- A review of the Peugeot 207 1.6 THP Sport XS (also sold as GT in higher trim), a car that was released a year before the 207 GTI. A rare beast, but is it any good?
Model on test is a 2008 1.6 THP Turbo Petrol engine with 150 bhp, Sport XS trim. Based on the 2006-2014 Peugeot 207.
Apologies that I assumed this was a GT model, but it is a Sport XS - very very similar to the GT, but with slightly less equipment. Same interesting engine though!
Covers cars sold in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

I have the 1.6 Vti and I absolutely love that car, very good in the corners and when the Vti kicks on ur has a very nice sound to it.
This guy has such a soothing voice and a calming tone. These videos are really cozy-feeling. Earned my sub!
Thanks Omar!
Totally agree. Watching all his vids now
Loved my XS sport! The sneezing mouse was the best! ❤️
Great stuff I'm a big fan of this car actually 😁
😁
Really nice review buddy... No stupid unfunny remarks that others seem to feel the need to say. Just a good review 👍
😂 thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
The way to fix the window is by holding the "window up" switch for 10''..
If you're ever in the midlands give me a shout, standard octane pack GTi with cold air intake, stainless exhaust and blow off adapter makes a nice woosh and sounds like a turkey in the engine lol, fun to drive when its not being a pain.
GT is actually a different spec to the Sport XS. Sport XS is basically just a Sport with the bodykit and full leather seats. The GT adds dual zone climate control, cruise control with limiter and a full glass panoramic roof with half leather seats and without the bodykit.
Forgot to mention, GT also adds auto lights and wipers and a heat reflective athermic windscreen and power fold mirrors.
I was fully expecting to come in here and argue with you that it's a GT... but you're absolutely right 😂. I hadn't realised that GT was specifically a trim level, I thought all the 1.6 THPs were GTs and you could get Sport XS with that!
The Gti is a great car, but maintenance is vital, change oil regularly, using correct oil, every 5k, if buying one, insist listening to the engine cold, any cold start rattle from timing chain, avoid, unless it's cheap enough to factor in replacement, as well known to destroy engines, depopulation system light on can mean numerous faults, definitely not the most reliable car on the road, but when running right, a super car, nippy, reasonable on fuel, oh run on super unleaded from BP or Shell, the extra cost is offset by instant throttle response, smoother running and in my experience better economy
the gt diesel isnt as bad as people think, been able to get one to do 0-60 in 9 seconds and it'll get to 130 surprisingly easy (bare in mind its screaming at you). managed this in a 2006 one with 130k miles too
Interesting, looks good fun. I kind of want one.
You should get one. And it can still count as an "ultimate driving machine" thanks to the BMW turbo
had one for 4 months blew 2 engines the chain tensioner issues are a real issue and ruin this car
Lovely car. I've had multiple Peugeots and so has my family, including a diesel RCZ and not one of them has had any issues ever. I would say they are robust mostly, and if u keep on top of the maintenance as with any car and treat it well, then you'll rarely have issues. Only think I didn't like is the extra large steering wheels a lot of these older Peugeots used to have and can't understand why they were the size of a lorry lol
That's good to hear they've been reliable for you :) Funny that, as in the new Peugeots, they've gone the opposite way and have tiny steering wheels! Is that an i30N in your profile pic?
@@JJonCars good spot and it sure is! I had one for 2yrs and that is an absolutely amazing car. Would be good for you to review sometime.
@@MrSunnyBhoy Would love to review one!
Good review .No nonsense.
Thanks!
I own a GTI 175 and have done for the last 3 years. One thing i found interesting about this car you drove is the noise from the suspension. My car is quite modified being lowered mine is no where near the level of noise that's coming from that car. Love my car its great fun to drive.
Maybe the suspension needs fixing on my test car haha! I bet the GTI is brilliant especially with a few mods like that.
@@JJonCars Yeah that's a possibility. The car is a lot of fun! Hybrid turbo, larger intercooler, full stainless exhaust - de cat. In the process of forging the engine internals.
@@HeloWarLord I’ve got one now too 2010 facelift model. I think I’m gonna keep hold of it as there’s really not many around. Just about to pull the engine out of it this week and do a full refresh, new timing chain, clutch seals etc, would like to go for more power at some point but just want to get it running well and reliable for now.
@@JJonCars I think the shock Absorber has gone on it, as I had this problem on my 207.
overall satisfied? is the engine bad as some ppl say? what are your problems with engine?
One thing reviews constantly overlook is how relatively upmarket they look and feel compared to say Fords. A 207 is a more mature and expensive feeling car than a Fiesta of that era - the Fords feel aimed at little boy racers, whereas the 207 is more comfortable and grown up without being boring.
You know, you're right. I think I did mention the interior being quite nice, but yes, they are a bit more grown up than some cars of an equivalent price 👍
I've just bought a 207 GTi 2010 from auction sight unseen as I thought it would be a fun little toy to play around with, hopefully its not knackered, wish me luck lol!
Haha, nice! Risky business but could turn out alright! Best of luck. Let me know how it goes :D
@@JJonCars haha yeah, after reading about the timing chain issues I think I’ll be lucky if it doesn’t need work but 🤞😂 still waiting on delivery.
so how has it been? haha
@@Nikolanov It was actually a fun little car, had a few issues with it but they were common things like the leaking oil feed pipe on the turbo, front wishbones and a radiator leak, think it was mostly just a lack of maintenance. Ended up selling it as I just got bored and wanted something with a bit more power as it wasn’t much quicker than my daily GTD golf lol. Considering a 350z next maybe.
@@bendude6748 and how expensive were these fixes xd?
“Lardiness” absolute savagery 😂
😂
Have you driven a 1st Gen kia koup?
I haven't - they didn't sell those in the UK so I've never even seen one! :)
👍👍👍
The dip beam lights are poor, theyre like candles, ,Notchy gearbox, annoying beeps, like seat belt, lights on etc. ITS not a bad car for the price,
I have this atm in 2023...
Why don't you come to Greece to test my GTI with 401bhp!🙂
I'll be on the next plane over! 😂
@@JJonCars I'm looking forward to 😄
Surely this means a 107 review is coming soon?!
Ah the 207 -100. Need to get my hands on one!
@@JJonCars Wonder who has one you could borrow 🤔
A engine from Peugeot and BMW. It’ll be very reliable won’t it? 😂😂😂😂
Haha, a match made in heaven!
Terrible engine though. Reliability is awful.
BMW and Peugeot, it's a strange partnership for sure
2:40 I have a 5 door GT
