I had a stroke... of genius and purchased a 1988 Volvo 240/244 DL sedan. It was abandoned and left in the woods after the previous owner past away and his son pulled the car apart and left it.
Between a faulty fuel pressure relay and a huge pile of disintegrating vacuum lines replace with silicone - it starts! Then after installing a new stock exhaust it runs better than ever. Now I can finally hear the vacuum leak coming from the climate control.

I don't understand why these 240's have to be found so damaged, so abused and neglected. Maybe it's because they withstand the torture of idiots and live on. These cars seem to end up as 'rescue' cars, like rescue pets. They are just fantastic cars due to having minimal electrics and maximum mechanical durability. The designs are pure artistry.
Preach buddy, as soon as I saw it parked under a tree I wanted it. I think it’s the slow decline - starts running a lil rough, then hard to start when cold, then starts shifting weird, then needs new tires but they already bought a new car so it gets parked outside under a tree but it’s still the back-up car. 5 years later their newer car is the backup and when they go to start this one, it’s battery is dead and they ehhhhh and sell it. Seen it time and time again sadly - And it took so little to get it moving again.
This engine is one of the best engines ever built in history of engines.
I love my 240s. Sadly, I loaned one of mine out (the nicer one) and it got crashed, but I hope to be able to afford to fix it one day. The other one, which is currently my only runninc road-worthy car is a 92 244 white with the blue cloth interior. It is still nice, but the paint is a bit poor and there are some small dings; the interior is really nice though. That car has 329,xxx miles on it currently, and I still drive it around 100 miles every day. It has scared me a few times, but never left me stranded. Parts are cheap and easy to find, and there is a great community surrounding these cars should you have questions. Overall, I would say that if you want a classic iconic car that you can daily drive and never worry about breaking the bank with it, these are the best cars you can get.
I’m not at all surprised by this being a “boring” revival. These brick-era Volvos are unkillable machines.
I bought a clean 940 Turbo Wagon several years ago out of curiosity and it has been such a great car that I picked up a cheap 940 beater wagon with 300,000 miles on it as a daily work car. If looks like hell, but nearly everything works and it drives like new. 4,000 trouble free miles so far in that old car.
It’s easy to become a fan of these.
I love them - I started my old Volvo career with a 740 but always had a soft spot for 240s.

@@MatthewFinlay by the way brother, that "sewing machine" tick is normal in redblocks something to do with the way the pistons are assembled. So no worries about that!

Oh ya! But first I''m gonna get the interior put back together. I just found a black interior'd car on FB marketplace being parted out so I'm gonna get as many parts as I can off of it. I just fixed the vacuum leak from behind the dash too. Look out for that video, it's the next one to come out on the channel!

How come you didn't stick the probe in the magic box to see if there were any secret codes?
First generation jet-tronic don’t have a diagnostic function! The only way I’ve found to test stuff is to either know the correct resistances and prove everything or simply swap parts.

It is a redblock. If it has something semi-flammable to run on, and something semi-slippery in the crankcase, it will run.
