Hi Erica ;) trying to post this for a 3rd time since each time it doesn't seem to show up. From a former Automotive Technician and a mechanical perspective I would recommend you get yourself an Electric Winch to be able to pull yourself out of any situation. They can mount up to your trailer hitch or even the front of the Van, also I would get a good DTC vehicle code reader for check engine lights and other dash lights to save you time and trip to the Stealership :). Something else to have is a good set of tire chains so you can go up hill in rain/snow/grass...etc. Lastly, a good tool set or kit with screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets, sockets, pliers...etc. Some sensors or jobs on a car/van are easier than you may think and worth a go on your own. My previous comments may not have posted since I tried giving you links to the things I mentioned above.
Best of luck and hope this helps!

Thank you for the tips! I started out buying a lot of items to make the inside of the van comfortable. Now it’s time to buy the other practical things you mentioned. This is a great list. Thanks for the info!

It sounds like you would be happier staying at campgrounds or state and national parks.
Yes, it can be challenging to find great camping on the East Coast, especially for more than a few days.
Now that you know you can plan accordingly.
    Good luck to you!

Why don’t you just go to Arizona for wintertime? It’s warmer during winter. It gets cold at night but not freezing and snowing.

What state are you in ? You sound like you woke up one day and decided to live in a van outta the blue. There’s sooo many videos on the lifestyle. Do you know about harvest host ? It’s a membership you join to park at places overnight, you pay under 100 for the year and have many places to park at, not sure if that’s an option where you are. Home Depot or Lowe’s are options, any Cracker Barrel’s near you , they’re good for free spot overnight. There’s also videos out there that cover places to park overnight, you need to do some research girl. Planning is your friend here.

Get a jetboil. It heats things quickly and it's easy to use.

Your best bet on heat is a diesel heater an a service station is handy even if you had to get a gallon or two every day

Do you have a county fair grounds close to you? Our county fair grounds allows you to park over night and sleep there for free in the front parking lot. I straight up don’t think I could live in my car. I don’t know your reason for living in your van but I myself would probably apply to live in section 8 apartments.

Oooooh, you're speaking my language. I'm over it. It's not for me. I feel like the reward to struggle ratio is way off. I've had the van for just over a year, and am already thinking about an exit plan. 😣

Sounds like you can definitely relate. It is a struggle but now I’ve made it better by taking weekly van breaks and staying at friends houses. Are you living in it full time?

Some folks in these comments are MEAN. Here’s my two cents:
    1. Find local free classes or activities to reduce boredom and loneliness.
    2. Plan out sleeping locations in advance as often as possible to reduce costs and increase stability, predictability, and comfort
    3. Find coffee shops, libraries, etc. to give you a comfortable indoor location during the day
    4. Take your time showering at Planet Fitness… you paid for a membership so take your time and shave, pluck, exfoliate, moisturize, etc.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 girrrrlllllll. You need to go home lol. But this was funny to watch. Sounds like you just don’t wanna live the life. I’ve seen many women vanlifers who doll themselves up daily. Your efforts in vanlife have to shift from being in a house to being vanlife if you really want it.

  • @Jay-ud6jv

You definitely should have done a lot more research before you just through a kid and a dog in a van deciding to live in it. You keep comparing a van to a home. Of course it's going to be completely different. And if it was stealth living you are looking to accomplish. You should have realized you cannot go parking it Winnebago trying to go unnoticed. This is not stealth living this is living in an RV. I'm just saying. Strongly look into a diesel heater or follow the weather

I think van life was meant for single people with no children. You need to be in stationary home with bedrooms and a kitchen. It has got be even harder on you because it's hard on single van lifers. This is just my opinion but you do you.
