    A friend of mine has a 240 that suddenly stopped running and wouldn't start up again. I towed her home and the next day I found this video on CZcams and sent it to her. She messaged me with a video of her starting the car. It was the fuse under the bonnet! Thanx JP, great job!

    Reach up under that dash on driver's side, locate the blue box that looks about the same shape and size as the one fuel relay, pull it out and throw it in the glove box. That ding, ding, ding is SO annoying!!!! One of the first things I pull out of all my 240 is that pesky ear sore! Otherwise, GREAT video and love your collection! Thanks for taking the time to make a wonderful video!

    This video just saved me! Thank you very much. My 240 wouldn't start - it's been very rainy - no fuel pump whine/priming on ignition. It was looking like a failing fuel pump relay, but none of the ones I've got fixed it. The fuse wasn't gone, but the connections were all badly corroded.

    Thank you for this great video . This video is by far , the best video I've seen , regarding the nonstart issue . You cover alot of great information, in a small period of time . And your $900 is nice too. I have a very nice , 1990 Volvo 240DL Sedan ; gold color , with 103,000 original miles . I gave $1200 for it and I enjoy it very much.

    Great video! You just have to love these old volvos. I just picked up a 92 one owner wagon, and have the same problem with it. My other 240 has the fuse under the hood, but darn if I can find it's location in the 92 wagon.

  • @mathuetax

    The minute I read the title I knew just what was wrong, that darned fuse on the drivers' side of the engine compartment next to the battery.
    ('Course it's just as likely the relay in the passenger footwell since water from the leaking windshield seal gets into it.)
    I dunno how many late-era 240's I've gotten running from just these two items.

  • @pogdogfuzz

    Thank you! Just got my first 240 (also a black one) and am having the same problem. I already replaced the fuel relay and it didn't fix the problem and my 4th fuse has no power so I'm gonna try what you did in the video and hopefully it works!🤞

    Want to thank you for this video I took my 87 240 dl to a mechanic and they said it was the gas pump
    And it was replaced. But two days later the same happened it wouldn’t start. I went through all your tests and yes it was the fuse. It wasn’t burnt out but the fuse holder was all corroded inside. So I replaced it with the exact parts you mentioned in your video and what do you know it started with hesitation😅. Many thanks for your great videos !!

    I've got a no start, no fuel pump actuation on my 89 245. The jump wire from number 4 fuse to number 6 fuse caused the fuel pumps to kick on. Same thing resulted when I ran a jump wire between those two nodes you had mentioned in the fuel relay connector, fuel pump kicked on. Car will start with each of these methods. So is there a way to diagnose a bad ECM other than replacing the ECM and reprogramming it?

    Guidance on my 88 240 wagon would be appreciated. I changed the water pump (only 2 days of not driving it) ran well before. Car will not start. I cannot hear the fuel pump, but did crack the fuel rail and gasoline came out. I suspect the injectors are not working. I looked for the 30a main fuel pump fuse but it does not have one. I am familiar with that fuse because my 89 wagon had it very close to that black plastic connector box drivers side fender, as shown in your video. Car does get spark. Help with this no start problem please, and thank you.

    • @jpvolvo4592
      @jpvolvo4592  Před 3 lety +1

      There can still be some fuel in the rail but that main fuse that I fixed in this video also powers the injectors if I’m not mistaken. Perhaps someone relocated the fuse or got rid of it all together? Also check the fuel pump relay as they commonly go and cause a no start due to lack of fuel.

      1) Rust is a huge problem. 2) Engine wiring harness was inferior and updated in 1989, before 1989 it tends to deteriorate and fall apart causing wires to short out and stall the car. 3) The Pink ECU is problematic and will need to be updated before it fails.
