  • Can You Sterilize Your Soil? The answer is yes. In this video I will talk about 3 Ways To Sterilize Your Soil. Balcony Gardeners don't have a lot of space & often have to start seed sowing indoors. By sterilising your soil you can reduce pests & save money from purchasingnew soil.
I show you how to sterilise your soil with boiling water, how to oven sterilize your soil and how to microwave your soil. These techniques will help you make sure that your soil for indoor seed starting is pest free.

Am I paranoid or is there something going on with potting soil that I've not had issues with in the past? My green thumb has turned brown and I've not changed my habits. This world is crazy and with farmers and fertilizers under attack, are these policies transferring through to potting soils to prevent humanity from growing self- supporting gardens? I find it odd. Am I alone?

Now I'm trying it again but this time I decided to come and check CZcams to see if anyone has used boiling water to clean the soil. And here I found your video. So right now I just poured a pot of boiling water and it's resting in my sink to cool. Before I transplant any plant in it I will add some fertilizer and grind eggshell. This plant will be in the house over the winter. Soil is too expensive for me to buy every year.

DORMANT larvae are in those bags of soil, and to re-activate you only need moisture. This is why soil sterilization doesnt work for fungus gnats, but it will kill ALL the good and bad bacteria in your soil, which isn't good either. Store bought soil need to be dry as a bone for at least 14-21 days or longer, to ensure f. Gnats larvae and their Next Gen are non-viable before adding a drop of water.

      It's actually probably 180° F.
75° C and above gets rid of most microbes, there's no need to go to 180°C. Other sources also recommended 82-93° C. Higher might do more harm than good.

Fahrenheit. If it was 180°C, that would be over 350°F, and anything above ~200°F will start to release toxins, even with organic soil.

Seems to kill other bacteria regardless. Here in Australia the biosecurity at customs uses gamma rays for anything wooden you bring in in your passenger baggage. So they're the next step above microwaves on the electromagnetic spectrum.

Boiling water method kills the good microbes in your soil. Even if you cook or freeze the soil to kill bugs It Must have new amendments and micro nutes added or your plants will not like it at all and you just wasted a plant an time. Yes I learnt from experience. Keep it up tho knowledge shared is never a bad thing
