Thanks for the tip! (Treatment starts at 5:38)
Another great remedy is 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide to 3 parts water, great for the mold as well as fungus gnat larvae 😉
It’s me Rebecca B yes! Kill 2 birds w one stone 😊
Thats quite strong as far as i am concerned, especially for white mold. I use 1 part peroxide to 9 parts water, and it still took care of the mold problem just fine. (As well as saved me a lot of peroxide comparatively, which is good because i have a ton of plants to treat. )
how often can you use it?... because i’ve been using it every 5-6 weeks to prevent it
I tried this, twice, with two different strengths and new soil. I washed my plants thoroughly, and I had fungus again in two days.
I'm using cinnamon and it's helping the fungus, but my soil isn't draining well. I used 40% perlite and chicken grit and 60% peat moss. Which worked last year, but isn't working this year. Idk 🤦🏻♀️
My bf (mycology enthusiast) says peroxide does stop the spread of certain shoes, but white mold spores get all over your house and are tough.
Sure does kills the good bacteria too
I found white mold on my prayer plant, after sprinkling some baking soda it almost killed my plant! I ended up repoting him, and when I did I discovered he had more mold and may have been root bound! He’s been in the pot for a few days now, I’m praying he’ll bounce back! This plant traveled 900+ miles with me to live in my new home, I don’t wanna lose him 🥺 definitely gonna try the cinnamon trick for next time!!
I just found some white mold this morning! Thanks for the video!!
Kaileigh Fredericks I hope it helps you get rid of it 😊
I freaked when I saw white mold!! But now I’m dealing with algae😭 thank u for the video❤️
Dartania Henderson if the algae is on your water propagations, I think it should be fine. That’s the only time I’ve had algae. It doesn’t look pretty, but if it bothers me too much, I just switch out the water more often. I don’t know of a fix for it though 🤥
Ugh! Some of my plants have that. It seems to happen more in the ones in plastic plant pots. I guess, in my case, it has to be lack of airflow through the soil. Another great informational video. 💁🏻♀️🌱👍🏻
Same plastic pot my poor plant BTW I'm growing baby spinach and cilantro
Never thought of Cinnamon for white mold. With the new soil I use, I dry it out the part that is prepackaged. when I mix the soil and the fired clay pebbles together I let it dry out before use as it flows like water around the roots, and then water the soil heaps when I re pot. I found I never have had mold or fungus. I found most pre package soil contains mushroom compost which will breed mushrooms and mold and insects. If I have sick or bad soil I do a full re pot and wash roots of all soil, Same for insects as they can have eggs in the soil or plant and gives me a chance to see the whole tree, I think ocd gets me to do that lol. Also some of my trees a worth a lot and a lot to me so that's why also, Its also a good chance to see if the roots are affected. Great video and very informative, You are doing great. What I do is more for bonsai, I just thought it may help someone out with a different prospective. I love what you are doing and teaching, keep up the great work and look forward to the next one.
This was super helpful, saved my avocado plant! Thank you!
I recently repotted and transplanted my potted plants that outgrew their pots a few weeks ago. Ironically mold grew just days after applying a small amount of Miracle Grow and then the gnats came. I moved my plants inside recently as well. Thank you so much for the informative video!
Good morning to you Erica, I have always wondered what the white stuff is on some of my plants. I thought it was mineral buildup for using faucet water. I actually thought 💭 of using unfinished bottled water. “ there wasn’t enough to go around lol” so I stopped worrying about it!!!
I did however invested in a 3 in 1 moisture, acidity, and light 💡 meter. I have to tell everyone that was the best thing you can do for your plants 🌱 🌱 🌱 🌱 🌱 🌱 🌱. I haven’t had any molds since and haven’t overwatered either. This was an excellent topic for all of us plant collectors. I did want to mention about how to use the moisture reader. There were no instructions with mine. I looked it up and found a few articles on the way you should take a reading. It said to stick the two prongs in at half way from the center of your plant and half way to the pots edge. How far to go down, said push prongs down to the halfway point of the meters length of your pot. I was sort of all over the place when I first started using it. I kept getting very different readings too. Thank you for the knowledge I can never learn too much specially because I spend a lot for my beautiful plants 🌱.
Oh I wanted to say I just bought a senseviera “moonshine from Amazon very similar looking to whale fin plant. I opened the box and was so disappointed cause over half of the tips of the plant were broken over. I bought from someone I’ve never bought from before . I just hope that it grows into a nice looking plant and the foliage callouses over. I took my clean pruners and cut them off with an shapely manicure. 😭 so sad. I hate when people are not trained in packing live plants. Thanks again for the video. Take care of your baby plants 😊. ✌️TW
Theresa Watkins good morning 🤗☀️
There can be mineral buildup, mold is more fuzzy looking.
I have one as well 😊 I agree that testing the soil in different places is a good method to use.
It’s unfortunate that your plant came so mishandled /: at least you were able to make it look nice again 😇
My wheatgrass have mould in it. But thank god ur remedy helped me to make it healthier again. Now my plants are sweat & lovely as you 😍😘
This is *THE* video I needed! My neon pothos has mold in its soil and I just left it there because I did read they're harmless. Thanks for the tips!
And it worked?
@@marliesbunker2601 It did :)
Thank you for actual advice with experience! My peppers aren't doomed!
Ive never seen a jewel orchid that big before, amazing 😍
YinYangx3 when I saw it, I had to buy it. They grow very fast, but I only have small jewel orchids. It will probably take 2 years for them to get as big as this one
This young lady is very knowledgeable. Appreciate the info.
You really come up with the most interesting videos! Very helpful!
Bernie A. Oh thank you so much 😁
I repotted my snake plants last week and noticed white mold on the soil of one plant. I did water and fertilize after repotting and noticed it after a week. I think I packed the soil a little too much. I did sanitize the potting soil before hand and did a 50/50 mix of soil and perlite. I scooped the mold off the top and loosened the succulent soil up with a butter knife. I'm going to try the cinnamon trick too. I don't want this to happen again
Ah this is so helpful, thanks so much!
For me I definitely overwatered. The crushed eggshells I added for nourishment may also have contributed since its organic and therefore is being broken down on the wet soil. I covered the top in humid plastic. All very bad combinations clearly. I removed the plastic, added cinnamon and won't be watering for a good while. I guess I'll see where it goes.
Whoohoo! Erika as always awesome informative video keep them coming. Thumbs Up!
Roger Noriega 😁 thank you for your support 🤩🤗
super helpful for my peace lily and spider plants, thank u!!!!
this was so helpful, thank you :)
Thanks for the video, does watery mildew transferred from the plant to the soil? because my yucca is still suffering for wks from watery mildew, I removed all of the infected leaves but the newly growing leaves now are very soft and I can tell the plant is not healthy at all, I tried baking soda, vinegar, cinnamon, milk but didn't help.
Awesome video as usual. Yes, we're going through "white mold", too. Ciao
Khoi Chokdee now we just gotta get rid of it haha
@@ErikaLodes Yes, and you have the real Saigon Cinnamon. FYI, if you didn't already know this: there's "Real" Cinnamon, and lower grades of cinnamon. Ciao
Sigh, I have white mold and I used a 50/50 soil and pearlite mixture. I know my soil isn’t contaminated because I’ve use it with other plants and there is no mold in those. I will try the cinnamon! Thank you 😊
I hope it works for you!
I don’t worry about white mold killing the houseplant, I worry about it creating spores in the air that could effect my health. I’ve been having allergy symptoms for 2 months and have changed everything else, airfilter,
Heppafilter, etc and this mold I’ve discovered around my houseplants the last possible culprit.
How do I know if its fuzz from mold or spider mite fuzz?
Did we have troubles saying overly moist? 🥰 that was cute😂
can i sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the plant’s soil with molds?
what a lovely video helps a lot thank you
Can anyone help me out I’m new to planting and I got some plants from Lowe’s and I heard mostly plants from Lowe’s have fungus gnats I noticed one the other day on my snake plant but I wanted to play it safe and not hurt my plant. I was planning on using the peroxide method and then repotting the plant and taking off mostly all the old soil out. Or should I repot the plant and then go ahead and do the peroxide method to kill any bad bacteria I just wanna repot my plant and know the soil is fine and away from any fungus gnats! Please drop some tips or suggestions!!!
i got to see small spots like that today only in my croton , i was literally freaking out there thankyou for info. few leaves also fell after becoming yellow, i am so scared about this white shit, plz do tell why my leaves are falling ? is it just bc of white mold or somthing else
Would it be a good idea to mix a little cinnamon into your potting mixes as a preventive measure?
Very Little Cinnamon… because Cinnamon will dry up your plant’s roots!! Been there done that! 🤦🏾♀️
@@cassandra364 Thank you so much for that information!
Loved your video! Is that neon pothos behind you? I have one as well and I’m so proud of it because of how well it’s growing ! Just subscribed
Love that you focused on the core issues as well as how natural your approach is to your plants
Also, your jewel orchid is beautiful! I hope this helped it :)
It hasn’t had mold since, thank you so much!
Ik I’m kinda late (very very late😂😂) but I was wandering; could I use regular cinnamon instead of the special ground one you used?
thank you great help good information nice plants
Thanks for info 🌹
I've never seeing this problem before my question is I put E eggr water on my plant I've had the eggplant water for a list 67 maybe more than and that's when I saw t the mold
Thank you! Off to sprinkle cinammon.
The soil around my pineapple plant Is getting a little bit moldy at the top of the soil but it’s not dying
That is good that it’s not dying
Thank you!!
I don’t see the need of getting rid of it. I had it in my plant for three years and it didn’t harm my plant, it was very beautiful. When I changed the plant to a bigger pot it stopped growing because got covered.
It can give people skin rashes, particularly on the leg below the knee and it adds to the mold in the air around the house (window seals)
Thank you 🙏🏾
gorgeous and informative! great video!!

Whenever I water, I run a fan for 48h to ensure the top layer dries out.
You are so cute! Thank you for the video!
How to get rid of Brown mold?
wow, as an long time orchid owner, i know cinnamon helps to heal cuts on leaves. never thought of it as fungicide. thanks! :) i don't have white mold problem, but, as you said, there are not many chances for this mold at my place. all your tips i follow naturally, bc old houses, like mine, can grow molds much worse and nastier, than that. preventative measures are everyting :) and i use friendly bacteria and fungi to help plants immune system. i can look for scientific names, so anybody can research that just in case.
well, as side note, while my first croton was on quarantine a mushroom grew on its coco coir substrate. an actual mushroom, not kidding. things just strange sometimes...
akacjabiala that’s good. Prevention is the best thing you can do.
That’s so funny, a whole mushroom! I feel like that’s happened to me before, but not recently. & it was on a plant that I kept outside. Just comes out of nowhere 💁🏼♀️
Can I just use store bought fungicide????
Much Much Special Thanks Ericka, you have given me peace of mind Shalom Selah Amen 🙏 🙌 😊!!!!.
I have my plants in the restroom is that bad for them
I was reading your brain 🤣 but great vid 👍🏽💯
Hi, I see some really really tiny bugs in the soil of my indoor plant,
Is it harmful?
How can I get rid of it?
Thank you
hiya! i don't know since i haven't seen them, but it sounds like soil mites? i have them too - they aren't harmful but you can get rid of them by soaking the plant's roots and then giving it some fresh soil! hope this helps x
They’re probably fungus gnats lol they’re a pain in the ass but a top dressing helps a lot
How can I rid my worm bin?
Omg I am so crazy. Ive been watching you for so long and thought I’ve been subscribed this whole time but funny enough it turns out I wasn’t and in fact I’ve been subscribe (to a different but still awesome) channel that I thought you just had a name change. The channel is called lessya’s leaves and pls confirm that you are not the same person 😭😣 lol I never noticed that I constantly got you guys’ videos mixed up until now! I feel terrible. Am I just crazy bc not only do you guys look similar, your voice, style of videos and even filming space sometimes are similar! Maybe I am just crazy...I’m so sorry if i am also just being rude :(
Now I am officially subscribe! But I promise I’ve been watching for a while 😭😭
Thank you for the tips! I wonder if you know what this white powdery(?) stuff on a calathea medallion is...it’s not mealy bugs or any pest, and it seems to rub off but eventually comes back. I hope my calathea will be okay :( it’s my first one so I’m praying I didn’t choose a sick one or something.
frozen-yogurt-yes that’s so funny 😂😂 no, we’re different people. I love her channel! I didn’t know we were so similar tho hahahahaha, that is a compliment 🤗
Thank you for FINALLY subscribing! Lol jk 😉
It might be powdery mildew which is a fungus that looks like flour. I’m not sure how yours looks. You can try spraying a 3:7 ratio of milk & water, see if that helps!
I have been using hydrogen peroxide mixed with water as a temporary fix until I have time to report to a better mixture. I believe I got that tip from Harli G. I will have to try the cinnamon though.
Vintage Elements yes, hydrogen peroxide works too! It makes me nervous to use 😅 if the cinnamon doesn’t work, I would say to use the hydrogen peroxide.
hydrogen peroxide kills roots.
What if the mold is green
It's not work for me. The white mold still grow on top of cinnamon. I 'll try other solutions 😔
HELP HELP HELP
My new green marantas leaves are drouping and curling in word and like really soft and bendy I am so scared 😨
Is your humidity high enough? Need 70 percent humidity
I have two of them and one is acting like this and neither have humidity also thank you for the tip
Lilly Nicodemus I see you’ve had your problem solved, but yes marantas need humidity. Hopefully that’ll work for them 💚🌿
Pretty and smart. What's not to like.
Hola me gustan tus plantas y me susctibi.estan muy bonitas gracias sorry no escribir ingles hablo muy poquito.😍
Beutiful vloger😘
Yay! i have had this too. i use my home made colloidal silver to spray and kill all fungus and bacteria while giving micro particles of silver which is a nutrient that is farmed out of our crops now and depleted.
Cathy wow that’s cool 🤩
Do you mind sharing your blend for this spray?
I actually take silver for immunity support when I need it. I never thought about using it on plants, what are your portions for the spray mixture?
@@karoneharris5048 I spray mine in a little amber bottle once a month across the top of the soil to help with fungus
Cathy Thanks Mrs. Cathy! I’m just learning about taking care of house plants and I’m bit overwhelmed. So thanks for the help!! I’m definitely going to try this.
The mold is totally harmless 😉
my strawberries died because of mold 🙁😔 now i know what to do, and to avoid
honestly, I don't mind the fact that my plant developed mold on the soil. It's normal and I understand that. However, I just potted my plant last night and when I woke up this morning there was already visible mold on the surface of the soil and I had only done the initial watering. Floral brand potting mix was what I used btw in case you want to avoid it like the plague.
Same issue with that brand
Can I scope the mold out of the soil?
Yes!
👍👍
Perv! 😆 My dirty mind was also giggling at every sexual innuendo. 🤭 Great video though very informative and helpful, I got some terra cota pots with white mold on the outside. 😅
Straight cutie dang.
I tried cinnamon on my calathea and it’s even worse now 😭 soil change I think 🤦🏻♀️ it was worth a try though 😂😂
Same thing happened to my plants . It’s not a good idea using cinnamon . 😬My plants died. I had to change the soil. 😔
Since the white molds ( Saprophytic fungus ) on the too of the soil are harmless , I will just brush them off as per another Plant Tuber’s advice. And the molds will go. 😊
@@user-sh1mj1wo2w in the end I added a new fan to my set up and opened the windows more often and it worked wonders .
mold!!?!?!?!
Dale Gribble mold!!!
never knew this was a problem
Daily Affinity it’s good that you haven’t had it!
Baking Soda WILL change your Ph , just like Vinegar will ?!?!?!?! ........ CINNAMON is Best?
haha.... moist
Guys, this white mold is called mycorrhizal fungi and it's good for your plant!
It keeps it healthy and helps it grow. Green and black mold = bad, white mold = good!
Do some research on mycorrhizal fungi and keep your plants healthier than ever
I haven't had an issue with white mold in my soil in forever until I got this tradescantia wandering jew. Boooo. It needs to go away. Lol I threw it in front of a fan to dry the soil out quicker (I repotted it yesterday).
Good Life Green Tropics perfect! It should be fine in no time 😊
6:28 How to get rid of white mold.
vinegar is known to kill plants, so I'd not use that
Diluted apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar
"Overly moist" Did that tickle you.
Cinnamon and Hydrogen Peroxide.
talk to much get to point
5 minutes in just for you to say common sense & not say anything useful yet
Thanks for that my Zebra plant has that white grey mold on the soil. 🫣😒
I have poinsettias that o am trying to keep alive. They had not been watered since before they arrived to me. I read that since it's winter where I am and they're a warm climate tree that I should only water then when they're dry. The soil always felt wet and spongey to me do I didn't water them until today. They arrived to me I think November 29th and today is December 15th. They had some mold on the top of their soil so after I watered them I sprinkled them with cinnamon. I'm hoping they do well. Some are making new leaves. They live in my kitchen which is the warmest place in the house since we keep the house at 63 degrees year round. In the kitchen it's above 65. Maybe 68.
