leave that behind! :)
You are very pretty! I like your smile and your personality. Thanks for sharing your van- ife with us. God bless you in your journey and always!
You made me smile. Great job on the layout. I am sure you will tweak it to better fit your needs.
And now you've made me smile. Thank you! :)
That’s a brilliant idea trying a knot into end of curtain and using a paper clip 📎 to tuck into places to anchor! Handy ❤
I wish I could take credit! I saw someone else use binder clips like that. I didn't have any binder clips, but I did have paper clips. And they work great! :)
Amazing! There is no way on this green Earth I could be as organized and practical as you! Speaking of amazing, your beadwork is just beautiful. 💕
I bet you'd do great with a van. And thank you!!
Fix a Flat will make A very gooey, sticky mess for the person who fixes the tire. Use the air compressor instead.
@@nilasink3270 I did not know this! Thanks for the heads up! :)
I don't know what is more amazing, your beadwork or you! You remind me so much of one of my dear cousins.
What an absolutely cool comment!! That's like three massive compliments and you put a massive smile on my face with it. Thank you SO much!
That beadwork looked fantastic! A side hobby to make extra money?
You’re so sweet , nice , cheerful and awesome! You have everything you need! You inspire others to do their own builds!
That is such a cool thing to say. Thank you!! 🥰
"seatbelt needs to earn its keep around here" i seriously love you!!
Well if that's your first draft, can't wait to see your second! I've seen tons of videos like this and this I know: your space will be for ever evolving so chillax and enjoy the ride girlfriend..love and peace from Australia as always 🦘😘
Such a cool comment - thank you! Chilling commencing.
It takes creativity and incredible perseverance to live in a van. I've been there and done that.
Birdie, how are you doing? I live in a ‘stick n brick’ but I enjoy watching van/car life videos. You all are so amazing with how you make things work for you no matter what.
It is such an enjoyable moment when I click on videos like this and watch real people live the life that is for them.
You really are something else (in a good and positive way). I started watching this video last night but I was so tired that I could not finish watching it. I had to come back today to finish the video and I am glad that I did.
We all have a story to tell and I like how you told yours. You are a blessing to others whether you realize it or not. To me, you are telling a message of hope.
I am praying that God continues to provide you with everything that you have need of in every area of your life.
Just remember that God has you🙂💜.
I came here after reading about your channel in another channel’s comments. Going to keep watching until I’m caught up. Take care.
That's so cool. Thank you!!
I love it! You are fun to watch!
What a cool thing to say. Thank you!!!
Great video, Birdie!!! I love your sense of humor and how real you keep it. I'm so glad i found you on CZcams again. Have a great time with your daughter. I know how special they are. I have two of my own I'm extremely close to. Can't wait for your next video!! ❤😊
Hi! Thank you!! I'm so happy to hear you're close with your daughters. We are so lucky, aren't we?
Hi Birdie. You have an excellent talent of storytelling! You are articulate, engaging, funny and wear your heart on your sleeve. Continue the videos and show your version of van life. I’m want to know your story, good, bad, funny, quirky, just continue.
That's so sweet of you! Thank you so much. 🥰
You’ve done a great job making a minivan a home. You will find ways to make it better as you live in it.
You really put a lot of work into your new home. I think it’s amazing. 🤩
That's so nice of you to say! Thank you!
You are braver than I am, I enjoy listening and watching your down to earth attitude and resourcefulness. Hang in there you seem to be getting it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. ❤️ I wasn't brave until I had to be. So I bet you'd be a lot more brave than you'd think. I'm very glad to meet you. 😊
Love your build. You know where everything is. So neat.
Thank you!! I feel like I lose things all the time, but that's cause I'm silly and don't put them where they belong. 🤪
I love your honesty and the reality that we all can’t be out on blm land spawling out gear and making it home, while relaxing and viewing snow capped mountains alone. You are clearly resilient! Keep shinning!
God bless you and keep you safe, comforted, and at peace on your journeys ❤
You are utterly amazing . You have the most engaging personality. You should be extremely proud of yourself. You have conquered insurmountable odds and have shone. I will be following you and cheering you on at every turn.
You are so wonderful that I just had to subscribe. Your a breath of fresh air and a real person
You are COURAGEOUS!!😊
lol... My name is Tammy and I call my daughter Birdie. Looks like you're figuring out what works for you. I wish I could do what you're doing. Happy travels!!
What a coincidence. We're basically family now! I wish you could do it too. Maybe someday?
The only constant thing in life is change. God bless you!!!
So true. Might as well get used to it! :)
I really love the home you made for yourself. It looks so cozy! Very organized and clean, too❤.
I adore the sculpture you brought from Hawaii, plus your dad's I Ching book 😉
Safe travels, Birdie. You are a ray of sunshine .
You are so fun to watch! You are so helpful to let others know the challenges of van life
Thanks for the first draft tour. Seems very well thought out. Travel safe!
Thank you! 🥰
Your front passenger seat looks much like mine --- except things relentlessly tumble out when I open the door 😁
I am not sure how I missed your tour of Tammy. She is a lovely wayward abode. ❤❤❤
We are spirit sisters! I can relate to everything you shared in the video about your health struggles. WHY can’t people understand mental health is a health issue like your example with the missing 27:36 arm?!?! Ugggg-aaa! Have binged your videos and girl, you’re talented in so many ways. You also have beautiful eyes. I’m a total hypocrite as I remind you to try to extend the same grace to yourself that you so clearly extend to others. Thank you for the joy you bring me. Godspeed on your journey. 😅
It’s cozy! You have everything all organized, and all the necessities. Also a home is not a home without a junk drawer..😂..too funny. You make it work. Will you ever do a Q and A? I would like to know how well sleep is? Your bed looks cozy, you did a great job making it, but I just wonder do ever hear sounds outside that keep you awake? Anyways Tammy Lynn Rebecca Smith looks great and a very functional home. Thanks for the tour.
Thank you! So true about the junk drawer. 😁 I'll definitely do a q&a sometime. You can always ask me here, too. :) Yes, I often hear sounds that keep me awake. It's much more a problem when I'm in the city than when I'm out camping in the wilderness. The van walls do not block sound as well as house walls do, and when in the city, I'm usually in a 24 hour parking lot. I can usually tune out the cars, shopping carts, and people talking after a bit. But some cars are especially loud, or they go by so fast, or people will start yelling at each other. All that will wake me up. It's not really an issue when I'm out camping though. Unless there's a storm or something. :)
@@WaywardAbode I am such a light sleeper, I would likely be awake all night. Good for you for being able to drown out some of the noises.
@@thelindaschuknecht Yeah, I'm lucky to be a pretty heavy sleeper. I don't know how I'd do this if I wasn't! lol
Awesome build!! I admire your ingenuity!! As for your desk predicament… I’ve seen one that people have (and I’m sure you could finagle since the pre manufactured ones are expensive).. it’s just a foldable leg attached to the table top which attaches to the top of the cars tire it’s called tire table… it seems like a good solution for the desire for a table which is compact! Just set up a chair and you’ve got a work surface for computer work or even dining table!! Hope my description makes sense!! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Why am I just finding you on CZcams...you Crack me up! Love your style!❤😂
I'm so glad you did find me! Thank you for being a new friend! :)
🇨🇦 I'm with you on "no suffocating feet for me." Lol
I’m so glad I came across your video love them keep us posted
You've done so much with such a small vehicle. It looks like you've got everything you need. In my experience, a camper van is NEVER finished. We are constantly tweaking ours.
Thank you very much. I love arranging and rearranging stuff. So that's actually really cool for me! 😁
You are so pretty and you have a darling personality, love your van❤
So sweet!! Thank you!
When you like a person I wish you could select the laugh or shock face instead of just like. Nice setup
That would be awesome!! Maybe some day we'll be able to do that. :)
You look good with your hair down too!
You are such a sweetheart, I wish you the best with your van
Love your van. It’s so real and practical. I like your sink and curtains.
Thank you! I'm grateful it works, and it'll be fun to improve on it. :)
So enjoy your honesty. Hang in there girl💕🇨🇦
You have such a sweet demeanor! I wish you well.
What a great setup youve got, youve done a brilliant job of your small space. There must be a level of freedom to live this way, youve escaped the matrix. As always you make me smile and just adore you the more I see you, much love from Australia ❤
You are so adorable you're going to get so many people that love you and follow you and I'm going to be one of them I hope everybody watches the commercial so you get lots of money
Love your personality. This video is super informative. Thank you for keeping it real!
Oh my gosh.... I wish I was still in CA to meet you. I love you truthfulness. I lived in my van down by San Francisco for a year.
Wow! Talk about making the best of a bad situation! And so joyously. I'm blown away by what you've done, and happy for those who are lucky enough to experience you're good
cheer. You go girl!
That's so sweet of you to say! Thank you! 🥰
You rock!!! Thank you for your comment. I’m still working full-time but I do love a good vacation and we have camped in our 2017 Toyota Sienna Van. Hopefully soon. Love your videos.
i love your set up, and look forward to seeing your improvements and changes. 😍
Yay!! I'm so glad you're along for the ride!
I think you did a great job building your home! Dont let the judgement of others get to you, and stop judging yourself. A table with telescoping legs may be a solution to your desk situation.
I just love your wit! You crack me up because you are so real and I just adore you!!! So glad I found you!!! So proud of you with all your van accomplishments!!!
Thank you so much!!
Everything looks good
Thank you!!
It always takes time to get it the way you want! At least you have a record of your set up. Looks pretty functional given your needs (I certainly understand the midnight potty dash, being of an age myself). Will be interesting to see how you modify it going forward.
I hadn't even thought of it being a record of its first configuration. That's so cool!! It's definitely gonna be fun to watch it morph. :)
I have a 98 sienna and could not live out of it. You've done a great job.
I bet you could if you had to. Sienna's rock!! :)
I'm currently living in my 2000 Sienna... I put a 100 watt solar panel on it
You did a great job making your van a home for a newbie. You are also a great natural in front of the camera, and funny. Hoping your channel does well. Your honesty is refreshing and gives others the hope that van life is possible. Good luck.
Thank you so much!
WoW! I am amazed at your happy and positive attitude. You have done an amazing job making your space work for you and coping with the reasons you are now a ‘van-lifer’. It must be incredibly difficult, at times, to cope with what life has thrown your way and I admire you very, very much. Well done to you, Birdie! 👏 Love PD from the UK (a female who would be a non-starter in such a hard race..and certainly without your happy and lovely smile) 😊 XXX
Great job! I love the way that you kept some sentimental items.
It was so important to me. I just can't imagine how sad my little van would be without those things. :)
I use humidity absorbers a lot in my house, especially the bathrooms cuz the kids and husband take such long hot showers it seemed like even leaving the exhaust fan on all day just barely helped, so I totally recommend them. I like using the hanging ones in the laundry room, cuz there was no shelf space and I like seeing the moisture accumulate. I recommend buying them in bulk and you can always share or trade with another van lifer. I found these cool foil, resealable, stand-up-able bags that may be a great solution for your spices, I got the ones with a little window so I can see what’s inside and they are reusable. They can pack up small and will collapse as you use up what’s inside. It would be a great way to share your bounty too. That way you can keep a small amount in your kitchen and have excess stuff put away under the bed.
Pro tip: when you get some extra money invest in a good quality insulated mattress, I recommend the Exped Mega Mat 10 or 15 (4” or 6”). They are great, warm, and so comfortable! You can add or subtract air to get the best comfort level that you need. They also can be wiped clean and won’t get soggy or moldy. They have foam inside as well as air. The insulation is rated as a 9.5 and we slept on it, in a tent, on the ground at Mt St Helen’s in the early spring and we were not cold at all! Regarding the windows covers, get a flexible metal yardstick or something similar and tuck it in front of the window to keep the reflectix up, you can get the yardstick cut at a hard wear store.
You look like my sister Rose’s friend Patty. That wouldn’t happen to be you?
I'm not Patty, but it's cool to know I have a twin out there. 😁 Thank you for the great tips. And thank you for being here!
Hello there, what a great presentation of your van! I have been watching tons of these vanlifer's vids, and your presentation was one of my favourite 👍I love that you showed the 'not optimal', errr, 'semi-professional' solutions that you figured out, uncut. Honest, with a lot of humour, and brilliant! Cheers from Norway 😀
That's so cool of you to say! Huge thank you! My daughter and I love Norway and are hoping to visit on day. 🥰
👍I put my pellets into many ziplocs, then they are easy to tuck here and there into unused spaces, and the weight is distributed and changed about. Tho if you stuck a shirt around the bag, and a hat on top, it could look like a sleeping passenger 😂. Your fire extinguisher holder gave me ideas, as I have many candle holders to use. Thanks for the tour❤
Separating the pellets into bags sounds brilliant! Of course, so does making it look like a partner! Lol. I can't decide which I wanna try first. 😁
I'm with you on the coffee creamer. Sweet Creme is addictive....high frutose corn syrup, Rocks!!!😁☕️👍
OMG....your beading talents....AMAZING! For just starting out I think you did good. Tweaking it to fit your needs is the cool part.
Thank you so much!
Hi Birdie... you did a great job especially for a 1st draft. Very homely looking with a cozy twist 😂 I am certain in time your layout and storage ideas will change many times... mine has and I'm not even a full timer. Go with the flow because there's no right or wrong way to do these layouts. Whatever suits you is whats perfect 🥰 love from Australia 💜🇦🇺
Thank you! I, luckily, enjoy organizing and such, so I'm glad to hear changing it over and over is normal. And going with the flow is the only way I know how to roll! 🤣 Love back to you!!
Some great ideas. I like the use of paperclips for holding the curtain.
Thank you! I will say if it's super windy day, they can get blown down. But otherwise, it's super convenient. :)
You did a great job! I would not know how to even start to organize any of it.
I wouldn't have either if it weren't for the wonderful van folks that posted their tours. That's one of the reasons I started a channel. I wanna help folks the way other CZcamsrs have. More info and options is always good, imo.
Gotta love her.she has alot in the van but pretty organize.i hope things get better for her.life can get rough! Hang in there! She has a good attitude.she should have her own reality show!
I love your sense of humor and practicality.
That's so nice of you to say. I'm so glad to meet you! 🥰
Great to see your first gen layout!! I am on to layout like 400 life continues to inspire change!!

For your first build bravo! Now you just have to make it your own 😊
Thank you!!
I love your channel! And I just now see you have a 2000 Sienna😊 I had a 1999, it was my favorite vehicle ever. Drove it to the junkyard after the police ordered it off the road!😂 Yes, the body was that bad😂 Boy, for I miss it
Very brave and powerful that even though you’re in the process of learning you’re sharing your journey. Keep it going!
That's really sweet of you to say. Thank you. ❤️
I love your home, but I love your confidence the most !
Awesome set- up! Fellow I Ching lover here. 💛
Yay!! I have so many memories of my dad saying, "Let's check the book," then pulling out his pennies. 🥰
I love your sense of humor! Made me laugh a few times! I understand about the bed, since I have re-made mine several times over the last year. It is in two parts, too, which makes it easy to move in and out of my minivan when I need to do that. You might try turning those 2x4 legs the other direction to open up a little more space where your containers slide under the bed.
That might do the trick, just turning the legs. Are you happy with how you have your bed now? Thank you!!!
@@WaywardAbode I just finished rebuilding one part of my bed in order to reduce it's size and eliminate all my mistakes from my original bed (Lol, I'm not a builder). That little section is a pullout slat module that is only 19x21, but expands to 19x30 inches. The rest of my bed (22x38 inches) is not a pullout. Since I work on my minivan all the time, my husband is always asking if it's perfect yet. I answer, "It's getting there!" It's fun to rearrange and try new setups. Also, I have found that many things I thought I needed are only in my way, so I've gotten rid of a lot.
@@WaywardAbode Actually, I just REMOVED my bed for the summer when I'm not concerned about a cold van floor. Whether I sleep on a bed (winter) or on the floor (summer), I use two large (new) 4-inch thick orthopedic dog beds for my mattress. End-to-end, they are the right length for me. I enjoy changing things around a lot, and this gives me the most options. The dog beds can also be used as backrests or stacked to make a floor cushion. I like my raised bed, too, but I have more moving around room when I put the bed on the floor. Also, that setup leaves plenty of room to set up a camp chair or to raise one of the back stow-n-go seats up out of the floor.
Throw a pretty piece of cloth or blanket over the toilet and use as your nightstand? If you keep the stuff on it minimal you can grab it and toss on bed when you want to use the toilet during the night. Or use it as a footstool.
