This is one of those videos that reminds me that makeup is my sports. 😆 The commentary, the weekly updates, the yearly recaps, the excited fandom when you find a kindred spirit, rooting for different brands ("teams") and creators ("players"), deciding on the best "strategies" (formulas) ... Yup, better than football any day for me. 😉🏈💄
I am personally over the clean beauty trend. I like how it looks but I don’t like how quickly some things expire. Stabilizers in makeup should be a thing. I’m not sure how some of these brands get away with it. (I’m looking at you Kosas)

Agree! It’s the light caramel skin tone, hair and green eyes…she looks stunning. If I did this eye look w my dark hair, brown eyes and fair/cool skin tone… I would look ILL. I’m envious!❤

@Jennifer-uc2oh I've been trying to do this kind of thing on my fair/cool undertone but with cool purple & pink colours & trying to blend it down from my eyeshadow to my cheeks. It's a work in progress trying to get it right but it's fun to play with!
Your eye makeup is giving me modern day Jem from Jem and the Holograms and now it’s got me wondering how you would translate all those over the top 80’s looks to modern day.
I'm just a girl, sitting in her full glam, waiting for the 2016 makeup aesthetic to come back. 😂 I've been loving indie makeup even more this year and I'm trying to slowly corrupt my coworkers into doing colorful eyeshadow.

Same!!!! I want funny lip colors to be back, more glittery and metallic lipsticks, I'm sick of 'my lips but better' looks. For me a neutral lip is Tomboy from Melt which is basically an undead greige XD
Each year I feel more drawn to Indie makeup than mainstream.
Exactly! Although I did buy my first Too Faced, Huda, and Natasha Denona palettes this year and they were all lovely!
@@YogaCheryl I think I'm in the space where I like both, but it just depends on what it is. Angie and Tina from The Fancy Face have definitely put me on to indie brands when I started my makeup journey. For palettes, I love indie. For some of the more base products like foundation and concealer and such, I prefer the mainstream.
My purchases this year have all been indie.

I feel like Angie boosted Cosmic Beauty forward, that's how I found out about them and made a purchase. And I think glittery and shimmery lip products are gonna pick up next year

I picked up the Winter Wonderland palette because of Angelica and I am obsessed. I went so over-the-top with today's look because I was having so much fun playing. I'm a sparkly ice fairy princess now, that's my new journey. It's one of my top two favorite palettes of the year.
I purchased serenity and delicious delights on black Friday. They are stunning and the colors are so fun 🎉
After the success of Yucca and the not so good feedback from Xenon I feel like she's gonna knock spring out of the park...I checked the trademarks and she's gonna have a Bloom Face Palette/Bloom Palette coming soon. The bloom products that already exist are my absolute favorite from the brand and actually what got me started on CZcams myself so I'm super super hopeful she does it justice.

I really was surprised by ELF this year. They make really good price/quality wise products, skin care and since I lost my job I had to cut down hugely on my spending budget. ELF made sure I had a great primer, skin care and even makeup and for a great price. I am very happy. And yes, I know a lot of products are dupes but they do it so well ❤
definitely think it was an indie brand year for eyeshadow! we've always known that they are hidden gems but as you said, some really did blow it out of the park.
I bet Pat Mcgrath is producing all these pink palettes because she saw the numbers and she knows that they sell far better than anything else. Influencers get annoyed but her target customer (someone who can effort her prices) is happy to pay over and over again for and nude pinky palette. It's a shame because her first palettes were so cool and interesting

I do not understand PH adjusting anything - all us humans have the same PH. Some of us have paler skin and some deeper, so it does look different based on that. It's not supernatural!

I loved your Oden’s Eye collab! It’s the only makeup item I’ve purchased since April. I can’t resist an Oden’s Eye palette and a collaboration with you makes it that much more special.

I had no trouble resisting the ND Xenon. A 5 pan was sufficient,and I didn’t even buy that!😂😂

I definitely agree that we’re headed towards more makeup rather than less. It felt like that trend rose up during the mask wearing time, but we’re masking a lot less now. I think we’re seeing more makeup trickle in too with the latte and strawberry girl makeup, it’s still very subtle but it’s visible makeup as opposed to the original clean girl look
If anyone is wanting great single eyeshadows in the similar colors as Merit singles, check out the makeup artist brand Mehron Makeup (found at camera ready cosmetics) has some of the best matte powder formula in those crease and blend out shades for fair to medium skin tones. They’re pigmented and blend so seamlessly that I find myself using the single in Espresso or Toffee for the crease color, regardless of what palette I use.
Plus the Merit singles are just too much when it comes to singles. We don’t want to have to unscrew each one and then screw back on tightly when done. That’s annoying
The effort to open and to secure these might convince you of their value but they are so inconvenient for a one and done.
This year to me was the year of neutrals coming back. After a few years with lots of rainbow/monochromatic this year we really went back to neutrals. Also multi/duochromes or toppers became more mainstream and I'm here for it!
The eye of the storm is the calmest place to be. The eye of a hurricane is very quiet. I was in a few in Japan

As much as I don't love how elf's pricing is climbing up just a little bit... I've always loved them and have no plans to lose my Icon status on their website lol
I agree that Cosmic Brushes/Beauty is terrific . . . quality and color stories! Their Winter Wonderland palette is gorgeous, and I personally appreciate that the brand owner decided to make it winter themed rather than specifically Christmas-themed. I have the Natasha Denona Midi Xenon palette and think it's gorgeous, but I also don't have the mini Xenon. In fact, I was planning on getting the mini Xenon, butr when the midi version was leaked, I decided to wait and choose between the two. Additionally, while I have gray and black eyeshadows in various palettes, I don't have a single gray-scale-focused palette in my collection. So, for my cool-toned skin, the midi Xenon works and serves a purpose in my collection, but I totally see how others might view the midi Xenon as obsolete, boring, or redundant. I never purchased the ND Yucca palette, but I do think I will be picking that up in the coming months since I love mustards, olives, oranges, and greens, and the palette continually gets rave reviews.

And, yes there haven't been many Christmas releases this year. On one hand I'm sad because I love the holidays and the palettes are usually quite beautiful but on the other hand I feel a slight "makeup fatigue" after all of the releases the past months, so a break is nice.
Ooo love your look today!! I don’t think colourpop has been a flop this year…but it has for me. They’ve always been one of my favorite brands and I just haven’t had any interest in the majority of their releases this year. Which makes me sad! I hope 2024 they can spark my interest again!
@erinld2005 I agree with you! I wouldn’t say Colourpop is in their flop era but nothing really interested me enough to purchase except for products that I repurchased. I know this year has flown by way too quickly ☺️

I just love odens eye, I have so many eyeshadow palettes, so I have to pick and choose wisely what I buy, I own almost everything at odens eye that they have since last year at their Black Friday sale(2022), missed out on the collab with wolf(forgot what those were called) will not miss out ever again! So odens eye is always my first choice.

I wanted to give a shout out to City Beauty, the AD famous, lip plumper. It really is a nice product and doesn’t have any spicy or burning to it. It’s honestly the nicest lip mask I own. And that says a lot. 😅
Definitely give it a try if you’ve seen it and was wondering. I had seen the AD for it everywhere, but when Michele Wang recommended it briefly in a morning get ready as an overnight mask I was sold.

IF, Cosmic (Brushes) Beauty, (I hate when brands change their names!) and Oden's Eye keep their prices reasonable I will continue to purchase from them. Very happy with ALL (and there's a lot) purchases from them. Bellabeautebar STILL hasn't even shipped my Basic Witch and Deinfluenced Palettes, ordered in early October, however has launched other products??.... I absolutely will NOT purchase from them again!
ND, YUCCA PALETTE is STUNNING! I already had the mini Xenon palette and waited to see the reviews for the full palette, so happy, because the reviews were not good, (same as what you have said) and I am happy with the mini! 👍
