HP Tuners DOD Also Known As AFM Disable In PCM

  • In this video I use HPtuners to deactivate the GM Displacement On Demand also known as Active Fuel Management.
    When you go to read the vehicle, only read the engine. This will allow the use of only 2 credits by doing this.
    This needs to be done after the DOD cheat repair I have shown many of you it also needs to be done when removing the DOD.
    If you only need to do this on one vehicle I recommend finding a local speed shop that can do this for you or using LT1swap.com . Don't forget to write the tune once the DOD is disabled.
    I have the cheapest option below so check this link out • Pulling Your GM Truck ...
    If you need my custom made parts
    Check out my new website
    www.crazedperformancerepair.com/
    HP Tuners with 3 credits 2 is the most you will need. Seems amazon at time of this link didn't have much for options so see if you can find 2 credit version to save money.

    Picked up the tool from your shop yesterday. Popped it free today with minimal effort. I believe it is because of Obama. When he imposed more strict CAFE regulations, GM's pushrod V8s were not up to snuff on the new emissions regulations and they had to come up with a way to quickly get their muscle cars to pass. Ford was prepared for this with their modern DOHC engines and GM sadly was not.

    Last month I gained intimate knowledge of this afm nightmare on my Dad’s 2012 Escalade with the 6.2L with ~130Kmi. He started it one day and the mystery noise of an afm collapsed intake lifter #6 reared it’s heel. We were able to free it up by tapping it through the oil feed in the lifter valley. I had fun sourcing the 5.3 lifter valley afm gasket(nobody lists the gasket for the 6.2l escalade 😠) and replacing the old one. Dad wants to keep afm, but i’d tune it out like you show here.

      I am not sure why anyone would want to keep the system active but if you do, you must address all oil pressure issues. Depending on many factors this might involve a higher than factory volume pump.

      @@grad0n just realized I never mentioned if the lifter has failed already your only choice is to release and shut the system off or replace the lifter. Then of course the rest of the conversation still applies. So then the screen is not the source of your issue. You might have a slightly worn out engine. Oil pressure is always why these fail. Loose VLOM bolts causing bad gasket, oil sump o-ring, slightly worn bearings, leaky lifters, the screen is plugged, something made the system activate with less then 27psi at the lifter that failed.

    I took your advice and sent my ecm to lt1 swap to turn of afm/dod. I reinstalled ecm, charged battery, started it and no cel👍🏼
    I then drove my 2012 Avalanche LTZ into the sierras, switched through the 2hi, Auto, 4hi, 4lo to see how it performed in the snow.
    No problems there. Drove it back home, round trip of roughly 70 miles or so. After stopping for gas the truck went into 4lo without moving the rotary switch. Would not come out, service 4wd light came on and it’s all wonky now. Switch position shows random gears whenever I restart. And code C3098-5A shows up on my xtool A30M scan tool. Would the ecm mod have anything to do with this situation. Or is it sheer coincidence?

    I just got a 2009 silverado 2500hd crew cab 4x4 6.0l "work truck". I think it's had a DOD/AFM tune done to it already. I don't see have both aft/rear O2 sensors installed and I get no errors with my obd2 reader and my android phone using torque pro app. I read somewhere I can put my gear shifter in "M" and manually press buttons to select how many gears to use and at same time this "M" mode disables dod/after but I don't know how to changes this as my model of truck is the work truck and don't have the volume up and down buttons. When I have the gear selector in "D" I always see a "1" on the right side of the "M". It don't change. Ok now the real question. Does the hp tuner perm program the ecm or can I reset ecm so it loads all factory settings? The guy never said he had a tune done to it so there is no original backup file before any alterations if there were alterations. Nice video btw

      Basically, the components are still in the engine, doing this HPtuner method just turns them off in the computer. If you want absolutely no chance of the DOD/AFM system harming your engine then you should remove the physical components and replace them with non-DOD parts. This is relatively easy to do, but takes knowledge, time, tools, and patience to do correctly. Most DOD failures happen during the transition from v8 to v4 (or vise versa), so turning them off greatly reduces the chance of failures happening.

    You don’t have to spend 3 credits on that. Just when you begin to download select just pcm and trans. Then will only cost 2 credits.

      @@CrazedPerformanceRepair i just did it to mine after i the cold startup lifter tick got much worse one day.
      I already had it unlocked via hp tuners to firm up the shifting in the 6 speed...
      Googled the issue and instant hit for the dod issue.
      From my first transmission edit, hp tuners says my vehicle only needs 2 credits.
      I believe that's the trick here.
      From my reading, the third credit is an extra thing that gives you more options should you wish to go boosted.
      Just exclude the third module when doing the read.
      If the dod option is missing, then you know it's in the extra module.

    This was a great video, and I have a question for you. I have a 2012 Silverado, 5.3 4x4 and I just put in new LED turn signals bulbs and they hyper flash. Their is no relay for it and is controlled by the truck computer. Do you know how to and where you adjust this with HP tuners. Thanks again for the good videos.

    • @coreybair9426
      @coreybair9426 Před 2 lety

      It's a resistance thing. You need to go to Amazon and buy a 50w 6ohm resistor for each bulb. You wire one side to the blinker wire and the other to the ground.

    Would there be any problems if I disabled dod in the ECM but left the OEM hardware in the engine? As in I've got a low tick on startup that stops after a minute or so but no other problems... Yet also can that programmer turn on remote start. I put the remote start fobs in and can see in the ECM when the start button is pressed but I need to get factory remote start turned on.

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  Před 5 lety

      As long as the VLOM doesn't cause any issues it's fine to disable DOD in the tune. In fact I recommend it. As for the remote start part of things I would have to do some digging (start with google) I'm not sure I never tried it. Perhaps contact hptuners and ask them. I would think the body module would need a flash more than anything and I don't believe hptuners does much in that department.

      Yes but I suggest you watch czcams.com/video/pP7I5tbXsfw/video.html for your misfire to look into what lifter issue you may have. Cylinder 1&7 are AFM/DOD so you may still have a failure. Also if all you want to do is turn off the system I suggest lt1swap.com he is much cheaper at only $50

    Hey man hopefully you can guide me to the right path I have a L77 with cylinder eight misfire no code yet I was able to look at the misfiring data and see it was cylinder eight, engine running rough on lower RPM swapped coils new spark plugs new wires even swap injector compression is good. is it possible that a lifter could be weak causing it to misfire and still have good compression on the gauge while cranking? I could hear valve noise as well

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  Před 4 lety

      Cylinder 8 is not a DOD cylinder but you might have a wiped out cam lobe. Pull the valve cover and compare cylinder 8 rocker movement to the other cylinders.

    • @deerhunter8533
      @deerhunter8533 Před rokem

      No, you would have low compression with a weak lifter or worn out lobe. Your problem is probably electrical, wiring, injector or pcm

      @woll3Y Před 5 lety

      I did this a couple weeks ago (after using your patented CPR lifter punch rod to open the collapsed lifter, thank you very much). HP Tuner credits are $50 each and you look up make&model to see how many credits are needed to unlock and reprogram a single VIN. For the 2013 Yukon this was 2 credits. It then took one additional credit for "the file", not sure what this was about but after boofing up another $50 I could then write to the truck. It was made clear that I now have UNLIMITED access to reprogram this truck as many times and for as long as I want. For another 10 credits I would be able to upgrade and write to any 2013 Suburban or Yukon XL.
