  • How does Jeep’s flagship Gladiator ute fare when it comes up against Ford’s top-spec, rally-bred Ranger Raptor? 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The good ol’ ute has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a workhorse - and so has its role, particularly in Australia where dual-cabs are increasingly used as family chariots and for weekend play.
The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and Ford Ranger Raptor stand tall and proud as an excellent case in point - two $75,000-plus flagship utes with a very high specification and an incredible amount of hardware underneath.
In this video, we put these two top utes through their paces both on the road and off-road to determine which is the better bet.

I find it funny that the US finally has a diesel and Oz does not. I own a Gladiator Rubicon, I use it for overlanding. I have a roof top tent and a few other things. I love the truck, I traded my Ram Rebel for it. One of the best parts of the truck that nobody else has, you can take the doors and roof off, and I have. Only takes about 5-10 minutes for both. One thing I would recommend for the Gladiator, I would up size the tires to 315/70, this should give the little extra underside clearance you will need to keep from getting high centered.

Australia you should see the new diesel available soon in the Jeep Gladiator over there in the near future. Its was recently introduced here in the states and completely changes the game for the better. Vastly improved fuel economy and torque. @@loganlexow -friends in the US (Colorado) with Ranger Lariat FX4 over various driving conditions average around 21.5 US Imperial MPG which converted to L per 100km is approx. 13.1L per 100km or 7.6km per 1 litre of RON 95 (AKI 91 e10) which is pretty much decent enough for petrol based engine in a vehicle that really is way to heavy at 2.2 metric tons.
Sure the diesel versions (2.2, 2.0 and 3.2) are better overall in terms of fuel economy but for the North American market 21.5MPG (US Imperial) is decent when you then factor in fuel price is approx $2.35 per gallon (US Imperial which is 3.6L metric) , a full tank is 22gallolns which is 80L so price is $51.5 per tank, which explains why diesel is not in favour in the North American market.

Another friend has a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland, it's on transmission #2 with less than 130k on the odo, that one was replaced under extended warranty (he's really glad he got it). Buy Raptor for daily ride and some loads. Get Hilux and Triton for real offroad

Ranger raptor is made too pass dry roads with 100 km/h and thats all. When is wet , mudy that can damage transmission first, next is engine a out 120th km and your 3 years old RR is just a piece of junk.
