Remove White Mold from Houseplant Soil

  • The white mold that you have found in your house plants soil is just mold that’s feeding on decaying matter in your soil. This is pretty normal and consider not a big deal for house plants. It does look unsightly but that’s about the only harm it’s going to do. Your house plant soil is full of decaying matter and that’s what dirt essentially is so they have a little bit of mold on the top of it isn’t abnormal.
    To get rid of the white mold on your house plants soil you can just take your finger and start mashing up the mold. You can literally just blend this into the soil that’s already in the pot. If this really bothers you you can also take a metal spoon and sort of just remove it from the pot itself. It’s very easy to physically removed from the soil and you can just move on with your day after removing it.

    Cinnamon is as natural as it gets. It is literally a type of tree bark. And an anti fungal. Don't be afraid to look things up. Stay Curious!

      He is meaning you don't find ground cinnamon in nature to sprinkle all over your plant. In nature, plants dont treat themselves with cinnamon 😂😂 don't be afraid to look things up.

      Yep it's basic info how cinnamon became a common solution vs molds & fungus when you're nearer to a grocery than in the area with a cinnamon bark or where anti-fungal solutions abound. If people just went beyond curious & looked it up, and if his fans understood what you pointed out instead of getting triggered & resort to being juvenile in their replies, he won't look ignorant & his fan defensive.
      My eyebrow also raised when he kept referring to the soil as decaying matter. It's the decaying matter IN the soil that contributes to fungal formation. But in his case, that plant's leaves aren't many for decay to trigger the process. It's the lack of cross ventilation (not just absence of air circulation), blocked light source, & that bucket of excess water that results in a stuffy environment and great breeding ground for fungus or molds.

    I tried the sprinkling of ground cinnamon on my plants and it did't work. Also tried the baking soda mixed in water spray too and also didn't work! So this video helped! =)

    I put some seeds of basil in completely new soil in a pot, gave it some water and put a plastic bag to keep it humid. After 2 days I saw some small mold marks at 2, 3 points and one of the seeds is already growing, a tiny bit which is exciting. I do not think it's anything to worry about.

    • @acajoom
      @acajoom Před 3 měsíci

      @@rp7921 I removed it with my finger and added a tiny layer of soil on top. I just do not know how much to water the seeds but I already see 4, 5 of them reached 1cm height. I put a plastic bag cover and keep them in a tiny room where I have my PCs running to keep them warm. I am learning ! I just add a tiny bit of water every 1 or 2 days for now.

    So uh, does having all those houseplants make the air inside your house seem more awesome? As a comparision, if you go to a friend's house with zero houseplants, does the air there seem different? Inquiring minds wants to know this stuff!

    I'm curious as what the leaves look like when the plant has the white mold. Will the leaves get damaged and what type of damage would it be? And should I cut the leaves off if they look damaged?
    And thank you for answering a lot of my questions that I was looking for while looking around the internet.

      No. Lack of minimum effort to understand the basic science behind fungal formation & not realizing how his suffocating house set-up encouraged its formation in the first place. Also, his rationale behind questioning the use of cinnamon is just 😂

    • @schulend
      @schulend Před 7 měsíci

      @@jo-vg His point was that you don't have to overthink some of these things. With all those plants he had to search for a plant with white mold, so not sure about your comment on his setup, also as someone else pointed out below, his point was plants don't go around sprinkling cinnamon on themselves, but he then goes on to say do it if you want, no harm, so your condescending laughing emoji feels a little uncalled for. Lighten up, it's a house plant video. Geez.

    • @jo-vg
      @jo-vg Před 7 měsíci

      @@schulend to "overthink" presumes that this video tried "think" first. It's watching a perceived public service tip teetering towards misinformation. The fact that he was confident to find AND did find a plant with fungal formation in an impromptu search proves my point.
      My being "condescending" to fragile hearts is merely pointing out (with a sense of concern) that recording an opinion/experience believing it to be the logical explanation & without simple background on cinnamon is a display of carelessness & points more into being driven by monetizing misleading content than actually sharing science-backed info. And you really believe that this needs to spread?😂 --> crying on the inside really

    I bought a bag of contaminated soil and the mold is deeper than just the top. Should I worry? I still have the bag of soil. I contacted the company (Miracle Grow) and haven't heard from them yet. I'm new to this and I don't want to lose all the plants I've worked so hard to grow. Most of them are propagates so I had to wait a long time just to see a second leaf.
