I like how I spend my time watching other people do there projects while mine are sitting in the back yard unfinished
Haha thanks for watching! 😬
Makes you feel like you’re working too. Lol
It seems to me I have either time or money but never both… if I am working a lot my pocket is full, but when I have spare time I’m poor lol
I hear you there, definitely guilty
I felt this onna spiritual level
You'll love having that needle scaler!
I think so! And thanks for stopping by! 🤠
@@WaldosWorld sell that tailgate and get a transfer case brace! make sure the t case pump hasn’t already worn a hole in the case… they make an upgraded pump for pretty cheap. lot less then a new case.
I just watched your video with the oil leaking 3rd gen ram and y’all said it so similarly I was sure Waldo saw your video 😂😂
Always a good sign for a newly discovered channel when WWW comments here.
Finally. A CZcamsr smart enough to know oil undercoating is the only method worth a damn.
That's right! 🤠
You never disappointed waldo, you seriously have a gift when it comes to this kind of stuff. Keep up the good work man.
Thank you so much!
You’ve done it again, a masterpiece of a video! Can’t wait to see 2nd part of the trailer build
Thanks again! 🤠

This is cool man. I work for Magna and I and weld build all of GMs light and heavy duty frames models. This is sweet to see how the models have drastically changed over the years but more over the failing points for rust build up. Super cool man thanks for sharing
Hand fabricating instead of buying a frame kit.....that's a lost art. Thumbs up for sure.
This is seriously inspirational as a GMT800 owner. I've got a rusty old '05 Escalade EXT as my beater truck and it has done everything I needed it to and more even while being in very rough shape from the previous owner. 6 years of tough conditions (4 of them in Buffalo, NY winters) and I would love to give it this treatment someday - she's earned it
The attention to detail you have is a quality point in your videos that others leave out. I found you while looking for a flatbed design and then went nuts with all of your content because it parallels my career field.
You are not only entertaining but you’ve crossed into a level of instruction that I wish some others would.
Waldo is bringing back shop class one video at a time!
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! 🤠
I can't tell you how happy I was when you said some stick welding was in order!
Haha a lot of people mentioned stick welding in the comments of the trailer build video, so I figured it was time 😂
Did you choose stick for temperature? To not overheat? Why not mig?
@@Grasshoppa97 Just fun and easy when you're welding thick steel. Plus potentially better penetration depending on the rod
@@alexc.8424 thanks!
I'm very excited to see where this build is heading!
Same! 🤠
I marvel at the ability of folks who can do this type of project on their own. great job.
Shows what a man with time and patience, can do with a welder and a plan. Great job, again.

Patience. Sorry
I fixed the mess up
Very true! Thank you!
20:05 that’s where the needle scaler comes in handy. It takes all the slag off quick and easy.
Watch Wes Work seems to be an avid needle scaler user. Seems tied to geographic location for some reason. 😂
Good call! 👍
I bought a 06 and this video definitely made me feel a bit more confident about jumping into this project
You have the best automotive videos on the internet - not to mention wonderful truck, fabricating & communication skills. I rarely comment, however this has given me new motivation to continue restoring my ‘96 stick shift 12 valve. Good job, Waldo.
Thank you so much! I'm glad to be a source of motivation!
As alway Waldo awesome job you are amazing fabricator! Loved watching and listening to you!! Can't wait till the flatbed build!
Thank you so much! 🤠
Your videos just keep getting better and better!!! GREAT JOB on that frame!!
Thank you very much!
The finesse of pulling the bed off the frame with the tractor bucket was awe inspiring. Wish I thought of that when doing the fuel pump on my Sierra.
The fact that I open this video and he has a motor on a stand ....out in the yard.... no tools or stuff around....uncovered.... my kind of guy already....100% thumbs up!!!
Haha that's my brother's engine 😂
I keep one of those magnetic key boxes on my truck and beater car. They’ve saved the day more than once. Looking forward to your next installment in the D-Max saga.
Thank you!
Yep I'll go with the truck interest sure thing , that's a great job there ! Good to see Dinos Detroit 353 s still working away , great filming thanks Waldo !!
Thanks again, Steve! 🤠
Wow, I learned a lot on simple wielding and fixing rust parts. Looking forward to watch more of your videos, you explained each part that you do very well. thnx
Awesome job Waldo. Looks almost good as new, hope we get to see the flat bed build for this truck as well!
I'll definitely be filming the flatbed build 👍
I probably said it before but who cares LOL, those GMT800 crew cabs short beds in 2500HD version are one of the most "handsome" designs GM ever did. Especially 01-02 Chevys 2500HD and 03-07 GMCs.
Can't wait for the next episode.
Yeah, I do like the pre-facelift Chevys 👍
By far my favorite smaller channel I watch. Amazing camera work, and amazing work.
Thank you so much! 🤠
Recently stumbled across your channel and really enjoying your builds. I like the attention to detail. Just wanted to share a tip that’s worked well for me, with the amount of effort you’re putting into rust resto. I live in a state with lots of snow and heavily salted roads as well, I hate rust so I also use fluid film and started with that same rustoleum paint but still had to re-do a lot of the paint annually- I swapped to Por-15 paint with a annual coat of fluid film and haven’t had to re-do the paint in years now.
So satisfying watching the rust come off. Great series!
Heck yeah man love these types of truck builds - would love to get my hands on a diesel of any make really not bias towards brands and do something similar.
Get a Duramax or a Cummins. A 7.3 Powerstroke would be good too 👍
Great restoration... I will give you a tip for future metal work with piping though. Before you weld the brace or piping and seal it, its best to pour a acid wash through the inner piping to cleanse it and prevent the rust from getting worse in a year or two. Clean work though!
When I first saw the frame rails I thought " he should use a needle scaler, then you hit it with the air chisel wow! great video thanks for shareing
Waldo you have inspired me to restore my dads old truck he passed away when I was young and I just got the truck from my grandfather a few days ago but it needs work… it needs control arms and a rear cross member along with new rear shocks
Waldo I think you’ve missed your calling, again you have produced an interesting and informative video that was just right in terms of length, well done 👍🏻
Thank you! 👍
Beautiful work as always. Im surprised how well the frame rails held up, there is barely any pitting anywhere.
Me too
I was thinking the same thing*
I literally did the same thing you did to my 2006 Duramax 8 months ago. I wish I had thought about the bottle jack when you put the spare tire receiver on. It was a fun project. Great work man!
Thank you! 👍
You did a great job replicating the cross member. Good stuff! Talented guy.
I did this entire process to my 03 silverado just a few weeks ago. Replaced all the crossmembers in the rear and derusted the entire truck basically and painted it all up with por15. Just got done with bodywork a including fixing the rocker panel holes, then bedlined the whole truck black. Came out good, won't have to worry about rust for a long time. Also fluid filming it before salt season. Wish I had a lot of the tools you do here for this job haha
Very nice!
How well did the por15 work? I gotta replace all the rear crossmembers and I want to get rid of as much rust as possible 😂
@@mm-nl3qz it's worked pretty good but I would suggest 2 coats instead of the 1 coating did. Or 1 coat and something else, like bedliner. ALSO definitely pay the like 8-10$ for some crossmember frame caps. Coat the whole inside of them with oil. I used fluid film, get some sealant and apply to caps, push the caps in the holes. Crossmembers are sealed and protected, will never fucking rust on the inside atleast. I also got wheel well liners from rough country that work so good to prevent waters and everything just shooting up at the frame. I just bedlined my entire truck too
@@mm-nl3qz for the por15 dont leave scaley rust or any chucks. Clean it good degrease it and paint
@@oof578 🤘🤣 i saw those come up (the rear wheel well liners) and got too stoked, definitely plan on getting the caps for the crossmembers... cuz my old ones... blew through em with my air needler🤦♂️
You did a pretty good job of repairing the corrosion on that rear frame.
I'm just wondering why you didn't spray it down with Rustoliums rust encapsulater then primer before you painted it.
Yes it would cost more but would go a long way to keeping the original and replacement metal for becoming a repeat of what you started with.
Encapsulator and then tractor paint... Self levels, extra thick, and you just brush it on. Way better protection than spray paint and the results look much better too. And it's cheap!!!
I was hoping you were pulling the entire cab and doing a 100% refurbish. That year is one of my favorite in life. I’m 57. I’ve driven gas Chevy pickups 350,000 miles no major issues from that generation. My wife’s 2001 Tahoe took us 362,000 miles with a transmission swap and we sold to some friends who have driven it over 500,000 miles!!
Your truck.. well it should be on CZcams 50 years from now if taken care of.
I’m so excited for this trucks future after binge watching you build Billy Bob!
Thanks for watching!
Going by your last flat-bed build, I'm betting this one will be amazing. Aluminum is an interesting choice; less likely to corrode (but not entirely immune), lower weight, but not as stiff. Looking forward to your design choices.
Thank you! It sure will be nice to not have to worry about corrosion for this one 👍
@@WaldosWorld You'll still need some protection, just not as intense. Unless you use hard anodized aluminum parts, of course.
I randomly noticed the sub count go up ~200 yesterday while I watched a few Cummins swap episodes. I see this video within 20 minutes of you posting and notice the subs are up by 1k. Congrats buddy. Good content and quality video editing.
Thank you! The channel has gotten about 16k new subs since I uploaded the gooseneck trailer build video 👍
@@WaldosWorld LOL that was actually the first of your videos I watched!
@@WaldosWorld That was the first video YT recommended me. I am glad I found you!
Nice work Waldo. I’m following this restoration/build to the end. I have a 2006 Silverado 1500 that I use every day in my lawn care business and absolutely love it. I found a complete snow plow and mount for a 1999-2007 2500/3500 Classic. I’m trying to find a solid southern truck. My biggest problem 4x4’s down south are far and few between. Keep up the great work my friend.
My new favorite for rust prevention is Wool Wax, it’s much thicker than Fluid Film and it also comes in black. Wool Wax has my truck frame looking like new.
you make it look easy Waldo. Can't get over how good the back end looks now. Wowzers
Thank you!
Vehicle rust is basically a non-issue in my area but I would've primed the frame before painting and painted the new rear crossmember before installing and oiled the inside of the tube crossmember.
In my experience, it's basically no use painting a frame around here. The salt will always find a way to get to the metal. The only way to stop it is to coat it with oil every year 🤷♂️
Hey dude I enjoyed the video; however, since you took everything apart and mostly down to bare metal, you could have brushed on some rust encapsulator, or sprayed on some raptor liner after a coat or two of self etch primer, or rusty metal primer (the brown one). Then later on you can still spray the undercarriage with wax, etc to protect from New England winters, but I doubt any rust will make it through that top layer of raptor. Truck undercarriage would look mint too!
Fluid film is the best.
Bed liners are super durable, but water and salt usually end up getting underneath it, and once it does, it causes the metal to rust even faster because it holds the water/salt there. In my experience, oil undercoating once a year is really the best way to keep water and salt away from the metal 👍
Fluid film the inside of the cab corners, rockers and doors wherever possible. They have a 360deg hose made for it. They rust from inside out
Man your videos are GREAT!! Fantastic quality and info!! Looking forward to ALL your builds! Thanks!!!👍
Thank you so much! 👍
I personally think it would look really really nice with a normal rust free bed
As do I, but to each their own
Big tip you should paint with por-15 for your frame. It works wonders on rust prevention
I’m beyond impressed Waldo! Wow. This is excellent entertainment and education. You’re an inspiration! Thanks for everything you do.
Thank you so much!
Just came across your channel now a subscriber great job on that frame looks fantastic just in the midst of doing my jeep .Thanks for the inspiration Dale
I'd like to know the source for the replacement rear crossmember. I'm doing a similar repair to an 01 Silverado 2500hd
Here you go: www.autorust.com/product/chevrolet-and-gmc-2500hd-spare-tire-support-crossmember-art-211/
Watching you make the new cross member really got my interest, I’m a welder and now you got me thinking about a new side job
Just found your channel, Waldo. Fantastic content! I’m here in western mass and also have the same truck but mine is an SLE. Luckily the cab corners and rockers were done by the previous owner (professional level, not hacked!). I’m looking forward to tearing into the frame issues this spring. Cheers to great content!!
Thank you!
Great video and info. If you make the time and like fabrication and welding you can save anything. Very satisfying. Can't wait to see more of what you can do!!!
That’s awesome you tried the coal slag and liked it enough to include it in the video i hope this knowledge will help many ppl in the future seeing that in your video made my day thanks
Damn good job man ur videos are definitely stepping up and if a younger feller pays attention then he could watch ur videos and feel comfortable fixing his own stuff just doing it like a normal man would keep up the good work
liked your presentation of removing truck bed frame and repair. Nice going!
That's probably the best work I've seen on any of these CZcams videos. You have the best way of doing so people understand.
Thank you!
That frame looks a lot better than a couple we have done. I don’t drive mine in the winter to my crossmembers we’re still good, but the shock mounts were still gone., I couldn’t believe how thin my bed hitch was compared to the néw one
Finally, a CZcams channel I have found that isn’t filled with ads or trying to sell me something! You sir obviously enjoy working with your hands just as much as I do, best wishes and good luck.
Very enjoyable to watch. Your stuff has a nice flavor and feel.
You are a fearless fabricator. Have learned quite a lot from your videos!
Always excited when there is an new video from Waldo, and as always - really entertaining and educational! Keep up the great work and content :)
Thank you so much!
My new favorite CZcams channel, I binge watched the entire Cummins swap series yesterday!
Wow, thank you so much! 🤠
Great channel! Came up on my feed went through your content and I love it! Keep up the great work!
It is good to see somebody putting out a real feel video on how it is to work on old stuff I'm a relatively new subscriber and am on video 14 of the restoration of your 95 Chevy pickup
Thanks for the sub and thanks for the feedback! 👍
I'm going through this exact thing on a 2007 LBZ. Was fortunate enough to find a rust free box after searching for 6 months. Mine is a bit better shape overall but I've been slowly rebuilding it since Covid began. I had a spinning nut earlier this year in the floor from the center cab mount. The tack welds they put on those don't stand up. Good luck, these truck are worth preserving.
Great video. Nice to see someone actually get out and build things with there own hands. Although i definitely would have used Por15 on that frame after all that work of de-rusting it...
Recently started following you love your engineering skills you've got an amazing set of hands around steel keep up the good work and the great content
Thank you so much!
I'm just wrapping up my summer project of doing the same thing on a 2003 Silverado Quadrasteer, that has spent it's life in Michigan, so there was plenty of rust. I purchased a box from the South and am just about done with the conversion for the Quadrasteer, as it has fiberglass bedsides, instead of metal. Fun project but I'm ready to be done with it. Great video, it helped remind me where a few components need to go back on.
Very nice!
I’ve never been disappointed with your video work. You just keep getting better and better. Keep it up brother

Beautiful job Waldo, better than factory 110% 👌👏
Awesome Build!! Such a cool project! I would float the idea of putting the Dually axle on this guy if you are making it a flatbed, that would be super cool!
That's one thing I don't miss about living in Michigan is all the dang rust. I moved to northern Idaho several years ago and can find find rust free trucks all day long. The only down side is they have been driven up and down mountains and they are mechanically worn out but I would rather deal with that than the rust.
I have the same truck just with the 6.0! And did the same thing but sourced a rust free bed and replaced it! cheers from Michigan! I want that diesel so bad!
Cheers!
