Just like all of the other commentors - the installation video shows the strike plate being installed backwards, but it clearly demonstrates how the thumb-latch will fall out every time one uses it. The strike plate is in the correct position by the end of the video..... Nothing like "real-life" instructions

You might want to think about reshooting this video.

At about 1:28 the thumb latch was pulled out of the hole several inches. This is because it was mounted ABOVE the gate release. It should be installed BELOW it. At :47 in the bracket was mounted backwards. Smh

I saw this too, terrible instructions, they didn't even get it right.

What’s reassuring is the video remains unedited 3 years since the original comment.

Hello, thanks for the video. I got a question what prevents somebody from pulling out the thumb lever and taking it? Thanks.

Where can you add a lock to this?

I wish someone would make a REAL installation guide video for this.

I know what you mean, I too searched CZcams for a video that would make sense on how this is suppose to work.
Unfortunately for us we won’t find any such video. First of all in order for the thumb latch to work your gate can’t be thicker than 2”. even then the thumb latch will fall out the first time your gate closes with any force at all. If your gate is spring loaded it’s going to fall out .

So that means it doesn’t connect to anything and can fall out and get lost?

I added a split key ring through the hole like you use on keychain or to hold dog tags

I have this same latch except my fence is made of plastic not wood. Is the installation in plastic the same as for wood?
It seems the screws into hollow plastic will not work. What say you?

How do I stop the thumb latch from simply falling out??

You must weld it in desired position. Then use another gate to get in and out of your property.

@@richardfike8183 it's just that we shouldn't have to, I have my crew asking each other what the hell is with this latch and why it slides out, I came to CZcams for answers but apparently everyone else wants to know too

“Smartkey Security”? Nothing smart or secure about this product. I felt stupid for buying this.

The worst gate latch ever. Bought two, returning both. Doesn’t reach a 4x4 plus fence pickets without mangling my hard work.
