  • Uncovering the Truth About the Sony Xperia 5's Overheating Rumors:
    In this video I want to show what causes heat in the Sony Xperia 5 IV phone.
    I am conducting four tests with a thermal camera to show exactly what causes the heat in this Xperia phone. I also try to explain why this is happening.
    I hope you like this video and please like and subscribe for more ❤

    Testing was interesting, but not sure about the conclusion here. Most phones these days have glass on both sides and dissipate the heat just fine- The overheating on this phone seems to be poorly designed (or potentially lack of) heat spreading materials- such as copper evaporation pads- as far as I can tell. Other manufacturers are including large heat spreaders of various types to spread as much of the heat as possible to the frame, and Sony either hasn't done this or hasn't done a very good job of designing it.

      @aboaazam Před rokem +2

      I don't know why Sony makes the same mistake. Most of their mobiles don't dissipate heat even though they are flashchips

    Great video! I owned Xperia Z from 2014, and it has overheating issue that consumes much more battery life than my iPhone 4 even though the Xperia Z was on standby. However, after updating to Android 5.0 (Lollipop), the overheating issue was gone and the battery life was significantly improved. Turns out to be software issue

    Great point! All manufacturers are putting those glass plates on the back, even when aluminum or some metal alloy would be a perfect substitute, like Huawei P8 had :)

    I've had this phone for a few months now and it's constantly overheating. Part of my job is taking pictures of vacant homes and I'm constantly waiting for the phone to cool down so i can use the camera again. Flagship hardware sure, but unfortunately it's all throttled back due to overheating.

    Hi @Digital Jedi.
    I'm on the hunt for a new phone, i've had the Xperia 5 mk1 since 2019 and i really like it but it's getting a little on the slow side. I really want to go for a Xperia phone again since i love the format of the Sony phones, but i since i heard about the heating issues i've been considering other brands. Im not an videographer and i don't play alot of demanding games, would you still recommend the Xperia 5 IV?

    Hey there DJ, Thank you for your review of the green beauty. Your opinion just adds up to a unfortunate decisionmaking while putting together this phone. As I'm sure you're familiar right now, the issue is that Qualcomm used Samsung tech while making their Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. That chip is ridiculous. I'm still using Xperia XZ1 compact as there was literally nothing over the years which could be considered buying. It's SD 835 is still crazy good and swift. Just the memory is far behind time nowadays. I just can't help myself and even with knowing the issues I'm still considering to buy the 5 IV. Have you experienced temperatures over 45° a lot in general use while using the phone continuously for maybe an hour + while (videocall, gaming, editing, etc..) or it's not tha bad? Thank you.

      Short answer, no I have not been experiencing high temps under normal use.
      However....
      I am starting to some other weird bugs that are hard to resolve.
      1. Compass does not calibrate.
      2. While connected to bluetooth calls suddenly gets muted. Not disconnected but muted.
      So Im not really sure how long I will have this phone 🤨

      @@DigitalJediDkFirst of all the 8gen 1 was made by Samsung not by TSMZ which makes much better chipsets for Qualcom . I just swape my 5 V and got the Xperia 1V with 8 gen 2 made by TSMZ they produce far better quality chips then Samsung . Samsungs exynos is just an example knewn for its bad performance . But i agree Sony could have implementet a cooling system like a vapor chumber . The Xperia 1V has this so you may wait for 5V it is just around the corner .

    This chipset is the main reason for the heat. I had a 5ii and never had the heating issues like this. The heat tech they used is good but the chipset has a history of overheating in all manufacturers phones. Not one of them was prepared to have to adjust proven heatsink designs to compensate
    The heat happens most during camera operation and when gaming on it. Outside of that it doesn't heat up that bad. Though it does have a heavy handed process killing ability. It will kill background apps almost immediately at times. So switching from CZcams to text and coming back will sometimes reset the app you wanted to go back to.
    Really makes me wish I went from 5ii to 5iii instead. The amount of throttling is bad even a year of updates

    Not sure where you come from in the phone world... Bot almost any flagship phone uses glass on booth sides. Thats not the problem. I think it got more to do with software optimization, internal cooling and how much you push the components. I.e use of fast readout sensors. I have both the Xperia 5 iv and iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone does never overheat in normal climate. Im switching from Sony due to the massive thermal throttle that happens even just by using regular apps. I just cant stand it any longer. The same goes for Sonys terrible memory management.

    Many sketchy things about these sony devices anyway. Compass cannot be calibrated. Not with a "8" shape motion. If u calibrate it with AR on google maps, it works only while u on google maps. If you go out and back in, accuracy is again below 10% and view like 180° . I just got returned my xperia 5 IV from sony as the whole device been replaced for new one. Same issue on new one. Can somebody confim that he could calibrate the compass? It makes this phone absolutely useless for hiking.

    • @DigitalJediDk
      @DigitalJediDk  Před rokem +2

      You are completely correct. I was actually wondering why I couldn't calibrate the compass... Would be interesting to see if this is a general issue.

    • @9Anup
      @9Anup Před rokem +3

      @@DigitalJediDk it is a general issue. I've tried on 3 sony 5 iv . Sony admited that is faulty, so gave me brand new one-again with same issue. Sony juat doesn't care about individuals

    • @9Anup
      @9Anup Před rokem +1

      @@DigitalJediDk is there any way, to make a short video how u demonstrate the impossibility to calibrate the compass in google maps also in Stellarium? When you calibrate the compass via AR (camera) it will calibrate it, but soon as you go out from app, accuracy becomes low again (less then 10%) Sony gave a replacement, and they want me to all the tests and everything what i was doing before for 2 months. It's just a nonsense. They don't want to admit that all Xperia 5 IV have a same issue. Thanks a lot for considering:)

Thinking about getting the 5 IV but the price tag and overheating issues is a deal breaker. One should expect flawless functionality if they want to charge flawless functionality prices.

    I have an Xperia XA1 Plus, which is a few years old (Android 8, anyone?), and I have (had?) my eye on the "5 IV". I love the space for an SD card and the audio jack (yes!), but this overheating issue that I read about makes me doubt.
    However, I don't game on my smartphones (I have my R7 5700X/3070Ti at home for that), nor do I do any filming (or video chatting), so the "5 IV" would probably be fine.

    Yes they are getting toooooo big and it's hard not to buy a big one, cause the small ones would always have a drawback, the overprice and low performance of the iphone/iphone pro, the bad battery and low quality camera of the samsung s23, the lowperfirmance of the asus , and the lack of features on the sonys

    I have to say I'm very picky person who is looking for perfect phone for months and I too don't like to often change phones and I don't want to own a phone I will regret.
    Sony Xperia 5 III and 5 IV currently seems to be perfect phones for me but still overpriced and now I'm researching for possible issues. Hopefully there will make more deals/discounts.
    I think 400€ should be top price for 8GB RAM phones and that's WITH solved heating problems. 550€ for 12GB RAM phones and without any issues realistically talking, not for 1000€...
    Sony PS5 gaming console now sells for 399-499€, with specs of 16GB RAM, CPU 8 Cores 3.5 GHz, 825GB SSD.... with weird design in my opinion.
    Overheating problems in smartphones could be solved simply by inventing waterproof holes or lines on sides like they have for loudspeaker, microphone... But I guess smartphone designers don't worry much about that nor customers complaints or how to become top competition on the market.
    Useful video with thermal camera test. 👍
    And yes I too feel they are making too big smartphones for giants hands and bigger chances to fall out of hands... But I guess that's the price of larger batteries.
    And I think 6-6.8inch phones with 8-9mm thickness should at least come with larger battery capacity or better CPU cooling system.
    Apart from putting useless extra cameras I don't get where that useful space is wasted on...
