  • Ring Latch amzn.to/2f9xcGn
    Different Style amzn.to/2f9zapQ

You can pick this up at Home Depot like I did or you can find it online, but the price is usually higher online. It says 6" and I guess that means the length of the latch not the size of the ring. It was installed perfectly the first time and works great so I went and bought a few more for the other gates.

Thank you bought a latch like this and there were no instructions. I'm pretty sure I can fit it now and being a single mom good to learn new DIY stuff so not relying on asking anyone to help😁

2.18- To avoid bursting the wood out on the other side of the gate/door etc, drill using a small drill bit before using the larger drill bit. Same with brickwork/concrete etc. I hate to see a pipe coming out of a building with the face of the brick shattered. It looks terrible. (You can even use the larger drill bit from the other side once your pilot hole is in. Just go in an eighth or so to 'get it started'.)

Use a spade drill bit. Drill just enough till the spur slightly protrudes the other side, then drill through from the other side. Youll avoid splitting the wood.

So if you skip that holding bar, will the handle swing all the way up so it can be used with a dual swinging gate? The USA no longer makes those dual sided bolt latches.

Yup..I love it..it enables the user to access the gate from either side,also..on the inside, the homeowner can lock out the outer latch..much,much..better than the stupid, string and slam lock.

Nice looking latch. The one i have now is cheap looking, doesn't work great. I now have a new project to work on this weekend.
    Thanks for this video!

Try pilot holes next time. It works much better and you don't strip out the screws.

A hacksaw. You can get them very cheap. Around $7. I think even Walmart sells them.

As long as you covered the "tear-out" you don't need to waste time using a pilot drill and that BS like some of these newbies suggested. As for installing latch on steel fence as Zakria Zaki asked, just use drill bits that are fit for metal.
