The only way to do this right is to build an UnRaid server. Then add Plex to it. I’m currently running this with 100TB in 12 hot swap bays. Currently adding a 15 drive JBOD.
What exactly is an UnRaid server? I can't get the Snyology DM1821+ NAS to work with 4K with either Roku or Nvidia Shield Pro. Should I get rid of the NAS and get a JBOD? And the server, set that up as the, "UnRaid" on some kind of PC?
Until your software crashes and your hard drives could need resetting so you lose all your data
@@mfkhometheater7742 , this is a huge subject. I am not typing for hours on a phone. You have google, please research what unraid, jbod, and many other thing are and understand over 50% before you drop $$$.$$.
@@TheStestone , I see you do not understand or know unraid and how it works. I loose zero data if unraid software goes bad.
Thank you so much!!!
hi there;
i have a logitech z906 5.1 sound sistem and i have a plan,
the plan is to use the z906 hardware to bult a hifi sound bar including the bass and all 5 speaker and control panel.
what do u think about this, can i transform the z906 to a amateur hifi?
thank you for this bro. I will def look into it. Just a quick question. I live in Denmark where many releases only got the scandinavian languages subtitles. Is it possible to download some subtitles to my movies after I added them on plex?
You can. I have never done it, but if you do a quick google search there’s a lot of information on how to do it
Hey Nick, I'm really considering getting this set up as I was about to purchase a Dune Smartbox Media Player specifically to keep some movies on. I was wondering if the Nvidia Shield will also store media files like pictures/files?
I ask as my husband is a body tech for a certain Collision company. The insurance companies they work with require proof of EVERYTHING that needs repair/replacement & then pictures of when it's also been fixed/replaced. He has thousands (literally thousands) of pictures on his phone that he wants to get rid of to free up space on his phone. But the issue is he also needs to keep them (& organize) and b/c he doesn't know until when he needs to keep them(audits & what not), this would be PERFECT for the both us. Mainly for him as he can just access it form his phone.
Great question. It does allow for pictures. I’ve never personally used it, so I can’t comment on for good it is. But it is a feature of Plex.
Do you still get Dolby Vision and Atmos when you rip the discs?
You do. But you need to make sure that whatever you play it on can decide it. That’s the reason I really love the Nvidia shield pro. It will play back your Dolby Vision as well as your Dolby Atmos uncompressed.
Have tried Plex. But I hesitate to buy a blu ray reader to rip my physical media. Understand it is difficult to find the correct one. Any tips on a working reader?
If it’s just Blu-ray, you won’t have an issue with any Blu-ray drive. But if you’re also wanting to do 4K, then you’re gonna wanna get a 4K friendly drive. I posted some in the links of the description. You can also check out this site and link for more information. forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19634
Can the Nvidia Shield work with the Synology DS1821+ NAS with Plex? I'm trying the Synology with Roku and it doesn't work. It can play 480p but that's about it. So can the Nvidia connect to the network and stream 4K from the ripped files on the Synology? I'm going crazy here, nothing works, it's preventing me from getting anything done on my theater. Thanks, MFK
I have the DS923+ and it streams 4k perfectly to the Nvidia Shield. Make sure in the Plex app you have audio pass through on, and also make sure you are not transcoding. When playing a video press, the down arrow and click the three dots. From there select playback info. The source should say direct play. if it says transcode on either the video or the audio, then that might be your issue.
And your Plex settings under video call make sure it has home streaming set to maximum and audio set to original. Under the advanced options make sure it says pastor HDMI. I should mention as well that I am hardwired with all my Nvidia shields
@@Toid Looks like enabling DLNA server may have fixed it but we need to verify further. Right now it looks like it works with the Roku. I might still pick up an Nvidia Shield Pro just to check it out and to have a 2nd player option in the home theater. Thanks for the fast response, you have no idea how frustrating this has been getting, I need a drink, do you have any Rum?;-)
Anyway, thanks for the quick reply and happy new year!

@@mfkhometheater7742 glad to hear it! As far as the rum goes, you might need to ask Captain Jack Sparrow. Happy New Year!
@@Toid Yes, Captain Sparrow should have plenty aboard the Black Pearl;-) Looks like a nearby Buy More... I mean Best Buy has the Nvidia Shield Pro in stock so I'll head over tomorrow... well, later today that is and get one. It will be good to have two options for playback.
I had uninstalled the Plex media player from the NAS and reinstalled so it's currently cataloging the entire movie library again. It's playing 1080P perfectly even as the NAS is chattering away doing the cataloging but glitchy with 4K. I suspect that once it's done with the library it will play 4K without issue. It wouldn't even play 1080P before enabling DNLA.
@@Toid Well, unfortunately 4K still doesn't work even after the library cataloging completed. I just put in the Nvidia Shield Pro and the problem is the same. Could I have a NAS setting wrong? Isn't your NAS just a smaller version of the DS1821+? If yours works, this one should too.
Is this legal ?
