you sir are correct. The mechanism that is supposed to allow for the door to shut and latch without you having to have the latch pressed down with your thumb..or raised with your hand on the inside..is positioned wrong. Good catch. I didnt notice that at first. Its obvious this isnt your first rodeo with these sorts of fittings. I think..just devils advocate..that the folks installing this latch assume the owner will do the customary thing of always depressing the latch or raising the latch when you shut the door. But..like the old saying goes "when you assume..you make an ASS out of U and Me.
@@bobbertbobby3975 I wish this was the case.. In 43 years as a blacksmith specializing in hardware, this setup is typical and is shown constantly as the correct installation method. I have customers who even after me telling them the Staple or bar keep is the resting place for the bar and sets the height for it hitting the striker/ramp some will still center the staple on the bar leaving it resting on the thumber to control the height of bar. I've seen so many bent and missing bars with staples/ bar keeper missing the metal middle section because of it.
@@matthewschubart3303 the bar rests on the staple vs only on the thumber when the door is opened. When you close the door the bar will then always be in the correct position and ideally will catch the keeper mid way.. this will allow for expansion and contraction of seasons and will always work for the life of the bar. the bars do wear out at the contact point.

this is a terrible install video. It does not account for wear. Once everything settles the bar will smack into the keeper and will bend the bar.
