      1) Minorities must have agency to separate themselves from white people at will
      2) White people cannot have any agency
I.e. they demand that white people abdicate autonomy.

I would not move to another country as an American and expect to go to school and have my own classroom with the English language because I felt I was losing my culture. Countries have a language to bring people together to be able to communicate. America’s language is English. We can practice all the cultures we want, but if we need to communicate, we need a unified language. That’s how you assimilate.

The reason I speak so many languages is because of living in so many other countries. Not only does it help you function in those countries, those skills are helpful in so many other areas of your life. It truly is a good thing to assimilate. If you want to preserve something it needs to be a choice, not forced by others who have decided you have to be whatever society you come from.

If the program is run like like french programs are here in Canada it should be absolutely fine. French immersion programs rarely operate out of separate schools. I did that program growing up. Half the kids or more didn't have a french background either. Up to grade 6 we'd have our french immersion class, and there'd be a few English classes right next to us, and we'd socialize with the other kids at lunch. Then from 7-12 we'd have half our classes with the students in the program, and the other half with everyone else. Mix the programs up into one school and you've little to worry about, the problem is if schools are only doing a specific program. Then you've got segregation and division.
As for learning English, kids are gonna learn to speak, read, and write English regardless. The immigrants who avoid speaking, and sometimes learning, English all immigrated as adults.
But yeah, as long as kids aren't sequestered away they're gonna learn English.

I'm twice as old as you're black guest. Probably twice as old as most of the guests here. The definition of racism never had anything to do with structural power and oppression that came up in the past 20 years. The definition of racism was one race disliking another race because they felt either that the other race was inferior or superior or they just don't like them for whatever reason. That's what racism means it means one race disliking a whole other race of people. That means it can go either direction. Racism doesn't just mean white man bad. Racism means anybody who hates another race. You can redefine it you can say that's not true All you want but I'm telling you the absolute 100% truth so is Tim.

too bad the overwhelming vast majority of the population, including most conservatives/Trump supporters, consider "racism" to be the worst thing of all time. hating someone, or some people, isn't a crime. no one has to like anyone. no one is obligated. what people can't do is commit crimes. but weaklings throw a fit when a White man wants to be around like-minded White people only. these ppl on both sides call us horrible names for being ethnocentric, but they applaud when anyone of any other race does it. both sides are mostly NPCs. still haven't figured out that the concept of "racism" exists for the sole purpose of being used as a weapon against White ppl specifically. multiple generations of White ppl throughout the decades have been told over and over that you have to be individuals. being ethnocentric is horrible. they have been stripped of their greatest natural defense mechanism that all people around the world are born with. all of the animals, too. they did this to us to make us weak as hell, which they accomplished, and now we're in the process of being destroyed. most of our countries, our culture, our history, our statues, all of it is currently being destroyed systematically and most White ppl are still oblivious to it.

They were virtual because of the lockdowns. But the segregated graduations were the default. You had to let them know if you wanted to be a part of the regular graduation instead. There were also segregated study areas (LGBT study area, black diaspora study area, etc) within the libraries. Racially segregated dorms... Schools have been promoting racial segregation for years now.
Most students don't go into college with those ideas. We get to college and learn "oh so this is how our authority figures are telling us things should be..." and so they go along with it. • @scurvydog20
      @scurvydog20 Před měsícem +2

Um freedom of association allows for segregation in the private sphere. If a group of people decide to join group1 that doesn't allow members of group2 that is segregation but the people in group1 have all agreed to associate with those rules in place and may leave the association of group1 and are not barred from interacting with group2 outside the restrictions they agreed to to be part of group1. Also freedom of association must include the right to not enter into an association. The first can be seen in for example people agreeing to put their child in a white, black, or chinese only private school. The second could be a chinese restaurant that only hires chinese people. Forced integration of the private sphere prevents segregation and freedom of association. Gov enforced laws regarding race may violate both but will definitionally violate freedom of association by either forcing or outlawing associations.
Please note I have not made a moral point only definitional one.

Honestly that isn't the worst reason in the world for segregation... if we had more males teaching males, we'd probably have males doing better in school. Same might follow for every grouping of people honestly. People feeling like the person teaching them is part of their order helps to make them more engaged, people teaching kids that they feel is part of their order likewise makes them more likely to be willing to sacrifice a little to see those kids succeed. Male performance has been dropping off a cliff since we stopped having all boy's schools and the boys started being taught almost entirely by women right up until college. Stuff like that might follow at every level of organization for society.
It's worth doing some experiments honestly.

He's not entirely wrong. The original definition of racism was “the systemic oppression of a racial group to the social, economic, and political advantage of another; specifically: white supremacy”. That was the definition used in the 1930s and America was certainly not alone in the practice, but we did actively profit from it.
But he is splitting hairs on what is now the ubiquitous and commonly understood definition of the word.

I don't think it's wise. We need to grow and learn together. I could see possibly in high school a white history class and a black history class maybe even Hispanic and Asian one too but all students should be welcome in any of them. We could learn about each other's heritage etc. even that I think is a slippery slope. We are Americans and should be taught American history. In full, the good, and the bad should be taught to every American child. We learn from our mistakes and we should always know the truth.

if people are still obsessing about race they're going the wrong direction
(if a peaceful society is the real goal). why not focus on values instead of race?
people who share VALUES (meaning priorities, and ideas about how to best run
the world) will have more to relate on (or argue about which isn't bad)
than people who happen to be the same color.
the issue of race is sooooo moot at this point.
(the world is turning into a multicultural multiracial multilingual melting pot
and already has all the way in the most developed nations).
race has so much less to do with anything society-related than people are pretending.
start thinking about what values you all share in common
(for instance, safe streets, useful education, a mentally healthy population,
nice public areas or services like transport and parks).
