    Part 2 on making my used truck great again, installing some bilstein 5100's, as well as a matching steering stabilizer, some new fog lights, a small toolbox and new dual exhaust. Also I crank the torsion bars up a little. This truck is really driving great now, only a few more little things to work out. At the end I discuss the cost of everything.

    Being an Aussie it's hard to watch you guys being able to buy a Chev truck for that cheap and parts to suit. Lol...
    Very jealous.
    I'd suggest a stuck or stiff caliper slide or look to control arm bushes, allowing the affected side to pull back under braking...
    Rotors would generally cause a vibration under brakes. Weird things happen though,. but you seem like a pretty switched on bloke so I'm sure you'll get it right. Your accent is exactly what I'd imagine a guy that builds Peterbuilt's for a living would sound like..
    Really enjoy your channel and the builds and projects you share.
    Cheers mate 👍

    I have one of these, but a 2002. I love the truck, had no idea it utilizes a steering stabilizer! I need to go to take a look. Also have an exhaust leak up at the header, I had my local dealership check that out and they told me that one of the bolts had backed out half way and then rusted. They felt like it might be a disaster to even try to take it out. Anyway, I love your videos here, glad I found them. I'll be checking in!

    I’m currently running the same shocks on my 1999 1500 Silverado Z71 also replaced the OE originals I’ve put almost 70K on them (almost time for a new set maybe) definitely rides better than OE. I recently replaced all the O2 sensors no codes but they were original and have been on the truck for 200K my MPG is back to an avg 17MPG it was starting to dip into the 12MPG range before hand.

    I have those same shocks on my Dodge and they do ride really well. Got some little stuff like that to do to my truck, just did some electrical work. Wish I could afford to get it painted, 23 year old blue paint didn't hold up as well as some other colors. Not happy with how well the powder coat on the traction bars held up.

    What kinda dual exhaust is that ? What are other good types of dual exhaust for a 03 1500 HD 6.0?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  Před 3 lety

      I’m no expert on exhaust. This was an off brand magnaflow that the place had laying around. I like the magnaflow sound, less raspy than others. Only other I’ve had was a flow master and it was definitely louder. Had it ran the same as I do on here. But that was in a 5.3 tahoe.

    @drewarthur2169 Před 3 lety +1

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  Před 3 lety

      It’s an off brand magnaflow dual inlet and outlet. Had a hard time finding any muffler shops that still stocked dual inlet mufflers. All the new trucks are single. This one was slightly used they took off someone’s truck that said it was too loud. Lol. I got a deal

      Not that hard on these trucks. One bolt and nut on bottom and the nut and bushing up top.

    Whats the diffrence between the 1500hd and the 2500hd. Can u make a video plz

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  Před 4 lety +2

      I’m honestly not completely sure. I’ve even seen 2500 non hd trucks before this body style. I know the hd title came along about the tome they rolled out the duramax engine. 2500hd has deeper chassis(can see more hanging out the bottom) that allowed the space for the duramax/Allison trans combo.

    • @AugustFourSeven
      @AugustFourSeven Před 3 lety +2

      From all of my research, the 1500 HD was a regular 2500 except almost all the drivetrain options were set and so was the body configuration: 6.0liter V8, four full size doors, 6 1/2 foot bed. The two options I'm aware of were axel ratio and 2wd/4wd. There's no Duramax option, no bigger or smaller V8, no extended cab (because that would be the regular 2500), no other bed length options.
      It's basically a 2500 that was configured really specifically. In the last couple years, it seems that the 1500 HD started having access to things like Quadrasteer, but I think that's because it became the GMC Sierra Denali variant for Chevrolet instead of just being a 2500 in disguise.

      @@AugustFourSeven Thank you for that description. I have a 2003 GMC 1500HD SLT 6.0, and I stumped my GM mechanic friend about it. He says he's never seen a 1500 with 8 bolt rims. When I bought it I thought I was getting a 2500 based on the rims alone! I was very surprised to see it listed at a 1500. Another car bud of mine says they came out with "Heavy Half" trucks, and this may be one of them. My neighbor has a 2500HD Duramax, and I did notice he has a bit more frame, but that maybe because of the extra room the diesel takes. Did you find anything else on your research?

    • @AugustFourSeven
      @AugustFourSeven Před rokem

      @@nbhenry1647 my reference for knowing these things is that I owned one for 5 years (just sold it).
      Other people will argue with you up and down about it only having 8lug rims and that it’s somehow still only a 1500. It’s not. The frame and all the drivetrain are the same as a 2500. That is to say, a 2500 and a 2500HD are NOT the same. The 2500HD does have a more reinforced frame over a 2500.
      Another way to look at this and it’s capability are looking at the payload and towing ability of this truck and a similarly equipped 2500 (6.0 Vortec).
      Every component of this truck is what a base 2500 is. What I didn’t mention before is also the transmission; it’s a 4l80e. That’s the 2500 base transmission. A regular 1500 didn’t have this frame configuration, it has the smaller 4l60e and access to only the 5.3Vortec.
      In my clarification, over the years, GM DID start to add the 6.0Vortec and 4l80e into the half ton truck for select models like a sierra Denali, or even the Silverado SS, but those were half ton frames. They did not have the payload or towing weight that your truck has.
      When I had this truck, I had to haul 4-5,000 lbs of water in a water tank in the back of this truck (living in rural Alaska) and with all that weight in the back of this truck, not only would it haul it like it wasn’t there WITHOUT changing the driving characteristics, it wouldn’t even squat an inch! I have seen many do the same with their GMT-800 1500 trucks up here with the same water tank and it would flatten out the leaf springs.
      Whenever you’re doing work on this truck, when ordering parts, most places will have options for parts for a 1500HD, but if they only recognize 1500 and 2500, in most cases it’s safer to order the 2500 part (but not 2500HD). I know this from experience and from having mechanics order the wrong parts for my truck thinking that they knew better than I did, only to have to send them back.
      The very last thing I’ll say is, when it comes to what is a half ton, heavy half, 1 ton, and so on: with each new generation of truck that comes out, the capability of each of these grows higher. What a half ton truck is able to tow and haul today, is far more than my 3/4 ton Silverado was able to. The distinction is somewhat arbitrary because the definition just moves higher and higher over time. Don’t worry about what someone else thinks it is, go by the parts and what the numbers say on the door jamb.
