  • This is my review of the Malone Stage II tune.
    I talked about the inside sound of the cabin with the delete kit.
    Normal and fast acceleration in drive and in sport mode.
    And talk about the MPG

    With a stock 2014 Touareg TDI at 156k miles I get 32-34MPG at 60-65MPH in warm weather. If I speed up to 75-80MPH it drops to 27-28MPG. A slight change in throttle position makes a HUGE difference in fuel economy. Cruise control drops my fuel economy by several MPG as it can't plan ahead for hills or changing traffic conditions. Has anyone else noticed this?

    on my TDI, I have the gear suppression turned off so that it shows the actual gear its in instead of just "D" or "S", it shows D5 lets say in 5th gear, or S7 in 7th gear. Super easy to do with Carista or VAGCOM.

    Can you do a outside of the car sound so we know what it sounds like outside also when you did the acceleration example from 30 until you let off when you did it in drive your miles per gallon went down to 5.5 when you were flooring it which is exactly what mine does but when you floored it in sport mode it only went down to 11 point something were you flooring it or has the air to fuel ratio changed that much with the tune?

    • @markb6s4
      @markb6s4  Před 3 lety

      Yup, that will be in the works when I get the time. I'll talk about the whole exhaust system and sound. good eye, i actually didn't even notice that til you mentioned that. Yes i was flooring it on both modes. And as to why they where different i honestly do not have an answer to that. The power is still the same for both. All that changes is the response and as to when the gears should change on normal driving.

    Nice review. I'd suggest doing a hand calculation for MPG vs the MMI display.

    Not long ago but in summer like temps, I did a trip from Detroit to Northern Michigan and back and managed to get 749mi on one tank, I beleive it had used 24gal, which is around 31mpg, I was expecting to see a big jump maybe 4-5mpg improvement with all emissions deleted, I guess they dont really hinder performance as much as we think they do.

    So is the tune just for the dpf delete and economy or are there power gains? Does it make any smoke at all? Does it come with multiple tunes for power levels also?
    Dude we should meet up I would like to show you all the new things I have done to my car since the last time you seen it.
    BTW great review.

    • @markb6s4
      @markb6s4  Před 3 lety

      The tune pretty much bypasses all the sensors that are not needed that are emissions so that you don't get a CEL. And at the same time it is also for more power Gains! When you modify a Diesel you get more power and more MPG. That's the benefit of diesels. As for gasoline engines it's the opposite. More power requires more fuel, equals less mpg

    • @driller524
      @driller524 Před 3 lety

      @@markb6s4 Marc. If you turn up the fuel pressure and make black smoke your mpg will decrease but you will make more power. Gasoline engines are the same but depending on application like say a turbo engine can be tuned lean for better fuel economy but you risk high egt's so if you have a cat you need a richer lambda so you don't melt it internally. Same with diesel to much fuel equals higher EGT's. As for my car I have 4 variants of lambda depending on current conditions like boost pressure or engine load percentage. Say I am cruising the highway in eco mode it will be in stable burn variant (lean) for fuel economy then when I give it more boost the lambda table will increase afr to a richer ratio to keep the exhaust valves and turbo from melting.

    • @driller524
      @driller524 Před 3 lety

      @@markb6s4 I was just wondering if the premade tunes you use have power level estimates. And if there are multiple tunes to turn up the timing and fuel and boost or is this just mostly focused on dpf delete and economy.

    Also! You need to remove those 2 plastic intake pipes directly after your throttle body where the EGR sh#ts (or used to). Easy to remove. Why? Mine and most others (on Rennlist) were packed with black soot blocking the air flow. As in 1/2 inch around the entire diameter! I've never seen anything like it. It's most likely the same in the upper intake manifold, but I read that's a super PITA to remove. Instead, I hooked up a shop vac (with a custom small diameter hose attachment) and gently ran a flexible cable 12ga shotgun bore brush and the hose through the openings which was very productive. I need a borescope and revisit. FWIW, I have 84k miles vs your 44k. The stock EGR setup on these V6 diesels is a disaster. Let me know if you want to see pics or further info.

    Great videos. I watched all 4. Too bad these weren't here when I did the Malone stage 2 and DPF delete on my 2013 Cayenne Diesel 2 years ago. LOL. My notes: I get smoke on any accel beyond gentle. Rolling nut coal, not quite cummins coal. Only sucks because it leaves a greasy black film across the entire WHITE ass end that needs soap to remove. Quick detailer just smears it. I still have the stock cat and muffler. My Rawtek pipe looks different and doesn't include any muffler. FwIW, my shifting appears considerably more sporty and precise than your Q7. I bagged all the sensors in heavy black Dollar store balloons and zip tied them closed. I'm considering the catless DP, but Malone told me the stock one isn't very restrictive and is almost see-through. I wouldn't know. Is it? Overall, love this vehicle, the tune, and the DPF delete. The black ass end is the only [slight] annoyance.

    • @markb6s4
      @markb6s4  Před 2 lety

      You'll want to maximize airflow as much as possible. I recommend deleting the cats. Maybe Porsche has their own tune on the transmission maybe it's why its more sporty then the Audi/VW version. I personally don't know

    I am sorry but I saw the performance and my stock 240HP/427Tq Q5 2014 would keep up with you if not better stock vs your stage 2. I literally get pulled way back in the seat at any speed and only need to get rid of the regen on the DPF in the winter that happens all the time after a 5 minute shutdown. Why the Q5 has more factory power than a Q7 I do not know and I test drove both and the Touareg and hands down the 5 was way quicker. Definitely better fuel economy though with your tune. If I could get the tune back to pre-dieselgate I would be happy with the stock system.
