Work on a commercial farm and we have each of these model pickups !! Most are driven off road being sand and mud , and loaded with the max carrying capacity . So far the Toyota has been the best in terms of reliability and running costs !! The Raptor is only a game changer when it comes to overall performance, yet in the 6 months having it on the farm we've experienced more technical problems ie. electronics . The Amarok just feels too soft as a work horse , nothing really beats the Toyota reliability, we've got Hiluxs' on the farm with 300000 miles and 400000miles respectively without having any issues !! So yet to see how the Amarok and Raptor will be in the long run !!
6 months with the Ford Ranger Raptor here - not a single issue so far

yeah. I myself have a Toyota Hilux 2024 and a Ranger Raptor and i will, say, Toyota is better for durability, reliabilty. Ranger Raptor has broken down on me 2 times, Toyota zero times. So i would definitely recommend Toyota.
@@nevergonnagiveyouup8302 my raptor has been at ford for 4 weeks now. Powertrain fault. Likely something major from the noise it made and it wouldn't move. I have a loan car now so ford have been good but this shouldn't happen. It's a far cry from my comment above 😂

Nicely edited, I love this new dynamic.
This reminds me some Media testing back around 2006 where the Hilux would lose most testing especially by the more powerful Nissan Navara. Fast forward now, you see plenty of Hilux from that gen being used and abused in many farms.
Because we all know that the hilux are the best 👌.. 20 years later let's see which is still able to climb a rock 😂😂😂
@@MrBchott I got a 2005 Navara D40 2.5. Yes, we still climb rocks and it never gave a single issue to me. Best truck out there for sure
and the majority of the Navara are scrap because they're Crap and the headgasket go on the diesel.
@MrBchott You toyota dickriders are ridiculous! The only thing toyota is good at is making a commuter car. It's not a bad company, but they can't make a functional truck to save their lives. They might as well be a toyota camry with a truck bed lol
I live in a rural area in Germany with plenty of small farms around me. I have not seen a pick-up truck being used on a farm a single time.
Gonna have to say the Whistlin Diesel Toyota Hilux was the ultimate truck durability test.

Ex 2021 SR5 Cruiser owner here, and I traded for a Ranger raptor 3L (460hp here in New Zealand) Nearly had it for a whole year now and so far it is the best car I have owned. It’s used on high country farming, reliability has been great, and puts a smile on your face when you hit that pedal. From my experience I think the older 1980-2000s hiluxs are where they were there best, but now the fan boys are too caught up in the brands and afraid of taking ego hits. New hilux blew a turbo towing a Cam am X3, the newer hiluxs aren’t as good as what they say, I have mate who owns a couple mechanic shops and they have had heaps of newer model hiluxs coming in with problems…. I have fitted air bags to my Raptor which can tow 3500kgs now, so not being affected by anything. The fuel prices are just increased slightly but doesn’t matter if you can afford one.
adding airbags doesn't raise your GVM, you can't legally tow 3500kg's in a Raptor (yes I have a next gen Raptor). All you do is improve the drop in the suspension from the weight of the trailer and you ruin the ride quality and travel of the shocks. Also your NZ Raptor is NOT 460hp, it's 392hp (same as AUS). Other that that your comments are spot on.
Are you talking about the GR Sport when you say "newer" Hilux models? Or is this also for the SR5 Cruiser?

After 25 years the Toyota will be performing. Where else the other two will be in a garage or under some treee
That intro was just iconic 💥💥💥💥
the intro was so good props to editing team omg
On the road it’s not so much that the Raptor has coil springs but that they are rated to carry only 650kgs approx, rather than the commercial spec 1060kgs approx of the much stiffer others. The American specification leaf sprung Rangers and probably Amarok, if they decide to sell it there, will have 500 to 650kg rated springs, much softer than Australian and European models.
What you tend to ignore is the fuel consumption of the Raptor, which you may find to be around 15mpg compared to the other two doing double the mpg or even better with still more than adequate road performance. They also tow 3.5 tons while the Raptor does not. The others are the sensible choice, especially for business user while the Raptor is the rich man’s toy. The difference between men and boys is actually the size of their toys.
Well thats cool.
Silly choice to derate load capacity of the raptor, better to buy it as rated to make it tax efficient.. then mod it. To make it better.
@@j...bro.The difference between men and boys is how much time they have for hobbies.
@@j...bro.silly to buy a slower version and mod it to lose all guarantee. After that it’s a different story, while still a modded car is something different than a Stock more powerful one, and it’s not just the power.
none of them actually tow 3.5 tones. thats a nice lie and cheap marketing
I honestly think if you choose the Toyota over the VW and Ford, its not because of power, interior, technology etc. Its simply because of reliability.
The people that use these vehicles as a workhorse don't really care about technology, power, luxury. They care about reliability and durability. There's a reason why the Hilux is not only the best selling pickup in the world but also the most trusted.
The Raptor is not even a 1 ton truck which means it's not classified as a commercial vehicle which means you can't write the tax off.
Come to the Brazil and you will see most of the trucks with over 500k miles they are all from ford and chevrolet, i dont know what you are talking about
@@electrikoptik The best selling pick-up in the world is the Ford F-150 (it isn´t even the 2nd best) , and the best selling in europe is the Ranger. And the Raptor isn´t meant to be a commercial vehicle, if you want that and an excellent offroader, buy a Tremor or Wildtrak X.
@citaron, that's where your wrong. The best selling pickup in the world is still the Toyota Hilux. Ford is maybe the best seller for people that does no off roading and buys it for show. But the best seller is the Toyota Hilux because more businesses owns Toyota Hilux accris their fleet and most farmers owns Toyota Hilux, but Ford might be the best seller in America but not the rest of the world.
@@citaron You do realize that the F-150 is mainly sold in the US and Canada right? It's not a global product. The Hilux is sold in over 180 countries and it is the best selling mid-size pickup in the world.
Great vid.. Will you ever do a cheaper pickup test Mat? Like the Ssangyong, Isuzu, Nissan etc. I'm in the market for one so rather interested!
Graham appearing as the tellytubbies sun was the best thing I’ve seen on this channel
Matt you didnt mention the Hilux is the oldest of the three and will be refreshed next year.
So unless every manufacturer releases their comparable vehicles on the same day, every comparison test is flawed.
Very true, but It goes to show that toyota haven’t updated the hilux for so long because of how well it was performing in the long run, I believe that after the hilux gets refurbished it will be a long ways better than the ranger. The previous ranger didn’t stand a chance off road to the 10 year old hilux platform. The new hilux will once again be a design that lasts for long whilst the ranger has to update every 3 years to keep up.
Hilux still the best pick up, give those other 2 a few years and check how long those 10 speed gear boxes starts demanding attention.
They have already updated ten speed auto to increase life. Ford actually manufacture and sell about 1.5 million of these 10 speed automatics every year and most run to a very high mileage before any problem occurs. The Aisin-Warner six speed auto in the HiLux is also a good transmission and is also used in the Isuzu D-Max and Mazda pickups and was indeed used in an earlier form in six speed Audi Q7 vehicles.
I really like the new approach👍👌
th editing, commentary, filming, its all good. You are a pro.
the more plastic interior of the hilux seems an upside on a pickup, its a workers vehicle and that plastic is way easier to clean
All of them are easy to clean leather/plastic interiors although rubber mats are optional. The deathly black with piano black bits of the Toyota actually shows the dirt and dust worse than the others.
Awesome video! My personal favorite would be the hilux. Great truck overall and my dad had owned one for a while!

Very, very entertaining video, Matt. I really enjoy your approach to car "testing".
But, of course, almost useless too, if one really needs to decide for their choice in buying a car. As it's mentioned, one really needs to decide what they want, their use, their compromises... Complicated business.
That seems a pretty thorough test. I’d not be able to get into any of them. I use a brace on my left leg.
In Australia the Raptor R is 392hp and with the same engine too. Europe only has 284hp for some reason...😮
It’s the stricter new emission standards in Europe. The engine needs to be detuned to meet them.
It's really 292hp? Cause I was a bit confused, in South Africa it has 292KW, which is around 450hp
Yes, but engine and internals are nearly identical so a simple tune will get you north of 400+. I highly doubt anyone will drive 284hp raptor for longer than a week.

The simplicity in the hilux gives it better chance to last longer and cheaper fixes.
Toyota is a 4 pot so the V6 will last longer and tow with ease. The Toyota engine will have a shorter lifespan. Serious people who tow caravans or big boats or heavyload to 3,500kg tow with V6.
