you cracked me up with the censoring of the keyhole investigation 🤣
Thanks for the info I can tell you are the Volvo guy, I have owned 544, 122, 142, 145, 240, 245, 240s are the best ever made 2.7 million were built and they are still on the roads with hi miles, keep on rolling
I don’t know about THE guy but definitely A guy lol. These cars are awesome. Welcome to the channel!
Dude I love this car so much! Can’t beat going back to basics with a carb! Very excited to see more on this!
I totaly understand that the 240 has grown on you both! I’am like you more a estate/wagon guy, but i dig it! And I’am still amazed how good this 240 is! And again all the best for 2024!
Found this channel a week ago. Honestly one of the most interesting channels I’ve found in a while, and caters to my love of Volvos and rotaries. Excited to see what’s to come!
Thank you for choosing to stick around! I do wish we had more rotary content available. They've gotten extremely expensive over the last couple years.
@@DeanofMachines not a problem, as I’m mainly a Volvo guy anyway. Your channel should be way bigger. It’s honestly inspired me to want a 122 even more than I already did. Maybe I’ll make videos as well when I eventually stumble upon one, but for now I just mess with my P2Rs. Best of luck on the 240 and all other projects!
@@Ihavetoomanyvolvos This year we will be devoting more time to the channel and will be deciding if this is something feasible. Hopefully, that answer is yes!
That quad headlight arrangement looks cool. These cars are great.
I've split between the E codes and the 4 squares. Why must we have choices?!
Thanks to the mystery of algorythm, I stumbled upon your channel. 20 years ago I bought a 245 diesel with 570000km. My kids loved the third seat row and the sound. It was slow, but it was so much fun to drive. Currently I am trying to fix my 23 year old V70 ( front axle, engine mount and transmission ). When you love to bath your hands in oil and invest your money on rusty crap, you need someone who realy loves and support you. I gues, you are a lucky guy.
Greetings from Germany
Welcome to the channel!! Many many years ago, I worked at a company that would buy wrecked, newer(at the time) Volvos and part them out. I spent a lot of time disassembling the latest 90s to mid 2000s Volvos.
To this day, I have yet to own one.
I do like the 5cylinders though!!
I definitely lucked out with my lady!
The undercarriage on that Volvo is really good, you never se an old Volvo in Sweden so clean that not being restored. Keep up the good work, greetings from Sweden..
I brought 244GL Demo in 1981 with B-21F enginem the egomic designed was outstanding and safe car and safe my life from crash. My problem was the maintiance parts was 3 times expensive and very shot live. Everythings was OEM made in Sweden and no aftermarket except body parts for body and muffer shock and strut wheel from Taiwan.
Unfortunately, this is the way things are. It's easy to manufacture stuff where it's cheap because companies need to be a profitable business. Unfortunately for us, we love 40 year old cars that are only popular in some circles.
Thanks for watching!
The 240 GL is a very nice project car. The body looks pretty good... Those early eighties 240 GL, GLT and Turbo models are the desired ones... But, like you said, the best, the prettiest and the funest Volvo on your channel is with no hesitation the 122S Amazon.
Seeing more of your Volvo stuff in 2024 would be great !!! Love to watch it !!
I just found you! So happy to see all those old Volvos. My first was a 90 740 Turbo. Then a 86 740 GLE that I still have. Then a 98 V70 (need space I'm a drummer), and now a 2001 V70. I'd be dead in the water without Voluparts in Atlanta. I'm in Kennesaw. Enjoying your channel!
Welcome to the channel!!! You are probably familiar with some of the ATL Volvo folks I know!
Cut the plastic nozzle closer to the thread connection. The outlet hole will be bigger. Less resistance to flow.
btw. I almost made a comment about having too many Volvos. But in truth I am jealous. I wish I could acquire as many Volvos as you have. You're having too much fun.
We definitely have too many. LOL
We do try to have fun around here. I will try cutting the nozzle bigger. I want to pressure wash the car and see if water enters. If it does, round two begins!!
Hi from the UK 👋
Just found your channel and instantly hit the subscribe button. Been driving 240s for the last 25yr and still have a 240 as my daily driver. Awesome cars. It’s great to find a You tuber working on these things as they deserve to be kept on the road. Looking forward to more 240 shenanigans and Happy New Year from across the pond 🎉👍
Hey there Steve! Welcome to the channel! I love these little cars to no end and will always have atleast one!
Good for you buddy
wait and see what they do as well .. its very entertaining .. some of the shit he gets him self into is hilarious .. but one of the best on here
@@desmondmayhew6466 thank you! If Im not having fun then I don’t want to do it

Thanks for this video....watching it from France. Happy new year too !
I can’t believe I did not know about this channel!! It’s GOLD I see bug things coming brotha
Thank you for the vote of confidence!!! I'm having fun sharing my hobby with the world.
Happy New Year to you and your family Dean! You had me LOL at you driving that thing up your street. I also seemed to see a neighbor watching you doing your video. He seemed like he was moving his car around be we all know he was watching. Haha. Thanks for a fun year!
Loving the channel Dean, your content is awesome and your very genuine, my Dad loves Volvos he’s 88 now, he couldn’t always afford them, the 240 was an icon of his, all the best for 2024 my friend
I appreciate the kind words! I try to keep it laid back and fun around here.
Happy to see your channel gaining some real traction. Awesome project too.
Very well done getting the 240 running. Liked the creativity with just installing a carburetor to get it going. Wasn't aware these model years used biodegradable wiring. Could explain why my '86 740 has had wires randomly become brittle. I just assumed it was caused by chemicals like WD-40. Perhaps I should look into if a new wiring harness is available. On my '58 Amazon, the wiring is in better condition. The insulation does not crumble and fall off. Regardless, I wish you a happy new year and looking forward to the continuation of the various projects.
Happy New Year Togst!!
The 740s are another model with the same wiring issues. It’s pretty terrible! The 67 Amazon, it was in the woods 35 years and the wiring is much nicer!!
Hey, new year, new money pits am i rite?! Love to see you got another brick, dean. Excited to see you fix up your swed sleds and hope for good fortune or fun times for you, your wife, and your fleet. To be honest, i too am about start one or two projects of my own so its fun to watch. Much love from The Milkman from Missouri!
They seem to be multiplying around here!! Thanks for the love. Cheers!
I heard about you from a friend so I decided to check out and I’m glad I did because I absolutely love Volvo content especially older Volvos! I myself have two 240’s.
Welcome to the channel! Its cool to hear that people are sharing this content with their friends.
I do watch a few 'Will it run' type stuff so naturally the algorithm found your channel and one we do love in Yorkshire England 🇬🇧 is a good Volvo... everyone I know has a story about one or had a family member who had one etc... keep it the good work and love the way your wife contributes to the channel, dream work makes the dream work!!
We are just s couple of gear heads enjoying some old cars! Thats for stopping by and leaving a nice comment!
That's my favorite frontend with the quad US headlights and the silver grill with the badge offset
A new Volvo channel, loving this. Great content keep it up! Instant follow!
Welcome to the party! We've been around for a while though it seems like recently we've gained some steam.
Just found your channel! I drive a red 240 GL from 1988. Love your content, keep it up. Happy new year from the Netherlands!
The body of this care looks amazing.
Its pretty good for how we found it. The car does need a full repaint
So nice!👌 I'm a Volvo-fan and member of Volvo140-club in Sweden🇸🇪😀 Have a nice day to you from Sweden👍👍👍👍
Dean, you're easily the funniest dude i follow in youtube 😂
And of course you have grown to like the car, and it staying 🤣🤣🤣
You might have a impulsive volvo collecting problem mate 😂😂😂
Love your stuff, keep doing this, thumbs up!!!
Happy new year!
Het Dean! Thank you for this fantastic episode! I've been waiting for it all christmas holidays😂. So much fun! Pure 240 shenanigans! I was working on my 240 today too. What a great way to end the year😂. Happy new year to you guys! So good to see your channel growing!🎉❤
You and me both my friend! This car took a few different directions which pushed the upload schedule a little bit. Thankfully I think we have a solid direction!
hello from norway. as a fellow volvo fan i love ur channel ❤ i dont currently have any old volvos. just som v70's but im hoping to get an older one again 2/7/9 series :)
and happy new year 🍻🫡
Hello my friend!! Thank you for finding your way to the channel! These old cars are some of my most favored!!
Carb turbo! Volvo used to sell a kit for that through the R-Sport catalog. Keep up the great work, easily my favorite volvo channel on CZcams
Not meant to be a power house but it should be interesting non the less!! Thank you for your support
Excellent job Dean nice well done ,
i don't blame you for not selling it , is a beautiful car . All the old volvos are
240 is legend! I drive 2008 Fusion, but some day I hope to buy something old and charming to restore it like you in your videos.
I can definitely understand wanting a little cruiser! Best bet is to find one and make it mechanically sound, then just drive it!!
From one short guy to another, you almost need a step ladder to ingress and egress your tow pig. Great video.
I originally thought it was painted black above the side trim and silver below. But no! It's silver all over. Very pretty.
My -93 is almost to perfect. Looking for troubles. Like the noisy fan ('hay barn fan'). Here in Sweden I've understand that a rather common mod is to transplant a 940 electrical piece. That is my mission now. Sorry to see all those wiring issues on your latest. That is a problem, due to age, that we can't control. Keep on insulating!
The 940 wiring might be a good option! There is some truth there. Welcome to the channel!
Hello from West Australia I quite like old Volvo's father drove many, but now I drive old mercedes.. it's worth saving
I love volvos and i have a volvo 245 88. It´s fun to follow your work
Well, welcome to the channel!! Its fun to share my work with the world!
Like this straight to point no dragging out all the best for 24
When Im editing, if I watch the final cut and struggle to pay attention… i cut out the slow parts
Very cool ! Cant wait for the build ! I was curious if the 88 has the starter dongle on the fire wall ?? Typically a plug you could put a spade connector into, sits kinda behind the intake manifold! Thanks for keeping a rare bird on the road! Happy 2024!
Make thr hole on the nozzle for the urethane bigger and you won't struggle to get it out. Also leaving it in direct sunlight before use helps. Or leave tube sealed and put in a bucket of hot water.
you, sir, have what we in Finland would call a "Vocational school guy's wet dream" on your hands, or as we say in Finnish, "Amisjonnen märkä uni"
absolute legend of a machine for it to just start up from a little work.
@@davethehusky9409 *next car… we still have a couple more vids to go. My videos are about 3 weeks behind “today”. Between buying, fixing editing, these things take time
The Dirt preserved the Luscious paint 🙂 !!!! i love the car 🙂
It did an OK job. The water on the paint makes it look much better than in real life.
Love the channel! Just as a note. That rear window is going to leak. You have to cut that tube of caulk bigger and lay a bead that seems like it would almost to too much. If you watch a few windshield install videos you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.
Fun fact
In 1959, the Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin developed the modern three-point seat belt. Although the design was patented, the company decided the patent was to be left open, making it available to all vehicle manufacturers to use for free
That was just something I learned about seat belts a while ago I thought that was pretty cool
I found my 1978 242 GT in a very similar spot except mine is completely rotten, its been a slow process but I finally have space to work on it.
i love old volvos and watching this video has convinced me not to even attempt to do what you do great channel just subscribed
So I’m halfway through the video where you get the car running and it sounds great! Edit: I finished the video glad to join the Dean of Machines crew!
@@DeanofMachinesWhy does this Volvo sound like a modded race truck? When you revved it it didn’t really sound like a stock Volvo.
I love my volvo v70 2.4 called vera ❤ so I watch anything volvo great job mate keep up thr content
Nice video! And nice car too. You should have put the kitt in warm water first.
Excellent pacing and editing on this one fam, Hooked all the way through. I'm exceptionally happy with it. Also, do you want me to send you some not pants on head jerry can spouts?
Thanks bud!
You know, i think I would miss the struggle and disastrous mess if you sent that my way lol
Great video 👍✌🇵🇷
Glad you liked it! A little different than my norm but I want to be transparent about how I run this channel.
Heating the window urethane in a 200 degree toaster oven for 30-45 minutes helps A LOT. Also, expect a new tool you need to arrive when ai get a chance to send it.
I already got yelled at for putting the new rubber exhaust hangers in the microwave... New tools you say? Bring it on!!
@@DeanofMachines Put it in the toaster oven before you puncture the tube and there is no smell. Also use a sharpened 1/2” bolt to puncture it.
The B20 of the Amazon and 140's start all the time.
They can sit for half a year and I can still start my Amazon up (when gas has been pumped to the carb) when freezing.... I even used it to 'jump start' a Nissan Leaf with a dead 12V once 😂
Love the video Dean!! The hydration jar hahahahahahaha
So true!! Drinking cokito and other local beverages here in the island!! Happy new year!!
I subscribe it, am so happy to see your channel. Am buying a Volvo soon.
Welcome to the party! If you couldn’t tell, we love our Volvos around here
Just found your channel and this video 😊👌🏻 As a Swede 🇸🇪 it's wonderful to see you putting this beauty on the road again! 💪🏻 Do you know why it has the "CZ" sticker? This would suggest it was originally sold in Czechia, Europe.
Welcome to the channel! Sometimes people in the USA put that version of the white sticker, just to show their heritage. I do not know the actual reason this car has the sticker.
@@DeanofMachines Ok, didn't know that 😊👌🏻 Great job with the cars. You got yourself a new follower 👌🏻
@@ParFektion Thank you! Happy to have you here. I try to stay active in the comments and across this platform all together.
Only turbo go under the rearaxel stock, but aftermarket can go either way apparently 😊, just been doing turbo on my 940.. there's shortvideos on it
I really want a Volvo in my life now!!!
@@DeanofMachines I can see why.....if I were to have 1, my government would charge me a yearly tax of between £300 and £400 for the pleasure of driving it on the road
Was looking at a V50 the other day and was like....hmmmmm🤔
Ångrar verkligen inte ja följde denna kanal! Vet ni de bästa me svenska bilar? Att svensken helt plötsligt kan dyka up på denna kanal som jag!
All kärlek från Sverige! ❤️🇸🇪
I have not watched the video yet, but I am going to predict that it WILL run. it is a red block Volvo... unless it has had something insanely bad done to it, it will run.
@@DeanofMachinesI certainly did and look forward to seeing more. Thank you sir.
It's "The immortal brick". I'd dare say most people were surprised it DIDN'T run on the first try
It didn't run due to no fuel/fuel pumps and a destroyed gas tank. Not to mention the dreaded biodegradable wiring.
@@DeanofMachines such a shame plastic has become even more common since.
@@wilhelmtheconquerer6214 Yeah, these cars are built very well, very solid.
Interesting trim on the Doors and under the window you changed, never seen that here.
I believe the stainless window moldings are pretty rare. I don't know if it was 83/84 GL trim level only option. Honestly, I don't ever recall seeing it anywhere.
The in tank pump in my 940 failed. Took ages for me to figure it out. In fact I was not sure what the problem was. I just decided to start at the beginning and go through the whole system. So I was lucky that it was the in tank pump because it was the first random thing I fixed. I can't describe how good it felt when the engine fired after about 5 whole minutes of cranking.
We had an issue with the red turbo wagon where I chased my tail for months. Ecu power wire would cut out when cranking. But then also the inline pump bit the bullet, then the fpr was leaking internally then the used inline pump I installed failed so it got a brand new pump under the car THEN the pump died in my daily, the silver wagon!! So the new pump from the red wagon went into the silver wagon and the red wagon got a single in tank walbro 255
So, you've become an expert on Volvo fuel pumps. lol. That is necessary if you're going to run as many 240s as you have. Happy New Year.@@DeanofMachines
@@mayflowerlash11 expert? Nah. I did happen to have a fuel pump harness in the other car that ate a fuel pump LOL
You americans are so lucky this quad version is available so cheaply in the USA
Were many of the cars in that lot from the Czech Republic? (CZ sticker) I'm curious how it ended up in your neck of the woods. Edit: Watching the video and learning. Now I'm curious why it has a CZ sticker.
The 122 Amazon is gonna be beautiful when finnished..
@@DeanofMachines I think it looks cool as hell now! Of course, adding a few bits and bobs under the stealth exterior would be cooler than hell...

My friend, I think you are the only person I've ever connected with that said good things about the 2.8 V6. 😂😂 I'm happy to hear you had a great experience with it lol.
25:30 Most common phrase in the neighbourhood: What's he up to now? :p
😂😂😂 I am VERY thankful for my neighbors and the relationship I have with them. They put up with a lot.
If I missed I apologize what’s the wheel set up you’re running? Great vid
Hi Jake! We our most recent video goes through the steel wheels and others. The wheels are Ford Maverick(2022 2023) steel wheels.
Those big steelies look rad. Are they FWD wheels with spacers or something?
The are fwd with spacers. Im still working out specifics and will have a video out with all details.
19:47 isn't that where the brake booster pipe goes? My '89 Saab 900 with carb has that kind place in the intake manifold for the brake booster line to go. Would it be same on that 240?
You are correct! The problem I had is nothing would fit the threads in the hole. I ended up drilling and taping to a larger pipe thread
I don't know why CZcams has waited so long to introduce us. Instantly subscribed. Volvo heaven. Happy New Year to you and your sweet wife.
