Its crazy but it is already time to change the oil in the gmc denali. I also wanted to delete the dod at the same time. In this video I cover how to change the oil in your gmc yukon denali 6.2L V8. This process will be the same in a 5.3L V8 Chevy tahoe, chevy silverado, gmc sierra and gmc yukon. I also show you how to use hp tuners to delete or remove dod or displacement on demand. I am not fan of the active fuel management in the gm line up. Removing the active fuel management or dod generally will prolong the life of the lifters and engine. I think the dod delete should be one of the first things you do on a Tahoe or Denali. Both the oil change and the dod delete are easy to do and hopefully this video helps you complete these projects.

I've had a 2015 Chevy Suburban (5.3 L) for a few years....and it has a lot of miles on it...I put 8 1/2 quarts in mine and because of the mileage I switched to 5w 30....keep up the vids...can't wait to see you add the catch can....that is an important add on
Thank you. Yeah I hope to get a catch can on asap
I plugged in a range technologies DOD delete over 2 years ago in my 2011 5.3 Silverado. Zero issues and 8 cylinders all the time.
They are nice units
That don't eliminate the issue though
It helps prolong it
@@TWAMotorsports I own a 2015 Silverado 5.3 dod with 240k miles and have had zero issues. I also change the oil every 2,000 to 2,500 miles. CHANGE THE OIL, PEOPLE! Avoid problems. And don't forget to change that tranny fluid every 30k or less miles.
Some do that others don't. I would like to see comparison with oil change data
I have a 2014 Silverado 5.3L V8 so far so good no issues at all at 98,000 miles. Long road trips/ off roading / towing. The 5.3 takes 8.5 quarts
Nice
I have a 16 Denali. I put a catch can like the day after taking delivery. It catches about an ounce every few thousand miles in the summer. In the winter it is insane how much water plus about the same amount of oil as the summer it catches... I tow pretty heavy (larger camper) in the summer with it and it is amazing the towing power.
I need to get mine installed asap
Did DOD Delete on my 2007 Tahoe. Texas Speed LS7 parts, low lift cam and beehive springs, some dyno tuning and Long tube headers. 2 day job in the garage. Also used ARP head bolts as well.
That's the right way to do it.
How much do you spend for everything?
I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 5.3L with 115,000 miles. Always babied and used Mobil1 oil 0w20 and I’m on my second motor now.
That sucks. Hopefully this one will go longer
another option to delete AFM or DOD is the pulsar LT "tuner". Plugs in under the hood, has no battery draw, and allows access to the OBD2 port. The device has other options too, such as throttle response, tire size adjustment, speed limiter adjustment, and TPMS adjustment. I have one in my truck and it works great.
That is another good option
The best youtuber!
Thank you
My 07 got the complete delete with a summit racing delete kit new lifters new push rods new valley cover new cam shaft I'm glad I don't got to worry about that afm trash
Ow20 that's a super thin oil. My 2013 GMC sierra 5.3 LS gets 5w30 what it's called for from the factory. BTW my 2013 gmc sierra has 220k original miles and still runs perfect with the DOD still working flawlessly. Absolutely zero issues. 👍🏻 GM quality baby. 💯
If you keep your oil changed regularly, you shouldn’t have any problems. A lot of people don’t, which is a big part of their problems. Those lifters should last a long time, unless one was a factory defect.
@@jb1765 amen to that brotha. I always change my oil and make sure it's right on the fill mark at all times 💯
Sometimes they last like that.
I have always wondered that
Great video man love that color
Thank you
Great vid as always 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you sir
2 years We bought or 2017 Tahoe with 114k miles on it. We put 22k miles on it. I was towing a few different cargo trailers three times a month one of those was over a grade and through 100 miles of turns in the mountains. Using tow mode. Just like everyone has reported. We had the failure of the torque converter, that breaks apart and since the trans pump is right behind the converter, all the metal gets pumped through the tranny. Destroyed. Cost me 7k at the dealer. Got a warranty now though. But while at the dealer, I had them tell me what the think about the ticking noise coming from the drivers side engine. They call me back saying it’s definitely the sound of the dreaded lifter failure. Since it’s such a long process to replace the lifters and they know that if a lifter goes bad then obviously you are changing the cam too. They said 11k for a new engine. Complete garbage. I bought 3k in parts and have it apart in my garage right now. Just got to the lifter. It’s the non DOD lifter in cylinder 3. Scanner said misfiring # 3 so that checks out. But it wasn’t even a dod lifter. These engines are junk and definitely are not for the even average towing. If you have one of these, sell it while you can and buy a Toyota
2012 Denali here. Unfortunately, I was too late on deactivating the AFM and ended up with a seized lifter. I had plans, since buying it, to manually delete the AFM system just hadn’t put the funds together yet. Well, the 6.2L forced my hand. Had a semi local GM performance shop delete all AFM parts, install LS3 parts and custom tune for daily driving. Runs like a champ now! 💪
Yeah wish you had the option to buy without
@@TWAMotorsports For real! That’s why the mid/mid-late 00’s are still popular because that was just before the DOD/AFM boom.
@@thomasjtsi I love my 2001 Yukon Xl with the 5.3 it doesn't have the dod mess
I agree
Yeah that is a plus
I wish that GM would let this be a setting to which you can have the option to disable it in the DIC or something or even a eco button.
I agree with that
Love my MPVI2, I started having issues with my MPVI1 on newer vehicles for some reason. I'm sure it got dropped one to many times. Can't wait to start Tuning on my Gen2 LT1 T/A once my 24x system is installed. If the damn kit ever comes off back order for crying out loud.
And yeah, the newer stuff is ridiculously expensive credit wise. Friends wonder why I charge so much even though the only thing I charge them for are the credits for the license. And no matter how many times I explain it to them they don't comprehend it. I just flat tell them I'm not making a cent off them. I really don't tune enough on other peoples stuff that would require me to buy anything other then a specific vehicle license key. Got the LT1 out of the car and on the stand. Top of my strut nuts on one side are rusted to shit so I think I'm going to buy a new set as well. Clutch also has some severe hot spots, surprised it never slipped but Ill be buying a new clutch as well. Maybe Spec Stg 3+ not sure yet.
Yeah. Lots of tuners still use the cable but have heard they have worked most of the bugs out.
Was wondering if you have any options here in San Antonio Texas where to take my 2015 Sierra to get ECM deleted by HP turners?
Should be some reputable shops that can do it.
I have an 18 Escalade ESV still under warranty till 2025. Do you recommend the plug in DoD for a daily driver? It’s city driven an rarely sees 60 mph. Like the HP tuners route but the truck goes to the caddy dealership for everything since it’s under warranty
Yes that would be your best option to keep warranty
Have you encountered problems with canceling DOD with programming?
Excellent
Thank you
My 2015 silverado with a 5.3l uses 8qts 0-20w not 6.5 or 7 like you stated 6.2 doesn't have any more oil capacity
Thanks for that information
Do you know of a way to alter the DOD programming other than delete it? I don't mind DOD in most situations, but it kicks in at too low of a vehicle speed, in my opinion. I want DOD to kick in at speeds greater than 30 mph except when de-accelerating.
I think you do have options but I have never done it.
Ok, so I traded in my 22 Silverado and bought an 18 Sierra. One reason was the money savings! One other reason was the 22 (from what I was told) had 17 different engine cylinder/transmission modes. I towed a 1978 Thunderbird from California to Northeastern Tennessee with that truck and with the louder exhaust it was easy to tell when the cylinders were cutting out.
I’m curious about my 18 with 38000 miles and whether or not to deactivate all of this. A week ago I noticed what I thought was a torque converter chatter. I could feel (and see on the tach) the tc clutching and releasing. I bought a 100,000 no time limit warranty on this truck and was ready to drop it at the dealer when my mechanic came by the house. He said that he didn’t believe it was the tc at all. Sure enough a quick scan showed misfire. So he replaced all the plugs and two coil packs.
It’s much better but one more coil needs replaced. He is trying to talk me into disabling the DOD/AFM and canceling my warranty. I’m a 60 year old and would like this to be my last truck.
Maybe you can shed some light?
If you bought a 17 chances are it is an aftermarket warranty. They are as affected as factory ones. You could try a range dod disabler. Plugs in and unplug before serving
@@TWAMotorsports thank you. That’s what I was thinking too.
I haven’t seen anyone say “oh this happened but was I was towing seven days weekly” or
“I drive my vehicle hard. My old man neighbor is much more gentle and has know issues.”
My point being that this seems more like a not if but rather when this failure will happen.
I f you have any other thoughts, they are much appreciated. I do know the owner’s the dealer where I bought this, and they won’t let me sink!

Looking at a 15 escalade i guess i should get that range tech afm delete
I would
I drive my 2013 Chevy Tahoe LTZ once a week with that technology delete plug-in no problem starting vehicle, they probably has a weak battery?
Yeah if the battery was weak it would be an issue
Have you ever considered a fumoto valve? I always put them on my cars after I stripped the threads on an oil pan. Great videos as always man 👍
I have never used them
If you're stripping threads on a Oil Pan you're going to fast and need to slow down.
Those Fumoto Valves are cool. But in retrospect. No. Less parts less problems. More parts more problems.
@@Rob_Nasty it was a 2003 ford Taurus with 200k miles, I changed the oil every 4k miles. Something was going to give after that long. Once I put the valve, I never looked back. Like you said more parts, more problems.
I agree
I want to install electric fans on my Silverado where or which hp tuner will u recommend to buy thanks
Pro suite like listed in description in my opinion
love it , delete DOD and add a catch can , right on TWA
Thank you
*bro there is a special edition GMC yukon called the graphite edition. let me know what u think of them*
Yeah other than the wheels I like it.
Are you doing the trans fluid flush to prevent the shudder using the updated Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP trans fluid
It was already done actually
Do you have to use HP Tuners App to do the DOD delete? I only see people using Hp Tuners online. Are there other tuners on the market that can do the DOD delete? Also, are there older tuners that will do same thing without having to buy credits?
I used hp tuners here
Can't wait for you to drop it
Next week!
I always punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain a bit this way oil doesn’t run all over filter sides.
Probably a good idea
I thought I was the only one who does that!
I saw those Texas editions
Not being used. They are junk
Looks like this will not work on 2019+ 6.2 with the 10 speed Yukon Denali unfortunately. So either you have to get the more expensive Pulsar or go custom tuning...
I think hp tuners has access now
Why on my oil cap says use 10w30 if it wasn't supposed to be used
You can use whatever you'd like I guess
Are those some 20" texas editions I see in the back at 0:57???? 🤔
Yes. In terrible shape
Thank you for the video. Debating a FM Delete. I have an 08 with a 5.3L, it runs strong. Just noticing I have been getting more condensation in the fill cap, and a little when I drained the oil. I have been mainly driving very short trips lately, under 5 miles a day. Would a catch can help with this, or something else to consider ? Thanks
From what I understand short trips dont allow the motor to stay warm long enough to remove water from the oil.
It should help with that.
This is also true
The method you used, is there a tattle tale if you reinstall the previous file in case the vehicle is still covered under warranty and you have a failure? Thanks.
Yes they have a flash counter and will know.
Might want to skip the k&n filter next time and opt for a wix filter.
Didn't have it in stock or that is generally what I use.
I'm looking to buy a 2007-2014 Tahoe should any dealership be able to do this for me?
I would look of Facebook marketplace
So how much seafoam do you add to oil? You do it with every oil change? Why do you choose seafoam over Lucas?
I generally add 4oz seafoam 100 miles before an oil change and an entire can to gas tank.
Unfortunately even with the delete on the ecu the dod lifters will still fail/ collapse. Switching those with a new cam will make it bullet proof. (Along with oil pump/ oil plugs/ new valley cover)
Maybe one day. For now this will prolong it as they are not bleeding off all the time
I see u put in led interior lights but my door lights wouldn't go in which ones u used
These are all what came in it
5.3 and the 6.2 both take 8qts per dealer. Other people say less but per GM it’s 8
Thank you for that info
Forsure. If it’s an 8 speed keep an eye out to for torque converter shudder pretty common on 8speeds there’s a updated fluid you can use that helps is supposedly
Mine actually has the new fluid
The 5.3 has always and still does take 6 quarts.
@@mikeschmidt4800 if I put 6 quarts in my 2021 Chevy, it shows below full mark. I think they increased the oil pan capacity after 2015.
If you have a certified pre owned vehicle or still have factory warranty use dexos gen2 approved oil or they will avoid your warranty.
No warranty here lol
I've been using Mobil 1 for the better part of 35 years now. I was using K&N Filters a few years back but I had an unfortunate incident. Where the nut was welded on the case they must have burned through because it leaked from the nut. Thankfully I noticed it when my wife drove away and for some reason she stopped and had forgotten something. I lost about a quart of oil. I did reach out to K&N and they sent me a check for the filter. But after that it's only been Mobil 1 or Wix filters for me.
Also, on my cars that use canister filters, I have a FilterMag on it as well.
Mobil 1 is a name you pay for. Wal-mart oil is just as good. Watch Scotty Kilmer or Sweet Project cars.
@@Gearhead-en8dz yes, I'm sure Walmart oil would protect my 1980 Skylark engine with no coolant for 3 miles. Keep dreaming.
@@ChrisLincolnHomes Watch Scotty Kilmer and Sweet Project Cars. Check the SAE NUMBERS and Stop paying for branding. All the information is at your finger tips.
@@Gearhead-en8dz again, I don't need to. I've been using it for 30 plus years. What have you used for 30 plus years?
@@ChrisLincolnHomes Usually what the dealership puts in, because I always trade up. But in my 71 C10 350 small block, I use Supertech & now that my warranty is up in my 2015 6.2l double cab Z71 I use Supertech. I have done my research. You are paying for a name, when the product is the same. Additives, proprietary blends, etc. All BS. Change your oil and take care of your vehicle. Simple.
hello very good video - I have question , how much are the credits each ?
50 each
I see that you don't turn off the DTCs associated with the AFM when you did the delete. Wouldn't you want to do that?
You don't need to if you turn off that way
@@TWAMotorsports I've been turning them off, I now know that it's unnecessary. Thank you.
Once you turn off dod. Computer no longer looks for it.
Can you do full transmission flush video?
Maybe in the future
What does the DEXOS mean on the oil fill cap?
You can buy oil that says dexos on it..like mobile 1 dexos etc
@@BeardsandCars good to know.....by it being on the oil fill cap is that type of oil necessary
@@emend93 pick the brand you want basically and make sure it says dexos..is what that's referring

Have you encountered problems with canceling DOD with programming?
No
What type of wheels are those

I would not use a 0 weight. they do that to improve fuel efficiently and other engine metrics. longevity is more important 5w-30
I may switch next time.
If you live in a cold climate, you may want to rethink going to a heavier weight.
I don't
why aren't you using 0W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil, ??
I did use 0w-20 synthetic
Tricking the ecu will cause that problem
I see trucks all the time come in with 150 even 200 thousand miles and never had a lifter problem
Ok
What year was that Yukon?
2017
What lift is that?
Bendpak. I made a video on it in my house garage
how much does a dod delete run
Depends on shop. Or hp tuners is around 600
Where are you located? I’d like to pay you to delete mine, if possible? I’m in DC just purchased a 2020 LS Tahoe 12k miles only 40k I’m one happy gal!
I'm in Missouri. I generally don't do it for others. Any local tuner could do it for you though
the link to hp tuners is not available .. fyi
Older video
Clearances in the engine are the same, the only reason the manufacturers are going to such a thin viscosity oil is to meet epa and fuel mileage regulations.
Thank you for that information. Its like water.
Nice video. From experience, there is no point waiting to check oil level. Start for 30 seconds and wait 10 minutes just like every other vehicle. I don’t imagine anywhere you would go to have this done for you will do anything else, so it’s a good thing waiting makes no difference. IMHO you are tightening your oil filter too much. 1/2 to 3/4 turn only. If you overdo it and leave that filter on there for more then 6 months it is more prone to leaking if it’s too tight. Kind of counterintuitive but this is a fact.
Thank you for that information
Curious why you wanted to do the DOD disable?
To keep the lifters from bleeding off an Hopefully make them last longer
I like using penzoil ultra platinum and mobile 1 filter.
I hear good things about that too
@@TWAMotorsports I don't like import oils like mobile1 because they add 30% recycled oils to new ones

How much is each credit?
$49
I'm kinda hopeful that an engine builder will build a 5.3 or a 6.2 that will bolt right into these trucks and its built WITHOUT the GDI system. I know Toyota builds GDI engines that also uses port injection to keep the valves clean.
Could always add custom port injection I suppose
I use amsoil in all my vehicles
Overpriced.

Why delete the DOD?
I think it helps the lifters last longer. My opinion
I prefer using wesson oil myself
Everyone likes something different
@@TWAMotorsports the vegetable blend is great for high milage
These engines arent designed for them and the tolerances are the same. I'm running 10w-30 in my 2021 escalade already. Gets hot here in Texas and the Corvette and the trucks although have different engines and engine codes actually have the same bearing clearances and the Corvette uses 0w-40. I'm running 10w-30 in my escalade a month ago. Put 1900 miles in a half year since Oct on the factory fill and changed it with a fram ultra as well. Stop using that overly thin oil. If I haven't had a check engine light I highly highly doubt you'll ever get it. These engines arent as tight as you believe. A 0w-20 at 60f is around 3-4x thicker than 20w-50 at 212f. Engine wear occurs on startup not warm up. Engine is dry at startup for a few seconds. Once it's lubed up the engine is nice and quiet until it gets hot. Hot oil is extremely thin because of fuel economy. Makes the engine unhealthily rattly. Ford switched their 5.0 in 2021 to 5w-30 because the 20 weight was causing wear especially in the phasers already in new current gen expeditions and few years old f150's
Food for thought. Thank you for that information
I’m surprised you don’t use an ac delco filter 🤔
Don't like the plastic construction
@@TWAMotorsports ever since they went to the "E" core design they suck. The old pre "E" Delco filters were good.
Exactly
Good to know. That’s what I typically run on my silverado
Full synthetic 0w20 requirement
I also match my oil and oil filter, I use Royal Purple 0w20 and Royal Purple oil filter and change my oil every 5000 miles, I have a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
👍
I generally use wix
That's not dexos approved. You need to get valvoline high mileage 0w20 dexos. And you need some intake valve cleaner and spray it into the throttle body while someone holds the gas pedal to 2,000 rpm.
I was gonna argue with you then I zoomed in on the oil jugs and your right, it doesn't have the dexos rating on it. The mobile one I always use does.
I will be doing some intake cleaner at some point
Crap. Didn't even notice. Good catch
0w-40 is a good alternative for these trucks.
I may look into that in the future
0w-40 not to thick for dod?
If I switch it would be to 5w30
@@TWAMotorsports 5w30 is a great oil for the LS/LT engines. Apparently GM decided to switch to 0w-40 on the c7 corvette to offer customers who do track their car an extra level of protection.
The viscosity has absolutely no effect on the dod.
I have always used 5w30 in ls stuff
Deleting dod won’t help anything … people having issues with dod is because lack of maintenance (oil changes) also I feel like transmission fluid should be changed every 30k or so I flushed my transmission at 60k it was black color .. can’t believe Chevy suggested flushing fluid at 90k
👍
2015 5.3 are 8 quarts put a range delete and a catch can on. Toyota will be next truck.
My friend has a fairly new tundra. The gas mileage is horrendous, even without pulling his bass boat. He claims it gets worse than what’s advertised on the sticker. He also said the ride is rough compared to his Silverado. They have a reliable history, but he hates to even drive due to the gas mileage.
I agree with all but the Toyota lol
I never buy a truck for gas mileage i buy a truck to use as a truck. I keep my vehicles for a minimum of ten years the Chevy is paid for so i will do what is necessary to keep it going they ain’t cheap. My other vehicle is a 2000 trans am still runs like a clock. Hate car payments.
Catch cans are a waste of money. Run some Sea foam or MMO twice a month.
Seafoam doesn't work for direct injection engines unless you spray in the intake track.
Lower it😍
Next week
Royal purple oil!!!!!
I have used that in the past

The worst thing ever is the DOD system it's just to damage ur engine
It does suck
Just trash that GM the only GM I drive is a 350 TBI
I will ride it out
The ONLY way to rectify the engine is to do a built head/pistons etc. Half the cylinders are weak because the same 4 are shut down for low power, econ mode which is a total waste but GM keot doing it to bow to epa, now on gen 5 of tjos rubbish useless tech. 50+ yrs.
Not doing that
