A headphone jack, excellent cameras, and a small form factor -- this phone seems to have it all, but does Brandon think Sony has struck the perfect balance between Professional-grade and a phone you actually want to use?

It was hard to really determine how well the phone performed during the voice recording because there was still music playing while the voice over played back. When Brandon was talking about hearing the background noise on the recording I just had to take his word since I couldn't hear the pure audio by itself! I heard the wind over the music but not the plane, train, and lawn work. Next time I might suggest you stop playing the background music during a section where the point is to listen to just the recording.
Or just...not at all. I'm fine with that too
I agree
Probebly an oversight by the editer.
@@ayumiwaru probably. But LTT is always open to criticism if it's valid. It's a minor mistake but defeats the purpose of that segment and it's good for them to know for future edits.
No one's buying this phone anyway..
3.5 mm jack is super underrated, the experience you got with decent headphones it's incomparable to the wireless counterparts
And the experience of always carrying some decent wired earphones, which always work. As opposed to needing a fucking USB adapter or having to rely on Bluetooth, which sometimes unpairs, desyncs, or the earphones are out of battery. It should be a must, I’m pretty sad. 3.5mm jack is so reliable.
I cannot for the love of god let go of my Note 9, I got the top teir model second hand for less than half the price, and it has held so well. The Audio Jack is a life saver as my bluetooth got fried because I always used my samsung buds with it. But due to the presence of audio jack, it isnt a problem as I have KZ EDXs. They are amazing.
I miss wired headphones. There is no delay, no latency, no pairing. Literally plug and play.
no headphone jack doesn't mean you can't plug in a usb-c dongle or usb-c dac. As in, no headphone jack doesn't mean you have to wireless headphones...
@@notnavlookaway Same! I kept my Note 9 for the 3.5mm port, that and the lack of a notch/pinhole camera.
Props to Sony for making both, wireless earphones AND a headphone jack on their higher end phones.
The high end wireless headphones can also be used wired
@@acanalesc yep I use the wired connection to monitor audio from my mic recorders. An easter egg is that you can use the headphones with no power when wired old school style!
@@Energine1 You can actually use them powered to have ANC while also using the wired connection
@@acanalesc I just love that detail
@@Energine1 that is wonderful. The last time I tried that with some cheapo BT headphones, I fried them. So looked everywhere to know if this was possible. It does!
Can we have Brandon host a shootout of the 2022 flagship smartphone cameras once the Pixel 7 is out? I feel like he's one of the best "formal" hosts at LTT and he's really knowledgeable about cameras, I always learn stuff when he hosts.
all hail Brandon :D
As a Sony fans, it feels really great that big tech channel like you guys are still willing to do a review/ first impression for Xperia smartphones. Really appreciate that
The naming convention is why I insist on calling them Xperia 1 Mk.IV, or Xperia 5 Mk.IV. product naming schemes of such an iterative nature where the product name already has a number in it should be delineated with a designation of mark, or Mk., followed by the revision number, to show iterative versioning. I do really wish that Sony were big enough to be a legitimate influence on the rest of the smartphone market. I adore the fact that they listen to their customers. Their customers were like, "We really like phones with headphone jacks" so Sony put it back after they tried to ditch it with the Xperia 1 Mk.1. Their customers were like, "We really like stereo front facing speakers" so Sony put them back after they tried to ditch them several times. Their customers were like, "We really like expandable storage" so Sony maintained a MicroSD card slot in their phones. Their customers were like, "We like larger screens to scroll through our social media feeds but our hands are too small for them" so Sony made 21:9 aspect ratio displays. It really is an admirable quality in a company when they listen to their customers. If Apple had done so then we'd have Type-C and a less obtrusive front-facing camera solution by now and Samsung wouldn't have ditched the Note lineup or removed the headphone jack and expandable storage.
Well, Sony call it Xperia 1 Mk.4 and Xperia 5 Mk.4. I don't know why people don't have problem with camera named like this but when Sony naming any other product with Mk.2/3/4 people say their naming is bad, or maybe I am a nerd who like remember thing with their code.
I use Xperia since Z2 and I never satisfy with other brand even though they are better than Xperia in spec sheet.
@@mixswist Sony phones have a lot to like. Stereo front-firing speakers on many of their flagship models, headphone jacks on most models, microSD card slots on most models, and pretty minimalist UI on most Android versions. From my somewhat limited experience with their phones, they tend to just work. I also don't necessarily mind their naming scheme, I just wish that they more clearly delineated the version iteration in their branding and not just when talking about their phones. Samsung and Apple have done an alright job with their iterative naming since their product lines are generic or proper nouns followed by the iteration number, followed by the variant designation. So iPhone 14 Pro or Galaxy S22 Ultra. If Sony took that approach literally it would probably be Xperia 4 (Xperia 5 Mk. IV), Xperia 4 Ultra (Xperia 1 Mk. IV), and Xperia 4 Lite (Xperia 10 Mk. IV). Not saying it's necessarily better, as it is somewhat less memorable, but it is clearer. Even just writing it out as the Xperia 1 Mk. IV makes it clearer than Xperia 1 IV.
Thank you. It's MARK FOUR. It bugs me that Brandon being the camera guy at LMG doesn't know that their phone nomenclature is identical as their camera naming - which he doesn't have an issue with.
@@fungusamongus69420 I kinda want them to drag more Greek symbology into their smartphone lineup now. Next should be the Xperia λ. Just to confuse people.
@@mndlessdrwer do it like their cameras. The A7 III has subvariants like the A7S III and A7R III. Imagine the Xperia 10C Mark V...
I've been running the 5 (2) for a few years, I'm not a photographer or anything and it's still almost a perfect phone for me. My favorite part is the 21:9 screen gives tons of vertical space for scrolling but makes the phone narrow enough that you can one-hand it. Also having a flat top bezel is so nice, plenty of room for notification icons.
Yeah, the 5 II is awesome
Imo, also a 5 ii user but haven't tried 5 iv yet, 5 ii is peak Sony phone
I had the 5ii aswell, great phone. My dad uses it now since I've upgraded to the 1 iv. That telephoto lens made me switch. Plus I wanted a 4k screen because well why not (I know you're not gonna see al those pixels but it's just fun) I do have add that the 1 screen does look better than the 5,idk if it's a pixels but it's something I've noticed
@@championxxlNL maybe because it gets brighter?
I too have the 5ii. Upgraded from an XZ1 I'd been using for a couple years. Got it for about the equivalent of $700 USD brand new in the spring of 2021. I really like what Sony does. They offer features that pretty much every other manufacturer dropped, so they're filling an important gap for people who still want those features. I think more people could be happy with a Sony phone, but having very little marketing and not offering them in stores is always an issue for regular people who just get the suggested Samsung or Apple phones on contracts. I hope to hold onto this phone for another couple years, at least.
For sure best designs. Would be good to see longer software support.
Or any. Like reacting to people and bugs... I'm on Sony phones for 15 years now and lately the system, after any update, is more and more broken. So I've got on my Xperia 5 II half-year-pending update for A12.... When I switched (3 months after buying the new one) from A10 -> A11, it broke like 5 things which are still there to this day and Sony's ignoring that... That said, having different than Xperia phone would be a big no no. They are fantastic. Loving the speed, camera, sw, feel, quirks... Just the support. Meh
And not just software updates, but actually continued SUPPORT (fixes ect), the phone comes with a12 and only 2 years of updates YIKES
Could be said for pretty much all android phones sadly
@@Samsonfs i would much rather recieve timely and stable security updates/bug fixes, than even a single OS version update. I must be a minority in this, but i would be fine using A4.4 if it was secure and didn't break app compatibility.
@@danielrouw2593 Apparently Sony is also atrocious at bug fixes despite being barebones, I'd rather have longer support, the latest Android version (or an appropriate skin) AND 5 years of security updates
It's strange to say. I really like most of the hosts of LTT. But to me Brandon is probably the second best (after LS) because his delivery is not overdone. This first impressions video is soooo much better than the Flip 4 video. It might be best to just let Brandon host the first impressions videos for phones (and cameras, of course) moving forward.
"change the naming scheme, please, sony"
NO! Do you want to end up with the Sony Xperia P500-A5H?!
The naming scheme is easy enough to understand if you look over to cameras, its supposed to be Xperia 5 Mark 4... It gets weird with the offshoots like Pro-i and such but the 2 models Sony makes are the xperia 1 and xperia 5 with the digit/numeral following designating the generation of that device.
also xperia 10 mark IV being the midranger
man. I always enjoy Brandon. I'd love to see him do more mirrorless and DSLR reviews - especially for stills.
I'd love to see more Brandon in general.
For me the two things that are missing from the xperia phones are longer software support and improved computational photography. I returned my 5iii due to the image quality of indoor (non-ideal lighting) photographs, which is where I take about 90% of my photos. It just needs to be better, lagging behind a lot of other phone manufacturers that don't have an in-house camera division. I felt like I needed to process everything in lightroom before posting it, even my 4-year-old pixel 2 produced better images straight out of the phone.
Edit to add: if they revived the xperia compact with the feature set this phone has (just shorter) I'd probably overlook the photography issues entirely!
Compact compact compact! XZ2 compact here is getting a little sluggish for sure. I feel some loyalty towards Sony for their compacts, holding out for something otherwise it's gonna be an Asus I think.
@@jebimasta4604 Haven been a long term Sony fan, when my Xperia XZ1 broke down two weeks ago what made me not go for the Xperia 5 IV was the Asus ZenFone 9. Didn't want to deal with Sony's heating issues was primarily why I switched. Since getting my ZenFone 9, I have no regrets not continuing with Sony at this moment. If they continue to make compact phones with headphone jacks in the future, I will be back if Asus disappoints me.

Still using the 5 II and happy with it. Only gripe that I have is, that it occasionaly doesn't pick up my voice during calls for a few seconds (Regular and within Apps). So it would be nice if you can include some test calls as well.
Pretty happy with my Xperia 1 III. Definitely reignited my interest for photography to the point of thinkering, understanding the settings, experimenting a lot; something I hadn't done in at least 8 years with a cellphone. Audio is great, amazing display, and the battery could be better (I think it's the weakest point in my personal use case, but passable).
Their cameras are so fast, even my old Xperia could compete with my most recent phone in terms of speed, and it had an amazing feature when you hold the shutter and it takes pictures to keep the focus on no matter the movement the moment you release
Ok I got over not having a charger in the box (still irritates me. Just say you’re doing it to save money, these companies only give a shit about the environment because government regulations tell them that they have to) but not supplying a cable is outrageous.
@GH0STST4RSCR34M
Because anything can charge headphones decently while phones advertise with fast charging? IMHO you should have the option to add either a 10W or a max charge rate compatible charging brick+cable with a large discount at the checkout.
@GH0STST4RSCR34M On a phone??? YES absolutely holy crap!! How many people are constantly on 10-30% charge max because they suck at charging their phones regularly, being able to go up to more than half full in 20-30minutes as a big deal, especially for people who drain their battery before the day is out
@GH0STST4RSCR34M have u ever used a phone? lmao

I have the original Xperia 1. Purchased it at launch and it's going strong. I love it. Such a great device. I plan on getting another one in the future.
They did a really good job with the stabilization it seems. Horizontal pans look smooth without any of the mild jerking motion of past models. Sweet!
Sony's stabilisation was always great, I remember how they are able to recognize that you're panning so that it'll pan in coordination and doesn't slow you or "lag behind" like most stabilisation system I've seen on smartphones.
7:43 the 4K resolution gives you another much better advantage than just pixel density, on streaming Platforms like CZcams and Amazon Prime Video it gives you the 4K option which gives you much higher bitrates than 1080p and trust me you will notice a difference in bitrate.
Since a few updates ago you can set youtube to 4K even in non 4K phones though, so you'd still get the bitrate benefit
@@ArquerO53 really? That's awesome didn't know abou that, thanks!
I had the 5 II, and now have the 5 III, and I couldn't help myself, I pre-ordered the 5 IV. I still wish they had even smaller phones (really miss my XZ2 Compact), but out of the crop of current phones, nothing can out compete the Sony 5 series for me. The expandable memory is an absolute must for me, and the headphone jack is pretty close to a must as well. I can't wait to get the 5 IV. Thanks for whetting my appetite even more.
I had xz2 compact great size, battery finally died after 5 years, the 5iv still smaller than most bricks arround
I owned the predecessor of this phone, the Mk3. Had to send it back as the software had too many freezes to the point where it began to hang every second time I used it. Sadly the fingerprint sensor and the didplay weren't the best either.
Don't get me wrong here: the phone was great and the display looked amazing, I was just hoping it would be a bit brighter than my Zenfone 5Z with an LCD Display...
I had a feeling this had some to do with a camera when I thought Brandon was doing the video. Which is fine, because Brandon does great work on covering camera-related content on the channel. And it’s always interesting to see how much Sony pushes cameras with their phones, seeing as those are the main selling point for them at this point.
He'll probably mention how the camera controls are awesome for people coming from a Sony DSLR, but that their lackluster point & shoot functionality makes for a poor showing in a smartphone. Hopefully once someone finalizes a gcam port for the Xperia Mk.4 lineup then we'll get to see what those cameras are truly capable of with some post-processing wizardry thrown in.
@GH0STST4RSCR34M yes, but it's the closest to a competent point & shoot camera app that you'll get which does the post-processing effects that make people gush over the Pixel, iPhone, and Galaxy devices.
@@mndlessdrwer I've always thought the dedicated shutter button alone put the P&S value of an Xperia leagues above other phones. The number of quick shots I take went way down when I switched from an XZ2 to a S21 Ultra. I would take most casual pictures without ever touching the UI at all, and I'm really not a fan of most phone post processing.
@@octorokpie Fair enough. I just don't think that most people will share that opinion if they've ever used an iPhone, since it tends to take exceptional photos in most situations thanks to their post-processing effects and HDR multi-capture. I'd like to see Sony include such a feature and the ability to remap their shutter button to open that point & shoot camera app instead. I suspect they'd garner more mass-market appeal for their camera setup if they did so. I mean, Sony already has some of the best cameras and optics on the market in their smartphones but they aren't really leveraging them to the extreme in the way that consumers seem to desire and there's no particularly convenient way to add that functionality. They can keep their pro apps on there so people can shoot with extreme precision when they want to or have the time to do so, but I'd love to see them make an app that is dumbed down for the average consumer and requires no thought or effort to get iPhone level or better images. Will they look as natural as a photo that you've set up the ISO, shutter speed, white balance, color grading, and the like on? No. Will it be way more convenient and have a better aesthetic compared to using their basic mode with minimalistic post-processing? Yeah, probably.
@GH0STST4RSCR34M have you ever used an Xperia before? Because I'm typing on a 5 III right now and the point and shoot mode is hot garbage with early 2010s autofocus and a night and day difference when compared against the pro mode
You should have turned on Dolby Atmos for the speaker test. The sound quality of the speakers when Atmos is enabled is very noticeable. Quick way is the white box bellow the notifications. That's the quick access for Audio and Display. Also did you have Creator mode enabled for the screen. There is also Sony's spatial audio and AI audio enhancements that I am yet to try.
I just upgraded from Xperia 5 II to 5 IV and I am very happy with the upgrade. Definitely a gamer/creater phone. You can stream directly to CZcams using the game enhancer app. It comes with scenes and other streaming options which is a bit crazy to see.
Great review. Would like to say though that it would have been great if the video bgm was muted during the mic test.
The thing you need to know, is that when you are shooting in Manual, HDR and noise reduction DON'T work. If you want best performance, use auto, so you get cleaner images, so as better dynamic range. So as in the video, there is a high dynamic range mode, that allowes to keep details in the highlights.
Gotta say, I fall in the exact same nieche and needed a new phone this year, which is why I bought the Xperia 5 III. Great phone overall, what hurts it the most ist the software (though that got considerabely better over time) and the battery life. Thinking about switching to the 5 IV just because of the second point, as I am otherwise very happy and can only recommend this phone! They even have great battery health features such as only charge to xy%, which I use all the time!
Charge from what percentage to what usually?
You are truly the best phone reviewer on CZcams! I love your style, your sense of humour and filming method and how you explain everything and show all the pictures, videos, etc. Simply the best! So funny, especially that guy on the street who was lurking in the background from behind the tree on the right... nice sound you put with it. lol All the best to you and your family! And thank you. Now I'm going to watch your other phone review for Sony 1 IV... 🙂
Color graded and microphone is a nice combination. Watching 13:34 at 480p it still came out really nice. Stability is active. VO Processing users are mostly people on a budget or amateur posters. Simulating it in a car seen optimal compared to a studio.
I had the Z II and i HATED the fingerprintreader on the power button. It never worked and is way to tiny. I wish they finally switched to on screen reader. I wanted to like it but the Camera was also Terrible. tbh the pictures you looked at in LR dont look that good. Very noisy and mushy even in bright daylight
i have no prblems so far and like it in that way
This phone seems incredible. Love it's got tool-less storage expansion, and a headphone jack. The green color variant of this phone looks amazing too.
If Sony were to extend the length of software support and updates for their phones like Samsung and Google, would absolutely get this.
Thank you for this aspect ratio! When I started watching I was confused whether I had zoomed to fill and did it to check. And to my surprise this was almost 2:1! So satisfying on the phone!
Hello can you please inform me if 5 iv has the same problem as 1 iv....the problem is when you have a call and you have the phone near your ear the screen open ....it was a big problem because when you talk menu opens etc
No charger and no cable... what a shit world we've created...
I've just liked Xperias since the first Xperia Z and if it supported graphene OS I'd get it in a heartbeat. Now Im struggling between the great hardware Sony provides against the software freedom I can get with graphene OS on pixels.
Xperia always had some great dev tools and an unlockable bootloader, so why not...
I bought it few weeks ago, AMA! FYI I'm on T-Mobile in the US and bought the XQ-CT72 Asian version and it just works when putting in the T-Mobile SIM. Do your research first, but tldr for the XQ-CT72 version is it only has one out of five 5G network bands on the phone for T-Mobile, however it's most common 5G wavelength so it doesn't realistically matter that much.
For the phone itself, it's great. Looks amazing, really cool & comfortable design to hold. I put a Devilcase on mine & though it's an awesome case, I really wish I could use it without the case but with the same piece of mind lol.
Brandon how did you shoot the video? I use the video pro app shooting SDR and Dynamic range on wide, would I still need to color grade it? Or is it okay if I leave it as is
I'm pretty sure the retail box will come with a cable; Sony did the same thing with the 1 mark iv, sending the review box without a cable but the retail box does have one. (Still no charger, though.)
hope so because I do not trust charger phone with different company made specific phone charger despite the same usb head.
Micro SD expansion and the fingerprint power button is huge!! Nother ever comes close to a side fingerprint
I have the Xperia 1 III. It has everything I wanted and more. Only phone that doesn't have a stupid notch or a hole punch. My only gripe is the power button fingerprint scanner doesn't have a 1 second block so it sometimes unlocks when you lock it.
Side-mounted fingerprint sensor and dedicated camera button is what I wish every (camera-centric) ultra smartphone had nowadays.
Someone needs to come up with a gimbal with an integrated peltier cooler for this, would eliminate the overheating problem.
Love Brandon phone reviews!
8 Gen 1 is manufactured by Samsung and they're hot and inefficent. Next phones would be use 8+ Gen 1 or 8 Gen 2 which is manufactured by TSMC and way more efficent and cooler than Samsung manufactured ones.
It's nice you get a notification of overheating rather than my S22 Ultra(Exynos) which hardcore throttles performance if I have the camera on 10x open for a sports game.
Great video! I've really enjoyed watching your Xperia videos.
And the best part is it's not overheating. Sony for whatever reason likes to put overheating messages on all their devices when you open the app for the first time. Granted there's a "don't show again" button but I think they should remove the message entirely and only show it when it actually overheats to avoid confusions.
Maybe next time you show the quality of the audio processing cleaning up background noise, might wanna cut the background music. It just sounds like more background noise in the test.
as slow as sd card/expansion storage (on phones) compared to on-board storage, nobody ever complained about digital cameras (dslr, mirrorless, etc) having only expansion storage and no on-board storage whatsoever.
Should have a desktop mode like Samsung DeX so you can have a seamless content creation/production workflow. Shoot on the phone, plug into a Type C monitor/dock, edit and produce in desktop mode, then share, all from one device.
I do this with my Note 10+ already and it's seriously underrated.
Already does as part of Android implementation
@@DarkGhost088 the AOSP desktop is absolutely not comparable to DeX. It's merely a developer framework rather than something intended for a general user. It's also not integrated in any way; you need to dig into developer options to access it.
is it just me, or do none of these reviews cover the main part of a phone.. making and receiving calls! Whats the audio quality like in call? Loudspeaker and noise canceling features? Do you have to hold it a special way like the old iphones? 4g and 5g quality?

FWIW, I love my Xperia 5.2. It's not be newest, biggest, fastest out there but it's comfortable and still plenty (or rather completely) usable. Plus the battery life is great. And the Xperia 5.4 fixes the only real problem with the 5.2 - that phone's back is so slippery it could slide off a perfectly level table.

The 21:9 aspect ratio looked weird in the beginning, but I got used to it pretty quick.
The selfie camera is terrible, but isn't much of a problem for me personally.
The battery is a bit weak for my liking. A full charge is enough for a day, but if leave the house with 50-60% I feel the need to put it in energy save mode

I absolutely love the side fingerprint reader compared to them under screen optical fingerprint reader of my Huawei P30. It's quick and seems to be more forgiving of workers hands than previously mentioned.
The camera is great, although the pictures are a little bleak compared to the competitors and the software enhancements to compensate for blur could use some work.

To me Xperia line is like good old, early OnePlus (maybe without the "flagship killer price" thingy) - made for poeple, who know why they are buying it and absolutely no-one else ;)
The naming scheme could not be easier to understand. Xperia 1 series is the flagship, 5 is the compact version of the flagship, and 10 is the budget series. I think tech reviewers just like to make fun of Sony.
The pro i was a successor of the Xperia pro; it's a different series. unlike other phone manufacturers where pro is just an excuse to get people to pay more money, pro series is for actual professionals in different fields.
Thanks a lot for reviewing the phone! Love to see it
1,5 and 10 are fucking awful names for phones 💀 then add the extra number to indicate the generation (silently pronounced mark) it's a pain to explain to the general public outside of a niche tech sphere who have knowledge of the camera naming scheme as well
@GH0STST4RSCR34M but also, they aren't called the Experia 5 MARK 4 anywhere that's one reason it's confusing, it's just the 5 IV the mark is invisible, I can't suggest a better numerical name scheme because they already have this bad one
I like there being some noise in a camera. It gives a classic film feel.
little hard to hear the diff in processed vs not processed background noise w/ the music playing
Oh, I care about the headphone jack. It is one of the many reasons I have a Zenfone 9. It is still how I play audio in my car
Everytime Brandon reviews a Sony phone I want to have it. Such good reviews. I used to have an Xperia Z3 and it was the best and most beautiful phone I had to this day. Too bad the IP didn't work as well as it should and it died in water =(
Anyways, now I want a 5 IV, thanks very much
Go for the Sony
13:30 It looks like a static camera which pans to follow him. Quite impressive
9:15 even out of focus, Taran's naughty smile is recognizable.
It'd be great if it had 4 years of software security updates
Yeah even Samsung does 5 years now.
exactly
there can't be any excuse now
I wish Sony used open source andriod projects or at least made their os open source.
It does
Yes, it checks all the boxes. Unfortunately, a phone from 5 years ago also did that for half the price. I guess we have Apple to thank for the trend of more and more expensive phones with less and less features :(
My Samsung Galaxy S10e from 2019 has a headphone jack, wireless charging, card slot, 4K 60fps video, and 8Gb of ram. It's hard to believe how much we've lost.
@@Venaloid I've got the same phone but it's starting to show it's age and I'm looking for replacement. I've been eyeing the Asus ZenFone 9 because it checks most of the boxes, compact size, good performance, decent battery life, passable camera, no under display fingerprint reader, clean UI (I don't really like One UI, I prefer stock android), and attractive pricing. The only downsides are the lack of wireless charging, no headphone jack, no SD card slot, and limited android updates. Unless something else comes around that knocks it out of contention, I'll probably be getting it soon.
Have XZ1 Compact from that era. Loved the hardware, but honestly the software was really barebones (eg no dark mode or screen colour balance adjustment) and security updates stopped a long time ago. A real shame given it's the only phone with front-facing speakers and no hole in the screen (apart from massive gaming phones)....
it is about to get worse. some rumors that Apple will test new pricing in the iPhone 15. I wouldn't mind they doing that but Android flagships should not cost like an iPhone
@@zodiacfml At least that one might have USB-C
Hi, regarding the one side has no buttons? You could lay it flat on a surface to take a steadier picture. I like it! I don't get why people are weirded out by the name. There are 3 models:1, 5, 10, and the version is noted by the roman numerals. It is odd, but very clear. I believe they use the same for their alpha cameras.
I wish more phones had camera apps like that. I don't take pictures with my phone, just because I find the UI stupidly confusing and difficult to get used to. Which means, I won't get used to it at all, if I just take a picture or two every week.
Pretty much the tag line for all Sony phones tbh
what happened to the Oura ring?
True, the video is gone
That picture of the birds and power lines clearly showed rolling shutter artifacts.
why did you leave the music on during the mic test?
Unpopular opinion:
The naming scheme is the best there is for people that don't know nothing about phones.
Numbers can go up to positive infinity, but don't make sense for a product if they go into the negative space. So a "the smaller the number, the better"-naming scheme makes a lot more sense than the approach many other companies have to this.
You can be sure that the Xperia 1 will always be the best lineup from Sony, while you can't tell if the A72 from Samsung is now better than a S22.
@GH0STST4RSCR34M Yeah, those are the worst.
But it is like this for almost every big manufacturer. Only the ones that just started in this business seem to have some sort of scheme (HUAWEI for example).
Y’all complaining about Sony’s camera/phone naming system
Wait till you see the name of their headphones
@@ZaHandle nobody has complained about the camera or phone naming scheme.
We support the phone naming scheme and hate the TV naming scheme.
I swear Sony always launches phones in the most inopportune times for me. I always end up needing a new phone just a few months before Sony launches one, making it inconvenient lol.
Trade it in for Sony
@@SonyEnthusiast I can't trade it in until it's paid off lol.
@@NigelMelanisticSmith what phone do you have?
@@SonyEnthusiast I used to have an LG G8X, and I knew I had to either give up my Headphone Jack with Samsung and Microsoft, or give up my Dual Screens with Sony. However, my phone broke suddenly in June, and I needed a phone I could buy on contract, since I didn't have enough saved for the Microsoft Duo 2 or Xperia 5 III, so I got a Galaxy Z Fold 3. The inner screen has already broken once for me, so I wish I could go to a less fragile phone, but I still have $800 to pay off to Verizon.
Thank you Brandon for the reviews and in depth look into the photo quality! Super stoked to get one of these phones soon, just a matter of putting the cash together.
I was wondering are all Sony cell phones narrow like the xperia 5 lll ? I like it narrow but I want it longer at least. Help
Greatest phone no one can find to purchase?
Brandon is one of the people that review things on this channel
That statement is true
I've got the Xperia 1 IV for a while now (I'm living in Germany and bought it at release) and so far it's the best phone i've had.
If this one is practically the lite/mini version of the 1 IV then I understand why you like it so much ^^
does anybody got any noise issues when you speak to someone on the phone? i get a slight buzzing noise everytime someone talks?
I don't really get why people make such a big deal out of how Sony has named their smartphones. To me it's one of the better ones out there.
I love my 1 III, but I've had some issues with it and will have to send it to get repaired (fingerprint sensor stopped working and mobile data is having issues). And so I've ordered an iPhone to replace the Sony as my main device. I will still keep the Sony once I get it back from repairs due to the fact that to me it's the only phone with a camera system and (edit: camera) software that I actually want to use and it'll continue as my music device.
I also don't get the whole Android vs iOS. Reason why I went with an iPhone as my new main device is that for me, they've always been more reliable than any Android phones I've had. My current Sony isn't the first Android-phone I've had issues with (to the point of having to get it sent for repairs) and I still love using Android-phones. I've had a ton of issues with iPhones as well (especially WI-FI), but never issues that made me unable to use the phone and having to send one for repairs.
Do you use 'warranty' to repair 1 III, or just with third party services ?
@@hermansyahn.n9091 warranty 👍
@@Coda-Ch. ahh good for you mate, am still wondering when I have Xperia. Still using my 50 bucks phone:)
... You can't bring yourself to use a phone that's named the 5 IV?!?!
make a handheld console from a strong SBC. You can use a portable LCD/IPS/LED screen/monitor and razer kishi. Body of the handheld console made by a 3D printer or use a body of Anbernic552/PSVita/Powkiddy
Thank you for covering this device. Could you please test pwm on the display of mobile devices? Current OLED displays are increasingly using low frequency PWM making them unusable for those with sensitivities.
Sony could compete with USB for most confusing naming convention
How? It's a very consistent naming convention, unlike what USB is doing
Sony has probably some of the dumbest naming conventions ever right now. but to their credit, their phones are VERY nice. they feel extremely premium and I've gotten super used to my 1 mk iii
Lol it's better than the shitty iPhone 13 pro max or s22 ultra, Samsung a52, a32 or what ever shit that we don't even know which is midrange or value or flagship or pro
Can the photo pro app and other stuff be used on other phones?
it has a metal back and wireless charging? so it is possible?
